A horned sea cucumber named after a Norse trickster god is one of dozens of newly identified creatures from a deep-sea canyon off Argentina's coast. Scientists identified 57 new marine species and five new genera from the Mar del Plata Submarine Canyon during a two-week Species Discovery Workshop, according to a statement from the Schmidt Ocean Institute released Thursday, Oct. 1. The workshop, held in Buenos Aires, was led by the Nippon Foundation-Nekton Ocean Census in partnership with the institute. It brought together 20 taxonomists and early-career researchers from across Latin America and Europe.
