Earlier this year, Lucky Daye released the album ALOUD!, featuring a collaboration with fellow R&B great Leon Thomas called “Fly U Out.” When he listens to the song now, Daye feels like a “proud dad,” given all the hard work that he and his collaborators put in. Daye recently stopped by Genius to explain the songs’s lyrics, which outline one way to ease the pain of a long-distance relationship.

00:00What this song means to me now is a baby being born.
00:02You're in the studio, you have this idea, it's like a little peanut.
00:06When everybody get involved, it's like they the nutrients and then you throw it out there
00:09and then the baby born.
00:10So for me, it's kind of like I'm just a proud dad.
00:20I was with my guy, Business Boy.
00:22We pulled together like eight instrumentalists and Leon Thomas.
00:27He's my friend, been working with him for like eight years before all the music stuff.
00:31So it was just natural for us to work, be in the studio, and just cook up.
00:55You so far away, I can't touch you.
00:58It's like Christmas Eve right now and tomorrow is Christmas, all I got to do is get the flight.
01:02It's simple.
01:11You know it's easy for a female to think that you don't like her after she's seen you some pictures
01:15and then you like, I ain't with you right now.
01:17So it's like we're getting cold feet because the distance is putting a wedge.
01:21But it's like, let's just close the distance.
01:23The texts ain't enough, the pictures, the talking and the waiting is making it worse.
01:27So don't even think twice, we already there.
01:29Baby take off, hurry up, need your attention.
01:33I be sending your ticket, watching the sun coming up.
01:37Ain't got to mention, you won't get what you missing one time.
01:43Before you think twice, we'll be high in the sky.
01:48Not only do I know that you feeling like me, but I want to let you know and make it
01:52clear
01:52that I am actually feeling, probably more than you, you're messing with my mind.
01:58It's desperation, but not in a bad way.
02:01It's like, damn, I really like you.
02:26I know if you sending me them pictures, what we doing man, what we doing?
02:33I'm sending you mine too, so you know the why.
02:35It's just being direct.
02:37More guys need to be direct.
02:38Just say, I'll fly you out.
02:42Don't say nothing else.
02:55The art of flying someone out would simply be have enough money, have a place for y'all to go.
03:01Don't buy the ticket if you're not ready.
03:04You know if she don't want to ride an economy, don't get the 32B.
03:07Keep the consistency, whatever you feel in the pictures, whatever you feel in the videos,
03:12keep it up.
03:12Don't stop just because you bought the flight and you feel like you got it.
03:15That's what most dudes do.
03:16If it's real, you're going to close the deal.
03:20My favorite part of Leon verse is, I know you heard about me, but you ain't mine.
03:24And that's because sometimes, just because you sending pictures to me,
03:28don't mean you ain't got no man.
03:30In some situations, you know, you got to include them too.
03:33That's the green light.
03:33You could play my song if you got a little spuggy on the side,
03:36and you got another spuggy on the side, and you just won't link up.
