00:00We live in a time that we're the most closest we've ever been.
00:03Every single day we're on TikTok and we're like, so we're all just living the same life
00:06at this point.
00:07And I feel like reflecting that in the music is the best way for me to just communicate.
00:11You know what I mean?
00:12I might not make that TikTok.
00:13You know what I mean?
00:14But I'm going to make a song that has that, you know what I mean?
00:16That line that resonates and we're like, okay, we're the same, you know what I mean?
00:20I went to Spain to see one of my friends who actually produced on the record.
00:31His name's Harry.
00:32Harry Westlake.
00:33I went to the beach for a while.
00:34He was on the guitar and as I was laying there, I was just thinking about loads of different
00:37things and the chorus of Miami came about, you know?
00:39When the song was done, I didn't think to have anyone else on it.
00:43And then my A&R, AB, he was like, yo, I feel like we should send this to Leon.
00:46And I was like, yo, let's do it.
00:49Me and Leon would keep in touch online.
00:51But we hadn't met.
00:52We sent over the record and after that I was flying around and going different places and
00:57whatnot.
00:58And it wasn't until I got to Dubai, I got the verse back and it was incredible.
01:02It was definitely meant to be.
01:11It's so funny because if my social media don't tell you how I am, my music will.
01:15I've got a song called Coffee and it's talking about not being able to read signs.
01:19It reminds me of me liking girls shooting their shots.
01:21And in Miami, it's a different approach.
01:23It's like, she's kind of shy with it, but I like it.
01:25You know what I mean?
01:26I'm intrigued.
01:27It's kind of like the duality of how I be sometimes.
01:28When you're getting to know someone or when you want to, you know, take something further
01:39very quickly, there's like too much room for assumption if there's no friendship.
01:42You know what I mean?
01:43And that's where the, you know, the overthinking starts and dah, dah, dah.
01:45But with your friend, you kind of just know what your friend's like, you know, and what
01:48they're doing and how they do it and why they do it.
01:50You know what I mean?
01:51So you give them a bit of grace.
01:52You know what I mean?
01:53Where there's no, there's no room for that.
01:54These days when things are just moving like this, it's like, yeah, I'm going to cut you
01:57off and I'm going to cut you off.
01:58That's why I think it's important to take your time with, you know, getting to know people.
02:01The chorus is actually taken from an old song of mine, Womanizer 2.
02:18So it's the outro of that.
02:19It was really like a melody that I had and then I just further developed it in this record.
02:24There's no rules in this and I just felt like it was needed for this song.
02:31You want to heal, you got to feel quicker.
02:35In the project, The Summer That Saved Me, which this song is the introduction to, it's
02:40really about like unlearning bad habits, learning new habits, you know what I mean?
02:45Just going through life, growing.
02:46And I feel like during the summer, a lot of the time we kind of spend it like drinking
02:50or just, you know, like just out of our minds sometimes, you know what I mean?
02:54And it's to kind of run away from something.
02:56By the end of it, we come back to it and we still have to deal with it.
02:58For the first summer, I had to kind of like cut down on certain things like drinking and
03:02whatnot just to protect my voice anyway.
03:04And in that, I kind of had to find myself just feeling things, like experiencing things
03:08and letting those feelings, just sitting with those feelings and letting them go back.
03:13I felt like the song had to have like a little, you know, therapy session for, you know, us.
03:28We had a private party, you and your girls in my apartment.
03:34See that one person on your IG that you're like, you know what, I like this, but we might
03:38never see each other.
03:39I'ma just let you be.
03:40I'ma not disturb you.
03:41Let me let you do your thing.
03:43So in that line, I'm kind of just setting the scene and letting it be known that, yeah,
03:46do you know what, I actually know you from IG.
03:49It just makes sense.
03:50It's like everyone can look at each other in the club or just be like, yeah, like I felt that before.
03:58So the line in the beginning of the song where it was like, you bless the worst days, purpose
04:05what you bring.
04:06You couldn't get there until the relationship actually progressed.
04:11This wasn't just a quick situation.
04:13This is something that grew up at the time.
04:15We stayed friends in Miami till we made love in Argentina.
04:18In order for it to get to that stage, loads of things happened in the middle, do you know
04:22what I mean?
04:23I found solace in this.
04:24I found peace in this.
04:25Even when I'm moving around, there's been a lot of stuff going on.
04:28This person actually brought me a bit of, you know, peace, you know, a relationship
04:31going from A to B.
04:34I go by the name of Odile.
04:36I grew up in London, Nigeria.
04:39Both my parents Nigerian.
04:41Everything Nigerian.
04:47I got the books, it's Nigerian.
