SCP-1150 are sentient, human-like consciousnesses ("passengers") that share physical bodies with willing human hosts. When the host sleeps, the entity takes control of the body for 5 to 16 hours, acting with a distinct personality. SCP-1150 can transfer between hosts through skin contact, surviving even the death or cremation of its host by migrating to anyone who touches its remains.

00:00Have you been feeling oddly... tired lately?
00:03If you have, please don't panic.
00:05The laws of probability dictate that there's likely an extremely rational explanation.
00:11Maybe you've got sleep apnea.
00:13Maybe your bed and pillow combination isn't quite the right match for you.
00:17At worst, you've been dealing with insomnia lately.
00:19Don't we all drink a little too much coffee?
00:22And you did promise yourself that you'd stop going on your phone in bed.
00:27But that doesn't matter. Not really.
00:30If you're feeling tired, then one of some of those things are probably the reason.
00:34Unless, well, you haven't been experiencing any strange happenings that you can't quite explain, have you?
00:42Like, say, bruises on your body that you can't remember getting.
00:46Or getting emails or text messages from people or businesses you've never met or visited.
00:51Maybe it's almost like, every night, you're being possessed by a whole different consciousness that lives inside your head.
01:00Maybe one that has a business making and selling boutique soap,
01:04while privately running a series of underground bare-knuckle boxing rings that's planning on turning into a domestic terror organization
01:10over time.
01:11But that'd be ridiculous, wouldn't it?
01:14You'd never get fight clubbed.
01:15And if you did, surely you'd at least realize that it was happening, wouldn't you?
01:22After all, you'd really need to agree to something like that.
01:25Unless you did agree, not so long ago, and you just didn't realize that was what you were doing at
01:32the time.
01:33Because if that's the case, when I tell you about SCP-1150,
01:37a lot of strange questions you've been having lately are about to get some even stranger answers.
01:44In the truest sense, SCP-1150, also known as the Passengers,
01:48are kind of like a roommate that you keep in your head.
01:52They're free-floating, transferable consciousnesses that move through people by direct contact.
01:57And they can take over your body whenever you sleep.
02:01What these Passengers do when they take over your body at night varies,
02:04apparently with the specific personality of the Passenger in question,
02:09because they're every bit as individuated as any human consciousness.
02:12In one strange case, we even found that a Passenger was unsubscribing their host from SCP-Explained at night,
02:19probably afraid that the host would one day discover this exact video and want the Passenger out of their heads.
02:25If you're not subscribed to SCP-Explained right now, that's probably why.
02:29So I recommend you subscribe immediately.
02:32And also turn on notifications so you never miss another video.
02:36In a positive turn for the Foundation,
02:38the SCP-1150 beings have consistently proven themselves to be extremely cooperative with Foundation staff.
02:45It's a boon for attempts to understand their motivations,
02:49and just what these beings are truly capable of.
02:52Agent Adrian Barton sat down with Jonas Hubbard,
02:55the first of the documented SCP-1150 infectees.
02:58He was also the de facto treasurer of the Kismet Doorway cult,
03:03a doomsday cult raided by the FBI,
03:06which was actually how the Foundation even discovered the strange phenomenon of the Passenger's in the first place.
03:12When Agent Barton mentioned that Hubbard's Passenger had expressed a willingness to answer Foundation questions,
03:18the Passenger replied,
03:19Within reason, yes.
03:21And the interview began in earnest.
03:23It immediately went into existential territory when Agent Barton asked,
03:28Are you Jonas Hubbard?
03:29The Passenger in Jonas' body replied,
03:32In a sense, I'm sharing his body.
03:34I assure you he's quite agreeable with our arrangement.
03:37When Agent Barton pressed the Passenger to explain those statements, he said,
03:41Sure, Jonas has allowed me to use his body.
03:44He thinks I'm a manifestation of his God and is happy to let me do my work.
03:49Are you a God?
03:50The Passenger actually laughed.
03:52Of course not.
03:54As far as I know, David made him up.
03:56But he may be remembering from before.
03:59Agent Barton took fastidious notes.
04:01David Thoreau?
04:02As in, the leader of the Kismet Doorway group?
04:05How are you involved with that group?
04:07All of the higher-ups are like me.
04:09We ride your bodies, if you let us.
04:12I was fourth in command out of the six of us.
04:14Barton tried to hide his concern.
04:16And all six of you were, uh, body snatchers?
04:20He seemed to sneer at the crude term.
04:23We call ourselves passengers.
04:25We switch bodies from time to time.
04:28David said we could live like kings, and I believed him.
04:31It's clear to me now that he's quite insane.
04:34I disavow his ridiculous cult.
04:36You mentioned that David may have remembered from before.
04:39Before what?
04:41The Passenger shrugged, as though all of this was just run-of-the-mill information.
04:45Well, before we were awakened.
04:47That was in 1911, when the Englishman Davies unearthed our bones in Persopolis.
04:53You can't remember anything from before that?
04:55No.
04:56Well, maybe one thing.
04:59Darkness.
04:59And before that, wailing and screaming, and before that, a great consuming fire.
05:04I remember pain, too.
05:06But that could be a dream.
05:08David says that we were worshipped like gods, then.
05:11Utter insanity.
05:12Now we're getting somewhere.
05:13Agent Barton thought, trying not to let his curiosity register too overtly on his face.
05:18May I change course of it?
05:20How did you get your current body?
05:23Barton asked.
05:24Jonas gave himself to me just over a year ago.
05:26Well, before that, I was Annie Page, who was wife to David at that time.
05:30I was tired of that, so I transferred to Jonas.
05:34Transferred?
05:35How?
05:35We touch.
05:36Usually, we press our heads together in prayer.
05:39This way, it goes more smoothly.
05:41I pour myself from one human vessel to the next, like water from one bowl to another.
05:45Then, I see with Jonas' eyes, speak with his mouth, love with his genitals.
05:50And when I am not using them, he is himself.
05:53So, you see that I have not hurt anybody.
05:57It wasn't often that Agent Barton thought, little too much info there, buddy, during a
06:02professional interview.
06:03But this was one of those rare times.
06:05He gave a polite nod, and, not knowing anything better to say, said, that's all for now.
06:11Thank you for your time, Mr. Hubbard.
06:13As he rose to his feet, Hubbard's passenger twitched in his chair and raised a hand.
06:17Agent Barton, one last thing.
06:20May I be transferred to a larger cell until this trial?
06:23This area is inadequate for my needs.
06:26Barton forced a smile.
06:27I'll see what I can do.
06:29At this stage, the researchers were cautiously optimistic, which is one of the nicer entries
06:34in a Foundation employee's personal lexicon.
06:37If you took the SCP-1150 anomalies at their word, the body hopping and cohabitation were
06:42all consensual.
06:44They didn't have any kind of uniform, malicious plan.
06:47But if you're a Foundation researcher, you know better than to ever take an anomaly at
06:52their word.
06:53If they did that, Ferdinand the Cannibal likely would have been able to devour half the site
06:57at Site-19 by this point.
07:00But what the Foundation can generally trust is the scientific method.
07:04So, to develop a more objective sense of what they were looking for here, Dr. Bimston,
07:09the lead researcher on the case, planned a series of experiments into SCP-1150.
07:15Perhaps this way, they could either corroborate what the other passengers had told them, or
07:20find out the truth and discover weaknesses that they could exploit for containment or neutralization.
07:26In the first experiment, one of the passengers was already occupying the body of a D-Class, designated
07:32D-1905.
07:34The purpose of this experiment was to determine the extent to which the passenger could alter
07:38and control a heavily disabled body, or whether transfer would even properly initiate.
07:44To this end, they brought in D-2002, an almost completely healthy Hispanic male, 27 years of
07:50age.
07:51I say almost, because the one key caveat is that a medication-induced seizure left D-2002
07:57with heavy reticular damage that left him in a seemingly irrevocable coma.
08:02The Foundation saw fit to use his body in an experiment as a result of this, because hey,
08:08it's not like he was using it.
08:09In the experiment, D-1905 was brought into direct skin-to-skin contact with D-2002 for
08:16approximately 65 seconds.
08:19Sensors were positioned around the room to detect any ambient phenomena relating to the
08:23consciousness transfer.
08:24The sensors detected an incredibly low-frequency hum, and then D-2002, now inhabited by the passenger
08:32previously inside D-1905, got up and began acting normally.
08:37It was as though the body had never even been in a coma.
08:41When an EEG test was conducted on D-2002, while in a passenger-activated state, the waveform
08:47seemed completely normal.
08:49It was something that would be impossible for someone who'd been in a coma for as long as
08:53D-2002.
08:55When a 10-hour period had elapsed, D-2002's consciousness, or lack thereof, took back over,
09:01and he returned to a comatose state.
09:03A note left by Dr. Bimston on this experiment log read,
09:06Computer analysis of the radio noise reveals a high degree of organization and pattering.
09:12The significance, or meaning, of these patterns has yet to be determined.
09:16But dealing with a coma is one thing.
09:18Dealing with death itself was quite another.
09:21That was the next barrier that Dr. Bimston was hoping to test for SCP-1150.
09:26While D-2002 was in a comatose state, the researchers euthanized him with a fatal dose of sodium pentoarbital.
09:33When D-2002 entered cardiac arrest, the passenger suddenly took over his body, and he began desperately
09:40trying to escape his restraints.
09:41He moved with such force that he actually snapped one of D-2002's arms.
09:46However, despite the valiant effort, D-2002's cardiac arrest did not end.
09:51The passenger using the body became increasingly lethargic until collapsing, at which point the
09:56body experienced what one might term biological death.
09:59But this wasn't the end of the experiment.
10:02In fact, Dr. Bimston would only need to wait two hours before beginning the next one.
10:08D-1968, a 34-year-old white female with an IQ of 70, was brought in and told to feel
10:14the
10:14arm of the deceased D-2002 in order to check his pulse.
10:18After a few moments, she recoiled, saying that she'd been shocked.
10:22The waveforms in the air were consistent with previous SCP-1150 transference events.
10:27However, despite showing some brain activity consistent with SCP-1150 presence while undergoing
10:32an EEG, she didn't manifest any outward symptoms while sleeping.
10:37Interestingly, the symptoms did start to manifest when D-1968 was told by Foundation personnel that
10:43she'd been possessed by a benign angel spirit.
10:47It seemed to create a tether between her and the passenger.
10:50A week later, another researcher posing as a D-class told her that she'd actually been
10:54possessed by a demonic entity.
10:57When she believed that the entity was benign, she experienced possession by the passenger at
11:02an average of 10.5 hours each night.
11:05During this time period, D-1968 experienced a modest increase in IQ and motor coordination.
11:11However, when she believed she was being possessed by an evil demon, she lost the IQ increase
11:17and was only possessed for around 8 hours per night.
11:20Dr. Bimston left another note on these findings, reading,
11:22This indicates that A. SCP-1150 is capable of rapid transfer to an unwitting or unwilling host,
11:30but cannot secure control without some level of host awareness and or consent, and B.
11:35The degree of host willingness correlates to the amount of time that SCP-1150 is active.
11:40So now the Foundation knew not only that, but that the passenger could seemingly survive
11:45several hours after the death of its host and still make a successful transfer.
11:49In the next experiment, Further Matters of Consent, the researchers found that while there were
11:54seemingly no limits to the number of transfers possible, that included transferring from a
12:00dead or unconscious host, but there was no way that a passenger could transfer into a host
12:05that was unconscious at the moment of their contact.
12:08While analyzing the nature of the transference, Dr. Bimston wanted to see whether recreating the
12:13unique sound conditions of transference caused any changes in the efficacy of active transference.
12:19They instructed the passenger to initiate transfers in a room filled with 50 to 100 megahertz
12:24radio wave interference, the same sound band that had been observed during all the other
12:29transference states.
12:30While the transfer could happen in any condition, they did find that when the sound was particularly
12:35loud, it did extend the time it took for transfers to take place, all the way to an absolute maximum
12:41of around 700 seconds.
12:44Dr. Bimston's note on the file read,
12:46It appears that the radio burst is a facilitative effect, or perhaps a side effect, rather than a
12:52necessary condition for the transfer.
12:54And with all these discoveries logged, the researcher team wanted to return to what they
12:59believed was one of the most strange and concerning aspects of the anomaly, the ability to transfer
13:04after the death of a host.
13:06Just how extreme could they go before transference became impossible?
13:10Was there an upper limit to this?
13:12To find out, a passenger was transferred into D-1412, a 68-year-old black male who suffered
13:18from diabetes and CHD.
13:21After the natural passing of the subject from health complications, his body was taken to the
13:25Site-40 crematorium, where it was rendered into ash by extreme heat.
13:29From there, the ash was kept in storage for five weeks, while other experiments went on.
13:34And after the five weeks had elapsed, D-2333, a 50-year-old white female, was made to sift
13:40through the ashes with bare hands.
13:43She jumped back, startled, and claimed she'd touched something prickly inside the ash, like
13:48a cactus.
13:49Later analysis found that the passenger had indeed transferred to D-2333's body in a passive
13:55state.
13:56It led Dr. Rosenberg, another one of the researchers, to exasperately add the note,
14:01How the hell are we supposed to kill these things?
14:03And he had good practical reason to ask that question.
14:07It's recently come to light that Marshall, Carter, and Dark, one of the most well-funded
14:11and dangerous groups of interest in the Foundation roster, had hired two passengers and somehow
14:16inserted them into the minds of Foundation employees.
14:19They were tasked with acting as spies and deliver sensitive Foundation information back
14:23to their handlers, and those are just the two that were caught.
14:27We have no way of knowing if there are others out there.
14:30Because the passengers are not a monolith.
14:33They're individuals with choices, just like us.
14:36So inevitably, some of those choices are going to be dangerous.
14:41Now go check out Can SCP-049 Cure the Pestilence in SCP-3008 Infinite Ikea?
14:47Or what if SCP-096 was put inside SCP-914?
