03:36I don't think it makes a big difference in terms of the aerodynamics
03:39and certainly don't really like these fake exhaust tips
03:43but the C sedan on the other hand has a slightly more refreshed look

04:01down here same story continues with the AMG line with the fake tips
04:05but overall I still think the estate looks better
04:09under the hood of the ICE versions of the new C-Class
04:12you have slightly more updated versions of the tried and tested
04:152L turbo4 petrol and diesel engines with mild hybrid tech
04:20the most powerful petrol you can get is 258 horsepower with the C300
04:26and the strongest diesel is about 200 horsepower
04:29either rear-wheel drive or the 4MATIC all-wheel drive
04:33and again because it's a mild hybrid there is a little motor that can help
04:36with things like low-speed torque as well as high-speed coasting
04:40both the estate and the sedan can be had as plug-in hybrid
04:45as you can see this has a 100 kilowatt electric motor with a 19.5 net lithium-ion
04:52battery
04:53which gives you about 100 kilometers of electric only driving of course we can test that out
04:58in the real world charging speeds of about 11 kilowatt ac and 55 kilowatt dc
05:04I think it's a good option to have nowadays with the ever-changing market and the prices of
05:11petrol
05:11I think a plug-in hybrid makes a lot more sense today than it ever has done before
05:15here we have the key fob not much has changed and let's take a look inside
05:21same story here not much has changed a little bit of different material and finishes on the on the
05:27door
05:27but if you take a look inside there are some bigger changes indeed here
05:32for example you get this cherry red artico leather seat so before you had a very bright popping red
05:40which of course wasn't to everybody's taste this is a lot more palatable and i quite like
05:44this color
05:44there's also a beach brown i always prefer these artificial leatherette seats but if you want animal
05:51skin you can also get the leather and the napa leather as well but the big story really is
05:57the
05:57tech that's inside so let's hop inside and take a closer look at some of these upgrades this
06:04looks
06:04very familiar and very pleasant to me i really like mercedes interiors because they have so much intricate
06:10detailing especially with all the lights but what's different in in a great way is the fact that
06:16they
06:16have changed the steering wheel now to bring back rocker switches and rollers and more clickable buttons
06:23for your cruise control and your media control so i'm really glad i seen this already with the new
06:30cla that i drove but i'm really glad that buttons are coming back double thumbs up for that the
06:36digital
06:36instruments are very useful very familiar you can for example have different views like the entire
06:42screen can have the map you can bring the speedometer and the tack back in or have different kinds
06:48of
06:49you know odometer and your trip computer very useful indeed the new infotainment is on the
06:54latest mbOS
06:55so you have google in the background a lot of ai assistance and over the air updates you can use
07:01multiple commands together in natural language or you can use simple things like hey mercedes how
07:08can i help
07:08navigate me to manheim let's head to manheim of course the head of display is really large
07:17as we know
07:17and has the map integrated but with this new version of the c-class you also get augmented reality
07:23commands as well which is pretty cool in addition to that you have some new fun little features
07:30like for example you can choose the different ambient styles again similar to the things we've seen in
07:35other mercedes cars so the ambient lighting the background of the screen the theme of even your
07:42infotainment all of these things change along with the instrument cluster as well so pretty cool also
07:49some
07:49these come with their own sound profiles so you can play around and customize this to your liking
07:56this new version also comes with a camera which allows you to do things like authenticate purchases
08:05and payments on the apps here using your face also you can when you're parked you can have a
08:11video
08:11conferencing call and if you notice the camera is here actually it's in the middle um air
08:18vent and you
08:19might be wondering well aj does that mean i can turn the camera towards me because i can turn these
08:23vents
08:23and i tried but no this vent is now locked and it's rigid you can just turn it on
08:29and off
08:30but then the camera's always pointing inside there's a lot of adjustability in the seat as well
08:36as
08:36the steering wheel so finding a comfortable seating position is really easy this would be roughly where
08:41i would like to sit and as you can see i have plenty of headroom even with the pan
08:48oramic roof which
08:49in this case as you might have already guessed can be opened completely
08:55storage is also pretty well uh organized here in the interior you have pretty large door pockets
09:02but also here you see a nice damped glove box with felt lining and a shelf so really nice
09:09to organize
09:10different kinds of items it's not just one big kind of gaping cavity so good for that also
09:17lockable
09:19you have different inlay material options this is a carbon fiber like inlay i'll show you what
09:24the estate version has because there are some interesting new designs for that as well glossy black center
09:30console i know but yeah i think this is nothing new it does have a slight texture on it
09:37to be honest
09:37but it's very subtle but at the end of the day it will leave some fingerprints so better keep
09:43a microfiber cloth to clean that
09:46you can also open this panel and then down here you have a couple bottle holders which are a little
09:54bit more adaptive and are spring-loaded that's pretty nice you have a place to keep your
09:59key for example
10:00and an inductive phone charging pad over here really grippy with some ventilation a couple usb-
10:08c ports down
10:10there padded center armrest which is pretty robust and then you can open it to reveal a pretty
10:18shallow
10:19kind of a box here with another usb-c but i do like that there's a little
10:24light
10:24down there so you can see what's inside
10:27so overall pretty practical and again nothing too different so the wheelbase for the c-class sedan
10:32and the estate are the same but of course the body here is quite different so this does have
10:38a little bit less headroom in the back let's see how that really translates
10:42so getting inside is pretty easy again it's not too small so you don't have to bend low
10:50down but
10:51this is not an suv so yes keep that in mind
10:54this seat remember was set roughly to my driving position
10:58so me sitting behind myself at 173 centimeters or about five foot eight inches
11:04i have plenty of legroom there's plenty of space here
11:07i also have space to slide my feet under the front seat
11:10i generally tend to sit with the seat lower down but if you have
11:14a driver with a higher seating position there's even more space for your toes
11:18nice padded contours here two more climate zones again optional
11:25how many zones climate that you would like to have
11:29but nice that we have a dedicated console back here
11:32but not so nice that there is a large transmission tunnel right in the middle
11:36let's take a look at how the center seat is
11:40so yes i have to share the footwells of my co-passengers
11:45but the base is actually pretty comfortable but the back is a bit stiff
11:50and that's because as you might have guessed this is actually a center armrest
11:55with a phone holder which also doubles as cup holders
12:00so there's a lot of hard plastic material in this which makes it a bit
12:04stiffer but overall a pretty comfortable place
12:07along with two isofix child seats
12:10and i also like
12:13the fact that these isofix mounting points
12:16these flaps just tuck away
12:20like this you don't have to pop them out
12:22i recently became a father and i know
12:24that these isofix points if they pop out you can lose them easily
12:29so i like that this is just a little bit of that extra over engineering which i like
12:33this flap is a bit rubberized and this is stiff so this kind of tucks itself behind that
12:38i know i'm getting on about this but
12:40these small details really are what makes a luxury brand stand out
12:45it's the thought that matters
12:47here in the back as you see i have just enough headroom
12:50i'm not touching the top but if you're taller than me so if you're like thomas
12:546 foot then you probably will be
12:57there is a little glass panel here which helps kind of make the space look a little bit more
13:02bigger and feel a little bit more airy
13:04overall not terrible though
13:06this is the interior of the estate c-class
13:09as you see we have a different seat here
13:12this is a full leather seat
13:14this is a new kind of stitching that they have for this new version
13:18there's also different inlays this is a metallic finish
13:22the new c-class also comes with a wood grain inlay
13:26that you can spec if you want
13:28not real wood of course but i always think wood looks nice
13:32in a luxury car
13:34just to point it out again
13:36the climate control of course is also operated completely within
13:40the touchscreen so you have of course shortcut buttons that are always here
13:44but if you want a more detailed menu you can push this button
13:47and then you can go into more functions
13:50yeah
13:52i still prefer real physical buttons
13:55but again this has been around for such a long time now
13:58i've made my peace with it

14:02more headroom
14:04well
14:06yes but also
14:08it doesn't really seem like it was a hindrance
14:11in the rear seat of the sedan
14:13but definitely here there is a bit more space
14:16and this larger panoramic roof
14:19i think that is a bigger difference between the two
14:21it's a lot more airy
14:23so while i might not have so much more space
14:26i do
14:26it's more of the perceived space
14:29that really makes a difference here in the estate
14:31as compared to the sedan
14:33same extra climate unit here
14:36same central transmission tunnel
14:38same center armrest
14:40and the same great isofix points
14:44let's take a look inside the trunk
14:47as you can expect
14:48the sedan is not as practical as the estate
14:52this height is about 38 centimeters
14:55and that's partly due to the fact that
14:57the plug-in hybrid battery is below here
15:01so it doesn't give you a lot of vertical height
15:04you can fit a suitcase here
15:07it is pretty long
15:08and you can fold the seats down
15:1040 20 40 all the way lat
15:14there is a little bit of a dip
15:16but at the end of the day you can stack
15:18you know for example your ikea furniture
15:21but if real practicality
15:24is what you're after
15:25then certainly the estate makes much more sense
15:28with 490 liters of trunk capacity
15:33going up to 1510
15:35with the seat down
15:37if you don't have the plug-in hybrid
15:38because again you see here
15:40the battery takes up a little bit of space
15:42with this hump
15:43it's not terrible
15:44you do have this scuff plate
15:46and even this plastic kind of shield here
15:49so you don't damage
15:50the actual fabric
15:53but at the end of the day
15:53this is the more practical of the two
15:56also 40 20 40 folding seats
16:00with that little bit of a dip
16:02down here
16:03again because of that raised battery pack
16:06but to me this is
16:09definitely the smarter choice
16:11and i like this automatic parcel shelf as well
16:16the new c-class starts at around 49 000
16:19guros
16:20and goes up to 60 000guros
16:22for the sedan
16:23if you want the estate
16:24it's about 2 000guros more
16:26so this tops off at around 62 000guros
16:30amercedes have played it very smart and safe
16:32don't fix something that isn't broken
16:35this is a very popular platform
16:37and a very popular model
16:38they've just kept all the good traits of the existing platform
16:42but brought it up to date with all the new technology

16:51of the new c-class ev and the plug-in hybrid
