00:00Imagine you ignore a safety warning at work, something terrible happens, real people get hurt,
00:07and then you walk into meeting and say, don't worry, I will fix it.
00:12Would you call the courage or something much urge?
00:16Hey everyone, welcome back.
00:18That question sits at the center of today's movie Digger.
00:22Alan Jendroji, Edo 2, directed it and Tom Cruise stars in it.
00:27Instead of a long breakdown, I will answer three simple questions.
00:32Is it fun? Is it good? And should you actually go?
00:37Small spoilers only, nothing about the ending.
00:42Tom Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a very visual tycoon.
00:46His company drilling causes a disaster.
00:49A huge piece of ice breaks away and threatens Europe.
00:53Riz Ahmed, John Goodman and Sandra Huller are around him.
00:58Digger's plan is not to abolise.
01:01It's to be seen as the man who saves everyone.
01:05Question 1.
01:06Sort of, but not in the way you might think.
01:09It's a dark comedy.
01:11The tone is loud and the humor is meant to sting.
01:15Some jokes work, some do not.
01:17Here's the thing, if you walk in expecting Mission Impossible, you will be disappointed.
01:24There are no stunts.
01:26Tom Cruise is hidden under a bodysuit and prosthetics.
01:30And honestly, that the point.
01:32He's performing with his voice and his face.
01:35You know that feeling when your favorite band releases a strange experimental album?
01:41Some fans cheered, some feel betrayed.
01:45This movie is that album.
01:47Question 2.
01:48Is it good?
01:49Let's split this in two.
01:51The making and the feeling.
01:53The making is impressive.
01:55It was shot entirely in vista vision.
01:58With Emmanuel Lubicki behind the camera.
02:01Everything looks deliberate and expensive.
02:04Tom Cruise is committed.
02:06And John Goodman and Riz Ahmed are strong in smaller roles.
02:10Now the idea.
02:12Flim is about people who causes a mess.
02:15And then fight to control how the mess is remembered.
02:19And early on it makes a choice that changes how you look at what you have been watching.
02:26I won't say more.
02:27But this is a good moment to pause and think about how that choice lends for you.
02:33Some viewers will find it exciting.
02:35Others will feel paused away.
02:37Now the feeling hurts where it struggles.
02:40Several critics say that admire the film more than they felt it.
02:45And I can understand that.
02:47The stare can be very direct.
02:50Sometimes it's shouted instead of shown.
02:52And when the comedy misses, the serious moments feel lighter too.
02:57But it's never lazy.
02:59The film has a real idea and it takes risks to say it.
03:02Here's something worth knowing.
03:04The film reportedly cost around 125 million dollars.
03:10That's a lot for a movie this strange.
03:13The reviews are split almost down the middle.
03:16The Rotten Tomatoes score has been hovering in the low 50s.
03:21It's Tom Cruise lowest in about a decade.
03:24Even Warner Bros. lend into it with an ad that basically says dictate yourself.
03:31Who is honest and a little bit brave?
03:34Question 3.
03:35Should you go?
03:36Here's my honest recommendation.
03:38Go if you like movies that surprise you.
03:41Even when they are messy.
03:43Go if you want to see Tom Cruise do something completely different.
03:48Skip it if you want an easy comfortable action night.
03:53And if the film's big choice doesn't pull you in early, it probably won't later.
03:59Now I want to hear from you.
04:01After watching, would you say Digger was interesting or good?
04:05Those are not the same thing.
04:07Tell me in the comments.
04:09If you enjoyed this review, please like, subscribe and share it with a friend who loves movies.
04:15That's it for this review.
04:17Keep watching, keep thinking and I will see you in the next one.
04:22Bye bye.
