00:01Young people under 25 could lose the health element of universal credit under plans being
00:06considered by ministers. The payment has already been reduced to £217 a month for new claimants,
00:12and the government is considering removing it for existing claimants as well. Ministers are
00:18examining a new system to replace personal independence payments with separate arrangements
00:23for younger people among the options. The plans would include subsidised jobs, mental health
00:29support and targeted schemes to help young people into work. Ministers say people with
00:35the most severe disabilities will remain protected. The proposals are still being developed and
00:41would require legislation.
