00:00Jaden Daniels held a press conference following their practice today in London.
00:07Still nothing with respect to a decision on who will start Sunday.
00:12I think we'll learn that tomorrow from Dan Quinn.
00:15It's still, you know, a day later for me after listening to Quinn yesterday.
00:19My hunch is still Mariota.
00:22I think Mariota is going to start.
00:23But as I've said, my personal preference would be I wouldn't be overly cautious, unnecessarily cautious, let me say, if
00:36the doctors have cleared him and they say there's not a lot of benefit to waiting.
00:41If that's the case, I'd play him Sunday.
00:44If there's benefit to waiting, then I wouldn't play him on Sunday.
00:47I hope they don't err on the side of he's totally cleared, doctors aren't worried about, you know, needing another
00:55week to heal, and they end up being unnecessarily cautious.
00:59That's all.
01:01There were a lot of short answers here from Jaden, so we'll go through them.
01:06He was asked, are you surprised you could be back this soon?
01:10Are you surprised at any part that you'll be able to possibly be back out there this soon?
01:17What do you think?
01:19No?
01:20I don't think so.
01:22Nah, I'm not surprised.
01:24No, everything I went through, you know, everybody said I'd be good to go if I'm able to go out
01:30there on Sunday.
01:31But, again, just taking it day by day.
01:34All right, and then the follow-up to whether or not he'll be ready on Sunday.
01:39Do you think he'll be ready for Sunday?
01:41Just taking it day by day.
01:43All right, these really are short.
01:45I told you.
01:46I haven't heard them.
01:47Yeah.
01:49After we get through these, I'll determine whether or not it made sense to even do this.
01:53I don't know why they did this.
01:55I don't think they had to, but, you know, you're hearing from a quarterback on a day that usually quarterbacks
02:02don't talk.
02:03Did Daniel Jones hold a presser today?
02:05I don't think so.
02:06I don't think he did, no.
02:07Well, because Mariota did yesterday, correct?
02:10Yeah, and I would assume that Daniel Jones held his yesterday as well.
02:14All right, this was Daniel's on seeing specialists and foregoing, deciding not to do surgery.
02:21Jayden, after seeing those specialists last week and learning whatever you did from them,
02:26like, why did you make the decision to forego surgery for now and try to give it a go to
02:30come back this season?
02:33I love football.
02:34I play football.
02:37And, I mean, I get paid to play football.
02:39So, I owe it to, you know, my teammates and stuff like that.
02:43Like, everybody's hurting, something's wrong with somebody on this team.
02:47So, I just feel like just for me, just being a leader, being a guy, just going out there and
02:53giving my shot,
02:55giving my shot to go out there and play and obviously protect myself, you know, stuff like that.
03:00But, you know, I just love football.
03:02I have a passion for it.
03:04All right.
03:06And then just ask another follow-up to how the elbow feels right now.
03:12And Dan Quinn said it's not really a pain tolerance thing when it comes to your left elbow and when
03:16you'll be able to play,
03:17but he said it's more about functionality, strength.
03:19Like, how do you just being out there and practicing, how does that feel the first couple days?
03:23I mean, it feels good.
03:24It's going to be an adjustment period, but it just feels good to go back out there and really just
03:28play football again.
03:31All right.
03:32Now, he's going to wear a brace.
03:33And Quinn said yesterday he will be playing in a brace, obviously, what we thought would happen.
03:39So, he was asked about how the brace is.
03:42Here's what he said.
03:43How is it working with that brace, wearing the brace?
03:47Does that affect you at all?
03:48I mean, I'm sure it's not ideal, but.
03:50No, not really.
03:51I'm just getting used to it.
03:52That's pretty much it.
03:54And then there was a follow-up, right, to the brace on sort of range of motion.
03:58Yeah.
03:58Do you have full range of motion in that?
04:01And does that matter for that?
04:04In the brace?
04:05Yeah.
04:09I mean, no.
04:10I mean, full range, like, all the way flexion, extension.
04:14No, not extension.
04:18Just for the doctors, but flexion for sure.
04:22What was that?
04:23Not extension, but.
04:25But flexion.
04:26So, I think, like, bringing it inward.
04:28Okay.
04:29Yeah, I mean, I think, remember the, um, uh, Dr. Harrison Solomon, who we had on the show,
04:39uh, said that he would, you know, adjust the brace to a certain angle as to not allow full extension.
04:46Because at full extension, that's when he's most susceptible to another dislocation.
04:53So, it looks like maybe they've done that.
04:56My question when he discussed that with us was, how do you handle those runs to the right where you
05:07got to reach out with the left hand?
05:09You don't, is the answer, more likely than not.
05:13And you turn them into pitches.
05:15You know, so, runs to the right will probably be, you know, outside zone runs will probably be pitched.
05:21That's my guess.
05:23Um, this was on any change to the throwing motion.
05:29Go ahead.
05:3011.
05:31Does it, do you have to change how you throw the ball at all?
05:34Is there any kind of differences?
05:35How about handing the ball off?
05:36Nope.
05:36It's all, doesn't bother, doesn't make any difference?
05:39Nope.
05:40Okay.
05:41Nope.
05:42Except for, he said he can't extend the left arm.
05:47So, maybe on a, on a handoff going to the right?
05:50Maybe.
05:51Maybe not.
05:52Uh, any concern for re-injury, Jaden Daniels?
05:58And is, anything in the back of your head in terms of, like, falling awkwardly, getting hit on the elbow,
06:03concerns of, like, getting re-injured?
06:04No, that's what the brace is for.
06:06So, if I had that concern, then I probably got surgery.
06:11Okay.
06:12So, he thinks that the brace is sort of foolproof or, you know, against another dislocation.
06:19I think we were told that it isn't foolproof against another dislocation.
06:23Um, but, that's what, uh, he's been told.
06:27And then, this, uh, was a question asked about whether or not he'll get surgery when the season's over.
06:33Hey, Jaden, are you under the impression that, whether it's after the season, that you will have to have surgery
06:39on that elbow?
06:39Uh, I mean, I gotta wait till after the season and see, you know, what the doctors say and everything
06:45and, uh, make the decision that's best for me.
06:48Okay, well, there you go on that.
06:51Uh, that sounded like perhaps he realizes that more likely than not, or at least there's a chance, he's gonna
06:58end up having surgery.
06:59Let's hope that it is after the season and not later in the season.
07:05Uh, this was Jaden Daniels just moments ago on potential conversations surrounding a brace before the season began.
07:14And, obviously, we're all making a big deal about the brace now.
07:17Was there, what was the conversation, I presume there was one before the season or before training camp, about do
07:22you wear the brace or not?
07:24Was there one?
07:24And, what was your kind of view of, at that point, as to why, ultimately, you didn't wear one?
07:30Um, no, there wasn't a conversation before.
07:33So.
07:36No conversation about wearing a brace, uh, before the season started.
07:40And, again, you know, from what we've learned over the last week and a half, the likelihood of recurrence after
07:49the first dislocation was one to two percent.
07:53The surgery, uh, option, very rare after one dislocation.
07:59Now, what we don't know is whether or not it was, you know, aggravated to a point in the Minnesota
08:05game where maybe surgery and or a brace should have been considered.
08:11That's a, that's the, the re-aggravation of the elbow on the Van Ginkle interception when he essentially got tossed
08:18up into the air and landed on his elbow.
08:20We don't know whether or not that was another dislocation or not and whether it should have prompted, uh, more
08:27caution, uh, a more cautionary approach with respect to something like brace.
08:32But the fact that Quinn said a brace wasn't discussed, he said it wasn't, to me, that means they got
08:40the information that a recurrence was very, very rare.
08:43Uh, there was one more, let's play 22, uh, Max, on the long-term impact of multiple elbow dislocations.
08:52And, Jaden, you've mentioned why you wanted to come back, partly just you're a football player, this is what you
08:57do.
08:57But in speaking with the specialists, whether either this season or last year, did they speak to you about what
09:02the long-term impact can be if you continue to dislocate that elbow?
09:06And why is that, is that, I guess, a concern for you once you get past, you know, coming back
09:11this year?
09:13Uh, that's what the brace is for.
09:15And then, uh, you know, obviously you have those conversations and, you know, when people that I need to have
09:22those conversations with and, you know, if the surgery needed to be ASAP, then you got to do what's best
09:28for me.
09:29Um, but obviously we had those conversations and I'm blessed enough to go back out there on the practice field,
09:34but that's most definitely what the brace is for.
09:36So, you know, really concerned at this, at this moment.
09:40Okay.
09:40So basically it came down to brace or surgery.
09:45And they said brace was absolutely a way he could go.
09:50Um, and he believes it'll be super protective of the elbow.
09:54And then they'll probably at the end of the year discuss whether or not surgery makes sense.
09:59And that's what we want.
10:01We want a season with a brace that doesn't impact the football, uh, you know, a level for him.
10:06And it's Jaden Daniels playing quarterback and the elbows protected and they can deal with the elbow when the season's
10:13over.
10:13And then, by the way, we haven't talked about any other potential injuries because he's had others as well.
10:19So just, you know, this is one of those, I'm kind of with him and with the team.
10:27I know it's, he's a young player, but this isn't a knee.
10:32This isn't concussions.
10:34This is the non-throwing elbow.
10:37And if a brace gives them a high level of confidence of protecting it while he's playing football,
10:44even if he did end up dislocating it again with a brace, it's not a career ender.
10:52I think we understand that.
10:54Uh, so three weeks into the season, yeah, strap it up, brace it up.
11:01Let's go beat the Colts.
11:02Although I don't think he's going to play Sunday.
11:04That's just my guess.
