00:00Russia just issued a nuclear warning over one of its most isolated territories in Europe.
00:04The warning is about Kaliningrad, a Russian region sitting on the Baltic Sea between Poland
00:09and Lithuania. Russia reportedly says that if the UK or NATO ever tries to blockade Kaliningrad
00:15or launch a military strike against it, Russia could respond using all available means,
00:19including nuclear weapons. The statement came in response to hypothetical war scenarios discussed
00:24in British media. If you look at the map, Kaliningrad has no land connection to mainland
00:28Russia. But it gives Russia an important military and naval position on the Baltic Sea. And this
00:33region wasn't always Russian. Before 1945, Kaliningrad was part of German territory known
00:38as East Prussia. During the final stages of World War II, Soviet forces captured the region. After
00:44the war, East Prussia was divided. The northern part became part of the Soviet Union, while the
00:48southern part went to Poland. Then in 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed, but Kaliningrad remained
00:54part of Russia. And today, it sits right next to NATO territory. So in any major Russia-NATO conflict,
01:00this small piece of Russian territory could become a very important flashpoint.
