What would actually happen if a 1,000 ants had to fight a black widow? Would the black widows venom come out on top, or would the sheer number of ants overwhelm her? In this video I tested that, and also a bunch of other cool interesting stuff with ants so yea it was pretty cool :D

00:00If 1,000 ants had to fight a black widow, what would actually happen?
00:04Would the spider's venom come out on top, or would the sheer number of ants overwhelm her?
00:08Well, in this video, I'm going to test ants against that, and tons of other interesting
00:12scenarios to see how strong ants really are.
00:14The only problem is, I don't have 1,000 ants.
00:17Thankfully, I found this website that sells just that.
00:20And the coolest thing is, it's a mystery species, meaning we might actually get something
00:23really good.
00:25$300.
00:26Let's just add this to the cart.
00:27And I bought the most expensive shipping option to make sure the ants would arrive without
00:30any dying during the shipping.
00:32Oh, I am so excited.
00:33As long as I got a good species, it's going to be so fun to watch these go against the
00:36black widow and everything else I have planned for them.
00:39Anyways, I brought them to the recording area and opened up the package, and I was kind of
00:43surprised by what I found.
00:44Nah, are they in here?
00:45Oh, oh my gosh.
00:46Okay, there actually is like 1,000.
00:49Okay, at least I didn't get scammed.
00:50Since they were in a pill bottle, I couldn't really get a good look at them, so I got a
00:54clear container and dumped them all inside.
00:56Instantly, you could now see the true scale of what 1,000 ants actually looks like.
01:00And at least, I mean, I think it's 1,000.
01:02I'm not counting all these guys.
01:03And after analyzing the species, I realized that these were harvester ants, which are
01:07equipped with venomous stingers.
01:09And massive mandibles, meaning yes, this was actually going to be a very interesting video
01:13with everything I was going to test.
01:15Now, for these 1,000 ants to be able to fight a black widow, we first need to get them
01:19in a nest.
01:20And well, everyone say hello to the terror jar.
01:23It's like terror green, except I replaced the green with a jar.
01:26Anyways, let me go and dump all these guys in here.
01:28Be free, everyone.
01:29This is way bigger than that tiny pill bottle you were in.
01:32Right away, you could see the ants starting to move around on top of the soil.
01:35Now, you might be thinking that this isn't enough space for the ants.
01:38Well, it actually is, because this is specifically designed for the ants to dig out tunnels all
01:42along the sides of the glass.
01:44And as the video progresses, we're going to see their nest get crazier and crazier.
01:47And yeah, most of the ants were kind of going crazy trying to climb up the glass.
01:50But after leaving them alone for only a few hours, you could see they were already starting
01:54to construct their tunnel system.
01:56Each of the worker ants would pick up singular grains of sand from the tunnels, walk up to
02:00the surface, drop the sand, and go back down to repeat the process.
02:04And when you have 1,000 ants, you can see they dig out a pretty good amount in only just
02:07an hour of this time-lapse footage.
02:09Oh yeah, it's sick to see the ants already starting to build their nest, and it should
02:12be fully dug out by the end of the video.
02:14Anyways, as you know, I'll be putting these guys to the test against a black widow.
02:17But before then, I have all of these different training activities to prepare the ants for
02:22the final spider boss.
02:23Second up, we're going to see how fast they can take down some prey.
02:26Yup, we've got a cricket.
02:28Oh my gosh, crickets, hate me, and sorry buddy, you are going to be, well, I guess you guys
02:34will just see what's about to happen.
02:35Well, right after dropping the cricket in, literally within like a nanosecond, the ants
02:39were swarming it.
02:40I thought it would only take like a couple minutes, but no, this cricket was already pinned
02:44down, getting venom injected into him.
02:46As I said earlier, each of these ants is equipped with a venomous stinger that is obviously not
02:51super deadly to humans, but to crickets, when there's like 20 ants repeatedly stinging
02:55you, you're kind of done for.
02:56Yup, ants don't play around when there's a threat near their nest, and you can see over
02:59the next 30 minutes, the crickets stayed completely surrounded by the ants.
03:03And I'm guessing they already started to rip its antennas off and stuff to get a tasty
03:07meal to spread with the rest of the colony.
03:08Dang, that was cool to watch.
03:10Anyways, it's getting late, so I think I'm going to go and put this bucket on top of the ants
03:13so it's dark for them, and I'm going to go to sleep, and hopefully when I wake up, there's
03:16going to be tons more tunnels.
03:18Anyways, yeah, I'll see you guys in the morning.
03:19And over those next 10 hours, the ants made their tunnels so much larger and more intricate
03:23than before.
03:24And on the back, they even had tunnels all the way down at the bottom, with ants actively
03:28walking about the whole system.
03:29Anyway, ants, it's 8 a.m., and that means it's time, as you can see, as the alarm's going
03:34off, it's time for challenge number three.
03:37Let's get these ants trained even more.
03:38For this training, I have to pick up one unlucky ant and transport him to the antlion pit.
03:44If you don't know what an antlion is, well, this is it.
03:47It's just a tiny little bug that has actually evolved over millions of years to be an expert
03:52at taking down ants.
03:53Basically, when you go and put them on the floor, they start to dig themselves under
03:56the ground, and then they just go around digging.
03:59And I have nine more of these guys, which I spread across the whole tank.
04:02And as you can see, they all dig around, making these little lines in the ground.
04:05But after waiting a few hours, you can see that each of the antlions had actually dug
04:09out their own little pits in the ground.
04:11And when an ant walks into the bottom of them, they're basically cooked.
04:15All right, ant, I'm going to put you right at the start.
04:17And at the end, I'm going to put some breadcrumbs so you can bring back to the colony if you
04:22survive this.
04:23And without further ado, I let the ant loose.
04:25Let's see if he can get the bread to feed the colony.
04:27Immediately, he started to explore around the sand area.
04:30He had no idea that he was constantly walking near these pits of death.
04:34And eventually, he took a wrong step and stumbled inside of one.
04:36These pits are specifically designed to make the ants trip into them.
04:40But the antlion at the bottom must have been sleeping or something, because nothing happened
04:43and the ant was just able to walk out.
04:45But if you look closely, this caused the antlion to wake up.
04:48He was now active and armed, with his mandibles now throwing up sand in case the ant walked
04:52in again.
04:53And over the next few minutes, the ant did just that.
04:55He kept walking inside of the pit, but the antlion just could never quite snap on the ant
05:00at the right time.
05:01Well, that was until this.
05:02You see, this is paused footage, but basically, if we unpause it, you can see exactly what
05:06happens when an antlion gets a hold of the ant.
05:08The antlion started to bring the ant underground, and within a few seconds, it was like there
05:12was never anything even here.
05:14I thought it was over, and you could tell by the sand moving that the ant was getting
05:17pulled further and further underground.
05:20But all of a sudden, I saw this.
05:21A little bit of the ant's head had poked out of the ground.
05:24He somehow was fighting back, and must have been using its stinger to try and escape.
05:28I immediately rushed back and recorded with my other camera, and what I saw was so weird.
05:33The ant had somehow made it out from under the sand, but it wasn't trying to escape.
05:37In fact, it was using its front legs to try and dig back under the ground.
05:42Bro, what the heck?
05:44Why is this ant digging like a dog?
05:46He's literally using his front legs to dig in the sand where he almost just got killed.
05:50Bro, this guy's crazy.
05:52Nah, bro.
05:52If you want to be eaten by an antlion that bad, I will gladly put you right there.
05:57Have fun, buddy.
05:57And right after putting him in this pit, this antlion also woke up and eventually snapped
06:02at the ants.
06:03And it once again started to pull him underground.
06:05But miraculously, this ant was able to fight back once again and somehow broke free, immediately
06:11ran out of the hole, and straight over to the breadcrumbs to claim his prize.
06:15Nah, this ant shirked me to have me move him closer to the bread, and now he somehow won
06:21the challenge.
06:22Nah, bro.
06:23There is something up with these ants.
06:24I'm being dead serious.
06:25How on earth did he escape the antlion pit over here?
06:29And how on earth did he escape this one and then know to go to the bread?
06:32And now he's trying to bring bread back to the colony.
06:34Bro, well played.
06:35You survived.
06:36I'll bring you and all the bread back to the colony.
06:39So I brought it all over to the nest, and the entire colony was clearly super excited
06:43because they all swarmed the bread and started taking little pieces of it underground.
06:47Anyways, I went and waited a few hours and came back to find the nest even bigger once
06:51again.
06:51The ants still are not done with their training sessions, and next up, we had to see if they
06:55can survive some Venus fly traps for some food.
06:58So I immediately picked up some of the workers to bring them to the fly trap minefield, completely
07:03decked out with tons of Venus fly trap plants.
07:06For the food on this obstacle, we got a gorilla.
07:09I'm just kidding.
07:09I don't know why it's packaged in this.
07:11Basically, what it is, is just a bunch of oats, and I'm just going to feed these to
07:14the ants.
07:15Let's put them inside.
07:16You see, each Venus fly trap has these tiny little trigger hairs inside of them, and when
07:20something touches them, it causes them to close.
07:22And if I carefully put the oats in between the hairs without hitting any of them, I can
07:26basically just put the food in here, which will make the ants have to carry them out.
07:30But it was actually pretty hard to get the oats perfectly inside, so I ended up just spreading
07:33the oats everywhere around the tank.
07:35All right, let's see how the ants do in here.
07:38I have a feeling they're not going to do too well, but yeah, we'll see.
07:41Immediately, the ants had started to swarm out the tube that I'd put them in, and they
07:44were probably really confused of why they were all just transported away from their nest.
07:48And for a little while, they kind of just walked around, investigating their new environment.
07:52But that was until a couple minutes later, where this first ant walked up to a Venus fly
07:56trap plant.
07:57He probably had no idea that these plants were basically alive and wanted to eat him whole.
08:01Thankfully, though, this guy was able to walk out of the plants without triggering any
08:04of the traps.
08:05However, a few minutes later, this ant walked up to another one of the plants.
08:09And well, this time, all I'll say is he wasn't as lucky.
08:12Surprisingly, he wasn't super attracted to the oats, but it did seem like he may have
08:16been attracted to the traps themselves.
08:18You see, Venus fly traps create a very thin layer of nectar around the lip of the jaws
08:22to lure insects in.
08:23And eventually, this ant ended up, well, walking into one, hitting a trigger hair, and just
08:28like that, he was now stuck inside of the jaws.
08:31As you can see, the ant was just walking around inside, trying to escape, and he had no idea
08:36what to do.
08:36Too bad for this guy.
08:37This trap is going to release a type of acid over the next few days to basically just turn
08:41them into some nutrients to make the plant even stronger.
08:44Now, interestingly enough, pretty much all the ants I had put inside were staying away
08:47from the traps, and were all grouped up around this corner.
08:50In fact, they were actually starting the process of digging some more tunnels.
08:53Now, these ants still think they're in the nest.
08:55They're just trying to dig.
08:57Well, I mean, I guess it's pretty smart if you're not getting eaten by the traps.
08:59Because over the next 20 minutes, only one single ant came across another Venus fly
09:04trap.
09:04This guy.
09:05Let's call him Larry.
09:06Now, Larry is a daredevil, because he was walking all over the jaws of all of these plants,
09:12absolutely risking it for the biscuit.
09:13But eventually, Larry's luck ran out, because this happened.
09:16The jaw had closed on him, leaving half of his body stuck out of it.
09:21But this was actually pretty good for Larry, because it means he had a chance to escape.
09:24Using all of his strength, which, albeit it's not very much, he tried pushing himself
09:29out of the jaws.
09:30But the trap is designed to just get tighter and tighter as time goes on, meaning this ant
09:34was doomed.
09:35Well, not actually, because I kind of felt bad for Larry, so I cheated nature and used
09:39my tweezers to open the trap.
09:41I safely got Larry out and brought him back to the rest of the colony.
09:44Anyways, that training actually went really well.
09:46Every single ant survived, except one.
09:48So, I brought him all back to the nest and gave the whole colony a bunch of these little
09:52gorilla oats to show my support.
09:53As you can see, it didn't take long for some of the ants to start moving the oats down to
09:57their intricate tunnel systems.
09:59And speaking of these tunnel systems, the last training session I'm putting these ants
10:02through before the Black Widow is a flood simulation.
10:06Yeah, I'm flooding this ant nest.
10:07Well, kinda, because if I actually flooded this thing, it would kill every single ant.
10:12So, instead, I've got this thing called the Little Dripper, which, as you can see, drips
10:16some water droplets very slowly.
10:18Yeah, it might seem kinda lame, but this little bit of water should be enough to eventually
10:23collapse part of the ant's tunnel system.
10:25And if it does collapse, if they can fix it quickly, it means they would've passed all
10:29my training missions, and that means they're ready for the Black Widow.
10:31So, I immediately started to drop the little droplets of water.
10:35And initially, the ants were very confused.
10:37Some of the droplets were hitting the ants and making them get completely drenched in water.
10:41But to my surprise, it almost seemed like the ants wanted to get wet, because more and
10:46more of the ants started to gather around where the water was dropping.
10:49And eventually, a whole pile of ants was getting completely soaked by it.
10:54You see, ants are amazing in their ability to work as a team.
10:56And in the wild, if a real flood occurred, a massive ant colony would literally join together
11:01to make a raft out of their bodies.
11:03And that way, the important stuff like the queen and eggs could stay on the top and stay
11:07dry to ensure the future of the colony.
11:09And on a mini scale, this is sort of what the ants are doing here.
11:12They're joining together to make a shield out of their bodies that will prevent the water
11:16from getting into their tunnels where all the eggs are stored.
11:19Wow, ants are actually amazing.
11:21I was totally expecting these tunnels to just collapse from the water.
11:25But it seems like ants have literally evolved to do pretty much anything.
11:28I'll remove this water.
11:29I don't want to do any more harm.
11:30You guys prove to me you're very capable.
11:32They instantly took down the cricket, somehow escaped the ant lions, survived the Venus fly
11:37traps, and even survived a flood.
11:39And throughout that process, they managed to build an awesome nest with a thriving colony.
11:43It is safe to say these ants are ready for my Black Widow.
11:47Now, this is actually my last Black Widow because all the other ones from my other videos
11:52have escaped.
11:53Yeah, um, don't tell my mom.
11:55But anyways, I went and put the Black Widow in a container so you guys could get a good
11:59look at it.
11:59And as you can tell, it has that insane iconic red hourglass abdomen.
12:04Wait, uh, wait, sorry.
12:05This is my pet robot Black Widow.
12:07Uh, this is not the real one.
12:08Um, here is the real Black Widow.
12:10As you can tell, it's extremely creepy, and under its glossy black abdomen is where the
12:15red hourglass is located.
12:17These guys have an insane amount of venom, so if it even bites a single ant, it's safe
12:21to say it's gonna be a goner.
12:22Anyways, here is the tank where the final battle will take place.
12:26I went and put a few sticks from my backyard, then I put in the Black Widow.
12:30Immediately, she started climbing all over the sticks.
12:32And I went and waited a little while while she sort of settled in and found a nice spot
12:36to rest.
12:36Once she did, I went to the ant nest, scooped a good amount of the workers into a tube so
12:41we could get this battle started.
12:43Let's get these ants in here.
12:44Let the games begin!
12:48Immediately, the ants started to run out of the tube and down onto the sand.
12:52When pretty much all of the ants had made it down to the sand, some started to make their
12:55way over to the Black Widow, which was just purged right above them on the sticks.
12:59But I'm not gonna lie, I'm a pretty impatient guy, and I couldn't bear to wait for the battle
13:03to start.
13:04So, I literally picked up the stick myself to bring the spider down to the ants.
13:08Immediately, the spider started to run around.
13:10None of the ants really noticed besides this guy.
13:12That kinda bit the spider's leg or something and scared it away.
13:15The spider tried to escape as fast as it could by climbing the glass, but it was too slick.
13:19Once a few other of the ants had noticed the Black Widow was on the ground, they started
13:23to jump it.
13:24And it was actually pretty funny to watch, because as you can see, there's barely any ants,
13:28and the spider was so scared trying to run away at full speed.
13:32Bro, you're like the most venomous spider in the world, why are you not just fighting
13:36back?
13:36And yeah, a couple of the ants just kinda continued to terrorize the Black Widow.
13:40But the thing is, all of the rest of the ants were kinda just doing their own thing at
13:44the other side of the enclosure.
13:45I had to make this more interesting, so I had a better plan.
13:48I went and picked up all of the ants to bring them back to the nest.
13:51Alright, well, I got the Black Widow from the tank, and hey, the title did say 1,000 ants
13:55versus Black Widow.
13:57Let's actually put this to the test against 1,000 ants.
13:59And well, I dropped the spider inside, and it immediately started going crazy running
14:04everywhere.
14:05And obviously, the ants did not act kindly.
14:07Every single worker went on red alert mode and jumped onto the spider, grabbing her with
14:12their mandibles and repeatedly stinging it over and over.
14:15As you saw with the cricket, ants do not mess around with stuff in their nest.
14:19And to my surprise, the Black Widow did not even get a chance to fight back.
14:23It's actually pretty crazy how quickly the ants had pinned it down and started to devour
14:28And yeah, well, that's literally all that happened, and that should answer your question
14:32of who wins in a fight.
14:331,000 ants definitely wins, and they basically beat everything.
14:37There's a reason why ants are the secret king of the animal kingdom, because there's
14:41quadrillions of ants around the world.
14:43One final thing.
14:44I have an important message to all the kids and families and parents watching out there,
14:48because the new Terror Green Activity book was just released.
14:51Now, seriously, we just released this book that we put so much time into to make it the
14:55most educational, fun experience ever.
14:57Everything can be colored, and it's a journey that goes through all five different biomes.
15:01But not only are there so many tons of fun facts, but it has you test your creativity.
15:05Like, on this page, you get to design the perfect habitat for a mudskipper, and on this
15:09one, you even get to design your own axolotl for each of those.
15:11I mean, I could talk about this for like 10 minutes, but if you just want to learn more,
15:14and if it sounds interesting to anyone out there watching, check it out on terrorgreenstore.com.
15:18There's some more information.
15:19Thank you so much for watching this video.
15:21And, yeah, it's over now.
15:23Hey, boy.
15:23Who's your good boy?
15:25I know you guys just like seeing my doggie, so, yeah, he's just kind of sleepy right now.
