00:15but Steph was sort of responding to what his coach and teammate had already said.
00:22So how do you pull this apart?

00:29So here's Steve Kerr when asked what defines success this year.
00:34I had a feeling that might be coming.
00:36You know, last year, I think I told the team,
00:39so we're trying to win the championship, you know, like, what's our goal?
00:43And they all said championship.
00:44And that was, you know, we wanted, I think I even told them,
00:48we want a home court advantage in the playoffs.
00:50You go through what we did last year with the injuries,
00:53you flip things over to this year, this summer, you decide,
00:58all right, we're going to reimagine everything.
01:00Part of that reimagining is you focus on the process every single day.
01:05I thought we slipped last year in some of our fundamental stuff,
01:09even just team stuff, you know, being late a little bit.
01:12I think we've got to tighten things up.
01:14I am 100% locked in on the process on how we're teaching every single day.
01:19And I firmly believe that if we do that from the beginning,
01:23without even mentioning anything about expectations,
01:28then we're going to have a good season.
01:29And that's how I'm approaching things.

01:32So Steve goes, let's forget results.
01:35Let's just talk process.
01:37I can respect that.
01:38That's your guy.

01:39I love process over results.
01:40I'm all my results.
01:41I know you are.
01:43Now Draymond Green has asked the same question.
01:46Whether you win a championship or not,
01:48you don't get to the end and be like, oh, man, that was a great year.
01:51Like, you know throughout the process that you had a great process.
01:54And so ultimately for us, each and every day we walk in here,
01:58we must be on a trajectory of putting together a great project.
02:04And if you put together a great project, when you get to the end of it,
02:08regardless of what the result is, you feel some sense of accomplishment.
02:14You know, it's like if I do this great project at school and I put my all into it
02:20and I know I did my absolute best, it comes back and it's like, man, you got to be minus.
02:27And you're like, I know I put my all into that.
02:30You may be a little upset that you got to be minus, but you're not going to go back
02:34and be like, I feel bad about the work I did because you already feel great about it.
02:39And you knew along the way and doing and putting this project together,
02:43how much you gave to this project.
02:45So for us, put together a great process and then you get to the end
02:50and you let the cards fall where they may.
02:52I hate to be cliche, but in 2022, nobody walked in that season like, hey,
02:58here's the beginning of a championship year.
03:00But our process was great, which then allowed us to grow over the season
03:05and become a championship team.
03:08Not saying this is 2022 or this is that team.
03:11I'm just saying in general, that's one for sure where no one walked in
03:15and said you're going to win a championship.
03:17And then we did.
03:18So just putting together a great process.
03:22So Draymond also, I think at least four times in that clip,
03:26you hear him talk about process.
03:29So then the question ends up with Steve Kerr.
03:32Hey, are lowered expectations kind of a good thing?

03:38Yeah, I don't mind the fact that everyone's picking us to miss the playoffs.
03:41You know, that's not a bad spot to be in as a team, as a coach.
03:46For me, what it means is we get to focus on the process.

05:05But somewhere tucked in there is the lowering of expectations.
05:11And I don't think Steph appreciated it very much.
05:13And again, I don't think he's not pointing it at Steve or Draymond or Ian Killian for that matter.
05:18But I find this whole thing interesting because the Warriors are multi-time champions and huge names with gravitas to
05:28burn.
05:28I don't think you can lower expectations.

05:34Like, you can try.
05:35They've been lowered, like, by the very markets that we all trade in, whether it's, you know, the FanDuel, the
05:42DraftKings, or the Calshi, they're sitting at an over-under for the win total of 40 and a half.

05:51That's the functional reality of what the markets and what most people think you are going to be.
05:56That's fine.
05:57But here's why I'm going to push back on that.
05:59And I'll even, let's do it just me and you.
06:02Because I bet you'll be one of these people.
06:04You'll say right now, I don't expect anything.
06:09But you will.
06:10I expect them to win 40 or more games.

06:13Do you expect them to be a playoff team?
06:16Maybe.
06:16I expect them to be a play-in team.
06:18And then who knows what goes from there.

06:20I don't think that 41 and 41 gets you the sixth seed in the West.
06:24So, no, I expect them to be 7 through 10.
06:28Hopefully, they're closer to 7 than they are 10.
06:30That way, maybe they can make it out of there.
06:32I guess what I'm telling a Warrior fan is if that's what you expect, then don't get mad.
06:37Don't get mad if they're super bland and mediocre.
06:40Well, if they go 35 and 47, I can be mad.

06:48But I can then have a reaction to that.

06:53My bet, my expectation is that people are not going to actually match their expectation with their emotion.

07:03The Warriors are too big of a deal.
07:05These names are too big.
07:07You can lower expectations.
07:08We can sit here and go, oh, your knee is hurt and your win total is only 40 or 41
07:14or whatever it is.
07:15But I bet it still won't feel that way.
07:18If you have no expectations, then you shouldn't be surprised if it doesn't go well.
07:23But I think the Warriors, this is part of what they've been dealing with the last few years.
07:28You can have 38-year-olds and 42-year-olds running around out there.
07:32And the fan base will still be like, this is not okay.
07:36This is not measuring up because there's a bar that's been set so high.
07:42And it's very difficult, I think, to unravel that.
07:45Well, you're not trying to reach that bar.
07:47And I love what Draymond said about 2022.
07:50And I think it's all kind of revisionist history that we don't remember the actual math of it.
07:56And I'm looking at it here.
07:57Their over-under that year for the win total was 48-and-a-half.
08:01And the Warriors won 53 games, so pay the over.
08:04And they were 9-1 to win the NBA championship, which was the third lowest odds.
08:11And then you look at this year, the Warriors are 60-1.
08:15To win the NBA championship.
08:16So, 2022, we romanticized it as this out-of-nowhere team.
08:21It really wasn't.
08:22They were the third choice to win the whole thing.
08:24They had a good, not elite, regular season.
08:26And then they got hot.
08:28This team, if this team won the title at 60-1 and an over-under of basically 41 wins,
08:34that would be truly remarkable.
08:36It would be unbelievable.
08:37But I'm not even really talking about it in terms of championship.
08:40I just think this, I think we know this fan base pretty well.
08:44And I don't think that their emotions will match their expectations.
08:48I think you'll say right now, this isn't going to go well.
08:51But then if it doesn't go well, there will be anger and criticism surrounding that.
08:56And that's not normally the way that it goes.
08:59Like, in other words, if they actually play to your win total expectation,
