01:48So this morning, good morning by the way, I've come up Mount Bellis which is to the north
01:56of Lake Karkina for some landscape photography.
02:04This time of year when we get really cold mornings, there's a lovely fog that lies over the lake
02:10and it makes for some stunning images as it pours through the trees.
02:15And that's what I'm hoping to get this morning.
02:18There's a little bit of fog down there and the most of what you see on the horizon along
02:23here is smog caused by farmers burning the stubble in their fields.
02:33So despite that, I'm hoping that the sun which is going to break through up there very shortly
02:41will still give us a beautiful sunrise and the low light will cut through the trees with the mist
02:50and the trees and the colors of the autumn and hopefully should make some for some lovely images.
02:57Just to give you a quick orientation of where we are, this is the entire valley below with the lake
03:08on it.
03:12And this silver line that you see along here, that is the river Strymonas, which is the main river supplying
03:22the lake with water.
03:24And that river runs all the way through to Bulgaria, so the water comes down from Bulgaria into this lake.
03:32And as you see the line, if you can make it out, the line up here down here, it goes
03:40right down into the middle of the lake.
03:43And either side of it is the forest where in the summer all the birds nest, the cormorants, the herons,
03:56the egrets, spoonbills,
03:59there's an amazing variety of birds, glossy ibis, and the pelican platforms are to the right.
04:10So this is where we are this morning.
04:16So I've just got a final few tweaks before the sun does come up.
04:20I've got to get my cable release out and hopefully we'll get some nice pictures this morning.
04:26So I'm just trying to set up the camera.
04:32Focusing in the fog is really hard.
04:37So I'm struggling to get focus on having to, because there's so little contrast in the scene.
04:44So what I'm doing is focusing on the, on the shine of the water, to try and give me that
04:52point at which I can gain focus.
05:02Okay, so I'm going to spin you around so you can see what I'm seeing.
05:07So quickly off the back of the camera, this is the, this is what I'm seeing.
05:15That's my composition.
05:17And then if you look, the sun is preparing to come out on the horizon over there.
05:27If I just zoom in onto the lake, so you can see what I'm talking about.
05:40So you see the, even this camera is struggling to focus.
05:45Oh, focus on the river.
05:47That's it.
05:48You can see as the mist comes through the trees, it's quite stunning.
06:03It's 7.15 right now, and the sun is supposed to rise at about 7.23.
06:12But with the mountain in the distance there, I'd probably take a little bit longer than that.
06:17So, not long to wait now.
06:24It's absolutely incredible.
06:27The sun is just about to break over the mountain.
06:31And it is just absolutely gorgeous.
06:39Just a red ball of fire, just creeping up over the mountain.
06:42I'll try and zoom you in on this camera, so you can have a look.
07:18Absolutely stunning, stunning, stunning.
07:22Have a look at this on the back of the camera, because it's not going to work to zoom in.
07:38Just the most glorious sunrise.
07:43That's the effect of the smoke from the burning fields that has created.
07:53A scream, and the sun just, appears red like that.
08:05Absolutely stunning.
08:30So as it sun rises, it should cast more light through the trees.
08:39hopefully adding a little bit more contrast to the scene which will help make things a
08:45bit clearer and sharpen focus even more so yeah just waiting for the Sun to hit the trees now
08:57so it's going to come slightly higher above the mountain to do that
09:32okay so that's about it for this morning's photography
09:36time to pack up and head back to the hotel for a bit of breakfast I think I think we
09:42managed to get
09:43a couple of good images I think the Sun because of the smog it rose not at full brightness which
09:53meant that the light hitting the trees wasn't at the lowest level it could be to give that
10:00extra contrast to give the backlight of the trees and make them stand out more from the fog so but
10:10that being said we did get an amazing amazing sunrise so I'll process the pictures and see what we can
10:18them up with and hopefully I'll be showing you in a second some decent photos so I'll catch up you
