Snow, monasteries, and shifting light shape this second part of a winter landscape photography trip to Meteora. As the day brightens, the cloud burns off and the scene turns from dramatic conditions to clear sunshine, leaving the snow-covered mountains and monastery views to do the work. When the light becomes too flat for the ground compositions, the focus shifts to drone photography and aerial footage, with careful battery warming and a makeshift launch from the car because of stray dogs nearby.

Later, the search for a strong sunset shot leads to one of the photographer’s favorite vantage points above the valley. After feeding stray cats sheltering in a cave and waiting for the tourists to leave, he crosses slippery snowmelt and freezing edges to reach a safer composition spot. From there, the Roussanou monastery, the cliffs, and the valley open up for an epic Meteora sunset landscape, using bracketing, a soft grad filter, and a polarizing filter to balance the bright horizon and dark foreground.

Created for viewers who enjoy landscape photography, travel filmmaking, drone footage, and winter nature scenes, this Meteora video blends field technique with real-world location scouting. It’s a good watch for fans of photography workflow, monastery landscapes, Greek travel, and scenic sunset compositions.

00:00so I think after this I'll probably try and go and find another spot to
00:07photograph from although as things stand now the Sun is just going to get stronger
00:12and stronger and the cloud has pretty much been burned off so it's just going
00:17to be sunny landscapes from now on for the rest of the day but we'll see what
00:21we can get, I'll see you in a while
00:37you
01:03I think because the weather is just so fine and the sunshine is just so bright
01:08there's no not really that much drama other than the snow covering the
01:14mountains here in the monasteries so the pictures that I can take from down here
01:20are nice but they're nothing too dramatic or special so what I think I'm
01:28going to do is turn it into a little bit of a drone session and see if I can get
01:35some nice footage video and some nice images from the drone so I'll just switch
01:44out the battery and take off and see what we can see so I've set the drone up
01:56pretty much ready to go just waiting for the temperature to rise the batteries but
02:03I can't actually launch from the road because there's a couple of stray dogs
02:06here that I'm worried about either scaring them or then jumping on the drone so I've
02:13had to put the drone on the top of the car there's a launch pad hopefully that'll be
02:19okay and we'll see what happens when I come in to land later
02:26but for the moment I'm just waiting for the temperature of the batteries to go up a bit
02:31because it's too cold to launch safely
02:39and once I've done that we'll see what pictures and video we can get
02:44and then we'll see what happens when there's been a roll out of the car
03:06and it's too cold and then we can catch up with the speed to have a little bit more
03:13of a used to worry about the day so let's see what happens when there's been a
04:04So I've come up to one of my favourite vantage points for sunset photos.
04:13At Matera but it's clouded over and it's a pretty bleak landscape at the minute and pretty
04:28flat light.
04:30So I'll hang on for a while and see if I can get anything, see if the light changes by
04:36the time the sun goes down.
04:38I've still got a couple of hours probably until the sun does go down.
04:41And in the meantime I noticed when I came up earlier that there was a bunch of cats here,
04:49stray cats.
04:51And with the cold weather I'm sure they're starving so I've got them some food.
04:57I'm just going to put it down somewhere for them.
05:00They're living in a little cave just up here.
05:04So I'll put it near the cave and see the cave where they're at.
05:14Just in there.
05:15Just in there.
05:16Just in there.
05:45Just in there.
05:45Kind of a feed.
05:49Okay so now the cats have been fed.
05:53Tourists have gone.
05:57and I have probably an hour or so, maybe more until the sun goes down and for me to set
06:09up any kind of shot so it's a little bit precarious because of the snow melt and the freezing
06:22and has made the edge where I would normally set the tripod up a little bit slippery, so
06:35I'm trying to get up this bit of a mound without breaking my neck.
07:02Okay, as you can see here, this is what I couldn't see this morning, the snow has melted off that,
07:13that would have been a bit dangerous to fall down through this crack. Now I can jump over
07:22from one boulder to the other and that is one of the best sunset locations for Meteora.
07:44So that's the Rusanu Monastery just down there, the convent and the sun should be setting beyond
07:52those mountains there. Hopefully in about an hour's time, through the gap in the rocks just
08:02in front of us. So I'll set the tripod up, get a composition set and I might even fly the
08:18drone as well. So back with you in a minute.
08:51I've been waiting for about half an hour so there's about 20 minutes left probably before
08:56the sun does dip behind those clouds and over the further peaks that you can see in the distance
09:02there. I've set up my composition here which is just a straight shot of the valley with the
09:11Rusanu Monastery which you can see just down there and the rocks here with the sunset behind. So it should
09:20make a nice composition. Quite an epic looking shot. My exposure is ISO 160 at f8, 30th of a second
09:30which I'm bracketing to make allowance for the fact that the valley here is quite dark and the horizon is
09:38quite bright.
09:40Using a 2 second timer to take the picture. I've also got on the front of the camera a 3
09:50stop soft grad filter to darken down the clouds in the distance there.
09:55As well as a polarizing filter to try and bring out some of the details in those clouds because the
09:59light is a little bit flat.
10:02So hopefully that will do the trick and give me a nice shot. Just a question of waiting now for
10:09the sun to reach its lowest point and hopefully give me a few beams of light coming through the clouds
10:14as it sets.
10:18In the meantime I shall bid you goodbye. Hopefully you'll be seeing these pictures in just a second but my
10:24batteries on this little camera here is about to run out so I better say goodbye right now whilst I
10:31still can.
10:33I'd like to thank you all for watching. I hope you do like this video. Please subscribe to the channel,
10:39ring the bell for notifications.
10:41There's lots more coming up very soon. From here tomorrow I am driving up northwest of here to a mountain
10:49range called the Pindos Mountains to a group of villages called the Zagorohoria.
10:53And they are truly truly stunning villages and the landscape around them is quite magnificent so it should hopefully produce
11:03some nice images from there as well.
11:05So I hope you join me for that in the next video.
11:08Thanks for watching again and I'll see you next time. Cheers, bye.
11:24Cheers, bye.
