00:18one of dozens of sites where health care workers, researchers and students
00:22took part in a national mobilization against federal cuts to health care and public health.
00:27Actions were held from Boston to Philadelphia to Minneapolis, Denver, Boise and California,
00:34with protests continuing into the weekend outside the National Institutes of Health near Washington.
00:43I had a grant that was funding my postdoctoral research and that was terminated.
00:50The protests come as changes from President Trump's signature 2025 tax and spending law
00:55begin reaching the health care system.
00:58The Congressional Budget Office projects roughly $1.2 trillion less in Medicaid spending over the next decade,
01:05while federal medical research funding has also slowed sharply.
01:09When we are cutting research funding, particularly for the health of marginalized communities,
01:14that is only going to serve to further entrench inequities because it means the communities who most need new interventions,
01:22new treatments, new prevention programs and health equity efforts are now not going to get those interventions
01:26because the research funding them is falling apart.
01:29Meanwhile, you're talking many states, the price of the marketplace plans have increased and you already had have less people
01:38enrolled in them for this coming year than we had last year.
01:43And that's on top of people who are losing Medicaid.
01:46This is just setting up every finding every hospital that serves people who are uninsured and on Medicaid just up
01:53for financial disaster.
01:54The Big Beautiful Bill reduced projected federal revenues by roughly $4.6 trillion over a decade.
