00:09It's $20 million less overall than the max would have paid him, so he could have made
00:16$136 million, instead he's making $116 million, so he saves the Warriors $10 million this year

00:23What does that mean?
00:24I don't know.
00:25I don't know what it means.
00:27It's an extra $10 million.
00:29I know that, but outside of that, we have no idea how the Warriors are going to try to
00:36utilize that.
00:37Yeah, I just did some calculations.
00:39If I'm correct, Stiney, this will put Steph's career earnings damn near over $600 million,

00:46But I will say this.
00:48We did the exercise last week, and I'm a little, I mean, you can sense the trepidation in my
00:55voice, because you went over next year's free agent class, and I'm always the guy saying
01:02relationships like a Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum or Jalen Brown versus Celtics happen out
01:08of nowhere, and can you prounce on that opportunity?
01:12And teams in all sports do that.
01:14But what if those situations don't turn rotten and are not available?
01:19I mean, you really just put, you didn't even know it.
01:22You just were a fuddy-duddy to what I thought Mike Dunleavy and Joe Laker would have at their
01:29disposal in regard to players.
01:31And I just felt like, you know, the guys that you were reading off are not Allen Iverson
01:38in the sense that they're not answers.
01:40And I'm just wondering, hopefully some relationships sour and guys become available.

01:49And we'll see what Mike Dunleavy can do.
01:51But my fear as a lifelong Warrior fan is what they need, and it's with an S, may not be

01:58there, and then what's that mean in the whole grand scheme of things?

02:44But, you know, now the expectation is it's going to happen, that they're going to be able
02:48to add to this roster either at the trade deadline or at next year.

03:42If you told me that he's going to be upright for the play-in or playoffs each of those seasons,

03:51But if he's not like he was last year, you know, he came back, but it was too late, then
03:56that's where you got problems.
03:57But I don't want to run anybody out of town, and I'm going to fight the fight for the dubs
04:01this year and see, you know, and I already bought into Porzingis, and I've been let down already.
04:07And I know it's not one regular season game, but with what he's battling, this is very, not bizarre.
04:14I mean, this is like, wow, this is a gut punch.
04:16But with that said, Draymond Green, if this season doesn't get off to a good start and you have the
04:24ability to trade him to a contender when you realize you might not be one, what young infusion of talent
04:31could you get that way?
04:32The Jimmy Butler thing, you know, what's going on there?
04:35But I just, I am concerned with what I thought was the black NBA American Express card the Warriors were
04:41going to have, and with this money that Steph left on the table, that they were going to be able
04:46to go get a Bentley or look at the Rolls-Royce section.
04:49And now I don't think that, and why that has me down just a tad bit, partner, is they need
04:55that to change the fortune of this team right now with what has left of Steph's career.

05:12I would absolutely positively take that right now.
05:16Does that mean he's available, with my caveat, every year for play-in time and play-off time?

05:25He was ready for the playoffs two years ago, and he got hurt.
05:29And then last year, he missed a chunk of games, and he came back for the playoffs.
05:35Or not playoffs, he came back late in the season, and had a hell of a game against the Clippers,
05:42and then wasn't very good against the Suns.
05:44How's he going to react in back-to-backs?
05:48Are they even going to play him in back-to-backs?
05:50How are they going to address his knee?
05:55I was saying this on Saturday with Sam and Bonte.
06:00It's like, you know, this new normal, I have no idea what it looks like.
06:05For all we know, it could be, maybe the best thing is he plays three weeks,
06:10and then he takes a week off.

06:53but if I were to ask you right now with what's happened with Curry's contract,
06:56what they have available, what's going to reset after this season,

07:03Well, first of all, if you're going to say, you know,
07:06what if they're not good enough with Steph,
07:09then this is going to be a big problem, the contract.
07:12Because if you're telling me that, you know, Steph's playing okay,
07:16and they're still not a playoff team, I don't know what to tell you.
07:25Like, the bare minimum is, if you expect Steph to play 60 games,
07:32you better make the playoffs at that point.
07:34I don't even know, like, I don't even know what you would do at that point
07:38if they win 38 games this year, Steph plays 62, he's pretty good, he's okay,
07:46maybe not quite the player he was five years ago,
07:50but still playing at a pretty good level, but they don't make the playoffs,
07:53then what do you do the next year?

07:57Like, you know, why would you want to bring Butler and Draymond back
08:02if it was a 38-win team and Steph was pretty healthy?
08:05It would seem to me at that point, then you've got to entertain anything and everything.

08:50Jimmy Butler said he's way ahead of schedule.
08:55So, he says that, I know that I will return, still being able to play at a high level.
09:02All right, so Butler's feeling good about where he's at.
09:07Somebody asked Butler about, would you come back and play even though it's an expiring deal?
09:15And vintage Jimmy's saying the right things.
09:18He said, I've made a couple buckaroos in my year in the league, so it ain't even about money.
09:24To me, it's always going to be about winning.
09:26When you win, that contract stuff takes care of itself.
09:30All right, we'll see what happens in February.
09:32Those are words, but my gosh, those are words your boy over here needed to hear.
09:35I'm giving him dap through the, through the right, through the microphone.

09:45I'll believe it when I see it with Jimmy Butler.

09:54Steph was asked about taking $10 million less per year with his extension and what he hopes to get out
10:01of it.
10:02And his answer was, without knowing the answers to the test, it was my best way to study for it.
10:08I guess what he means there is, there are no guarantees that they'll be able to utilize, you know, the
10:15savings.
10:16But the way they explained it to him, clearly they believe that they've convinced him that it will help.
10:25And we'll see if it does or not, next offseason or at the trading deadline.

10:38So we talked about it a lot, about him taking the max.
10:42On a scale, Stine, 1 to 10, 10 being the highest.
10:45Him taking the 1, 16, 58, and leaving the 20 million.

11:21And, but, look, he, three years is a long, long time.
11:32And now he's got to stay healthy for three years.
11:35He really does because his, you know, his money is still representative of 25 plus percent of the entire cap.
11:44So, it all starts and stops with Steph Curry.
11:49He has to play.
11:51And he's got to play consistently.
11:53And he's got to play at a high level.
11:56Because he's making so much money this late in his career.
12:01So, it's kind of scary because it wasn't said like that about Jimmy.
12:05But it ended up being that way with the dice they rolled for Jimmy Butler.
12:10And what changed?
12:11And a lot changed.
12:12And their fortune for the better.
12:14But you saw, you know, the bad in regard to what you had to pay price-wise on the basketball
12:23court when he got hurt.
12:27So, obviously, I'm stating the obvious.
12:29It's imperative that he stay healthy.
12:31But I'm just thinking about Jimmy and when they paid him and what they thought and how long they thought
12:36they would have a shot.
12:38And that kind of just went down the drain when he got hurt.
12:41Yeah, the other thing on the new Curry contract, he's got a player option for the last year of the
12:47deal in 2028, 2029, which will be, you know, $58, $59 million.
12:53He'll be able to determine whether he opts in or not.
13:00So, he'll have control over it on the last year of his deal when he's 40.
