The Bunyip didn’t need to chase you.
According to Aboriginal Australian traditions, it was associated with billabongs, swamps, and deep waterholes—the kind of dark water where you couldn’t see what waited beneath the surface. Descriptions changed from place to place, but the warning remained terrifyingly simple:
Stay away from dangerous water… because some who entered never came back out.
