00:23Before the sun and moon were charged to count the days, no sky crowned the land below and
00:29no flesh and thought lingered in the emptiness of Ginnun Agap, the void of everything.
00:35To the sides of Ginnun Agap were the realms of elemental fire and elemental frost, Muspelheim
00:43and Niflheim, respectively.
00:46To imagine either is to see the world around you made from a single thing in its purest
00:52form.
00:53The fires of Muspelheim raged and roared unchecked, while the freezing wasteland of Niflheim stood
01:01silent and unstirred, its clear skies shimmering with frost.
01:06By chance or intent, the fires of Muspelheim spread from its blazing home, and the ice
01:13of Niflheim crawled from its cold prison.
01:16Their only path was towards Ginnun Agap.
01:20In the middle of the void, the hottest and unchained flames licked and struck the coldest and harshest
01:27frost.
01:28An explosion of water followed, creating nothing into something.
01:33The first being to ever exist filled the black expanse with the first scream of birth.
01:39This creature was called Ymir, the Screamer.
01:43A being both man and woman, a giant so massive that only the world could rival its glory.
01:50Under its skin of eternal frost, beat a heart like a red furnace, spreading the flames of Muspelheim
01:57throughout the giant's veins.
01:59As Ymir wandered Ginnun Agap, a cloud of vapour followed him, and ice melted from its pores
02:07in great waterfalls.
02:09Every night, when Ymir slept, creatures such as giants were washed out from its pores and
02:15birthed into existence.
02:18One of these creatures was the celestial cow, Adhumla, who found nourishment in the salty
02:24ice of Ymir's skin, who in turn, supped upon the cow's milk.
02:29As the cow licked, a new being, the first of the Isar gods, Uri, cracked free from Ymir's
02:37skin and inhaled for the first time.
02:40Uri became known as the forefather of all Isar.
02:44His grandson Odin, along with his brothers, wandered the void in the puddles and clouds of
02:50Ymir, a being as bright and hot as the sun, but as uncaring and indifferent to those around
02:57as the coldest glacier.
03:00Ymir trampled as many as it created, but paid neither thought nor attention.
03:06Odin, the heir of the Isar, saw the pain of those around the senseless destruction and felt
03:12sorrow for the giant's victims.
03:14An end had to be put to the chaos and order brought into existence.
03:20Thus, Odin hatched a plan along with his brothers, Vili and Vey, to fell the giant and build a
03:27home to its neglected offspring.
03:31Ymir possessed strength beyond all of its creations combined a thousand fold, but its mind was
03:37no more than that of a massive insect.
03:39The three Isar brothers struck from three directions, tearing holes into Ymir from whence the fires
03:47of Musbelheim burst into Ginnunagap, as they did during the giant's birth.
03:53Ymir screamed and swung in blind confusion, but could do nothing against the overwhelming
03:58assault, then finally fell in a pile of sputtering pieces of ice and molten flame.
04:04From the body parts of Ymir, the three brothers created the world, Midgard, which sprang into
04:12life instantly from the giant's fertile essence.
04:16They created the seas from his blood, the mountains from his bones, stones from his teeth, the sky
04:23from his skull, and the clouds from his brain.
04:27Four dwarfs held up his skull, and it became the heavens, and his eyebrows became the fence
04:33surrounding Midgard, the home of mankind.
04:37As the world grew, so were the first mortals created from an elm and an ash, called Embla
04:43and Ask.
04:45Once all was in good order, the Isar built their home above the clouds, to watch and govern
04:51over their creation, and in this realm, they built their great hall, Valhalla.
04:58Midgard's days were tranquil and uneventful, as all living things flourished and the Isar
05:04multiplied.
05:31All night.
