00:38we'd get to the actual offseason for this uh wardy i'm gonna let you take here first i know you

00:45live in your channel but what was your reaction to the news i was in complete shock i was about
00:51to hit
00:51record and do a video today on some other topics not as relevant regarding the mets right now but
00:56the final topic in my conversation i was planning to do was regarding the latest pieces coming out
01:02and you know trying to break down and you know make some sense of what's going on with andy green
01:07in
01:07his future because in the remarks i shared for the past 24 to 48 hours it have been interesting it's
01:13kind of felt like the door has actually been open and what initially was a closed opportunity for him
01:18to be anything but you know in the front office once we got to the 2027 season so when i
01:24look down
01:24on my phone and see the news today i'm like wow okay so a lot of immediate thoughts come to
01:29my head
01:30right away and i want to talk a lot about you about this with you dex and everyone watching live
01:34and replay let us know your thoughts in the comments down below regarding this news as andy's
01:38officially steam put as mets manager because on one hand it comes with excitement and on another hand
01:43it comes with definitely cautious optimism and when we get into that caution about cautious optimism i think
01:48you know exactly what i'm going to talk about but first and foremost what was your initial reaction
01:53outside of being shocked and ultimately do you think that this is the right raw move for the new
02:00york mets at the time of us talking september 22nd an hour and a half fresh from it being broken
02:05right here right now dex is this the right or wrong move for david stearns first of all i'm gonna

02:11honest i don't like it i don't like i don't okay there we go that's a take that just statement
02:17straight to it i don't like it and the reason i don't like it is i don't like the approach
02:22of this
02:23this is my problem it doesn't mean i don't like it i'm not doubling down on my words doesn't mean
02:27i don't like andy green doesn't mean i don't think he can be a fine manager doesn't mean all of
02:31that
02:31this move feels very mets ish right what i would have liked to have seen the mets do i wanted

02:38green to get a real shot if they liked him i think that's more than fair we've talked about that

02:42the show however i think it's best whenever you're doing any kind of hiring to go through the process
02:48of the candidates seek a diverse group of candidates from different backgrounds doesn't have to be always
02:54an experienced manager but i've liked to have seen some experienced managers interview for this
02:58maybe see what they would bring different from andy green the mets didn't even do that they didn't
03:04even give this a chance to open this up and have a real coaching search and that's what we were
03:08told
03:10steve cohen said this he said they would do a real coaching search he said this excuse me to our
03:16john
03:16hayman and joel sherman on the show said we're gonna have a real coaching search we're gonna do this
03:21and then we don't get the coaching search how does that not feel very mets ish again that's not i
03:28don't
03:28want to say i don't want to sidestep your question wordy i don't want to sit here and say i
03:33know
03:34exactly how this move is going to work out i have no idea none of y'all out there have
03:37any idea we
03:37none of us know how good of a manager andy green is going to be or not going to be
03:41i like the way
03:42he's handled young players i like the way he's handled the interim role but here's the thing you're
03:48now taking a manager who's an interim manager that handled it well now with no pressure we talked
03:53about players being able to play with no pressure here right wardy now next season if there is
03:59baseball is going to be a pressure cooker this team has not made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons
04:05that doesn't mean that andy green can't lead them there i'm not saying that all i'm saying is why
04:12and this is the question i would have for david stearns and steve cohen why did you not open it

04:18and have a real managerial search like you said you were going to what changed are you going to
04:25tell me just what we saw from andy green in the second half that changed which i liked but i
04:29don't
04:30know how he's going to handle it and there's a difference in the job when you're interim manager
04:34managing when the team's out of it and then when you're going to manage in 2027 when there's real
04:39expectations and there's a lot of anger and vitriol from the mets fan base that if this doesn't get done
04:44in 2027 they're going to want to see heads roll and so i don't like the process here is what
04:50i'm
04:50saying i do not like the process of how the mets handled it i think they should have been truthful
04:56to what they said they were going to do and had a real managerial search i hope that it works

05:02it can work out i'm not down on this 100 just don't like the process if that makes sense
05:09dex i felt like i was watching myself throughout some of that rant i i really really that was a
05:14rant okay i thought it was i thought it was a good rant i think it was a straightforward breakdown

05:19to why you have your criticisms with this and you know what i 100 agree with you on is you
05:24know the
05:25aspect of you know buying in maybe too much into what andy is doing when there is a lack of
05:30pressure
05:31and a lack of expectation this year uh as i was breaking down to my live show on wardy and
05:35wham i was
05:35saying the same exact thing how i was comparing the pros and the cons of the situation and part of
05:40the cons is it's not a slight on andy but it's a reality that you know he hasn't managed this
05:44club
05:45yet with any level of expectation and in doing so how is the team going to respond not only to
05:50that
05:50expectation but also their first true levels of adversity because under andy green we already knew
05:56that their season was essentially painted already so it made it easier i think for a lot of players to
06:01buy in especially post-traded line knowing the season is a wash is what it is
06:05whereas how do they handle next year and the full 162 in the episode flows that come along with it
06:10will they be able to come together not crumble the way that the mets did with their 12 game losing
06:15streak this season where it felt like no matter who was out there no matter what was being said by
06:19carlos mendoza it was just not getting through to the players you know we see some remarks already
06:24that i'm seeing from some fantastic reporters in the media including our friend will salmon and we're
06:28seeing from mets players themselves when asked what would they like in a manager for the mets
06:32for their searches off season and many players stated andy simply put uh so this is definitely
06:37one of those things that it's in response to steve cohen seeing the type of immediate impact that
06:45andy has had on this club and i think dex your main problem with this is actually thinking that what
06:50the mets say is always going to hold true and there's one thing that goes in hand with mets fandom
06:55and
06:55us covering them over the years is that you have to take a lot of what they say solely at
06:59face value
06:59and nothing more because you don't know exactly that's going to be the truth the same way how
07:05people who actually bought in a david stern saying in the first month of the year that carlos mendoza
07:09wasn't going anywhere and i wasn't taking any questions about mendy and his future it's just
07:14again the jokes write themselves sometimes without they teed up because they don't teed up well
07:19because we all see from a mile away and the any green thing is not necessarily something i saw from
07:23a mile away about something that was becoming more of a possibility with a success that he's having
07:28and also the comfortability so let's get into the multiple layers as to how we got here right
07:33dex because it goes in hand with steve cohen having enough i think this is very important to realize
07:39what steve was stating to john and joel here on the new york post a couple months ago was true
07:44then
07:45but what's also true though is that when you see a club come together and you see the mets having
07:51a
07:51lack of unity and a lack of stability under cohen i'm sure steve looks at that and looks at the
07:56players buying into annie veterans included with guys like soto lindor bichette alike and i think if
08:03you're steve cohen with how low the bar has been and with how much there has been turmoil you know
08:08if it ain't broke why fix it you know why do the mets want to go through another full process
08:14of going after coaches and an offseason as well that's having a lockout pending that means that
08:20it'll throw a massive wrench into also their player pursuits to begin the offseason there's a lot that goes
08:25into this and i do think that the lockout was a factor behind it not the sole factor but i
08:30think
08:30it made it easier and more palatable for steve cohen and david stern to say themselves if we have
08:36something working here and the players are clearly buying in why should we deviate away from that if
08:41this is something that could actually lead us to success so that's what they're buying into when we
08:45look at what andy has done this second half and yes there's an asterisk to what he has done because
08:50doing what he has done with the lack of pressure in this market can't be viewed as the same thing
08:55as to having success in the first half next year when all the pressure is on you right do you
09:00handle that pressure and you have success awesome and if you don't then maybe it further proves our
09:05point that maybe we bought in a little too soon you know what i mean so there will be time
09:09to allow
09:10this leash to be given to andy he deserves that with the success he's had down the stretch here but
09:16i also think unofficially officially there are some things that the mets know that we don't know
09:24publicly including the increasingly obvious alex core to be the philadelphia phillies manager in
09:292027 right when we think about having the managerial search and having the interview process one does
09:36have to wonder is that at all factor behind this because that's one of the first things i thought of
09:41it wasn't just missing out on an alex core it was is he already unofficially available unavailable like
09:48has that kind of been the industry belief i've talked to people going back to the all-star break
09:52and every single person i talked to said they fully expect him to be manager of phillies however
09:56those same people i talked to also said that they would be shocked if carlos beltron
10:00wasn't skipper than new york mets in 2027 so with that being said you got to take your information
10:06how much i should be buying him because things change and i do think that if andy green had
10:12maybe a more of a mediocre second half here with the new york mets not only would he not be
10:16signed as
10:18the official manager but i think that that would have allowed him a more open door to the experiment
10:23that comes with beltron not an experiment in the sense of being a fantastic baseball savant but truly
10:29an experiment in the sense of another first-time manager and is that really the route the mets want to
10:34go down i think andy just played every card beautifully in the second half and i think
10:39the way that he articulates himself dexter and how he's able to not only discuss to the players
10:44what the expectation is and what the role is but also how that is related to the front office and
10:49steve cohen himself listen dex i got a chance to meet andy and had a nice one-on-one with
10:53him in
10:53the mets dugout at the game we attended and alonso's return this past week and even in that late two
10:58minute interaction i'm talking about the success he's had so far and how i'm looking forward to what's next
11:02for him you could just tell that he really does take the time with every single person that he
11:06talks to and i think that goes a long way when the mets have had the turmoil that they've had
11:11and there's been a lack of clarity from manager from front office giving you the same four five six
11:18worded sentences of answers every single time i think they're just something about the straightforwardness
11:23and andy from a player mindset that also has one in hand with why steve cohen is really buying into
11:29him so i i get the buy-in i get all the good stuff you've seen from andy i do
11:34and i see the check
11:36marks and it is we also have to be honest it's a small sample size this was a player we'd
11:42be saying
11:42the same thing again that's not me knocking andy green and i don't know you are here i know what
11:48i'm
11:49knocking is the process right that's what i'm knocking here and if you're gonna do a hiring search
11:55and you said you know and we'll wait because we're gonna get comments we're gonna hear andy green
11:59at his at his presser at the top of the hour and we'll hear what andy green says and we'll
12:04have more
12:04reaction for you guys on that later in the week but i also want to hear from david searns and
12:08steve
12:08cohen which is my big question is okay and i'm sure somebody's gonna ask this sure one of our great
12:12writers will ask this why did you decide to change the process what did you see in you know since
12:19mendoza was fired that overwhelmed you with andy green and you're right there are things internally
12:26that teams see that we don't see in the media that fans don't see on the day-to-day and
12:33sure i can like
12:34all the stuff that he did with the young talent and the way he relayed the message and do i
12:38think it
12:38matters that the players wanted him yes i do you you know you know you should listen to sometimes your
12:44employees if you're a boss you might want to do that it's like when the majority of the room is
12:48saying
12:49we want things this way and then you favor the minority you shouldn't be surprised when things
12:53don't go the way that you were hoping you know but i i just wonder i'm going to wonder sometimes
13:01you should also want to just cast a wide net look around a little bit get a little bit of
13:08difference
13:08we talked the other day when we were doing a show we were talking about how with david stearns
13:12how maybe there's just too many stearns guys too many yes men in the room right right sometimes you
13:18need different ideas coming in for the inside the outside this is what i mean about just diversity
13:23in the way you hire and i think that matters here and i'm a little disappointed with the mets for
13:28not
13:28doing that in this search and if they still came back to the conclusion of andy green i would have
13:32said
13:32okay that's fine but they did their due diligence this feels like they didn't do their due diligence
13:39they just went on vibes of being like hey we like receiving andy green we're gonna go with it and
13:44i'm not saying that's never worked for anybody we've seen this work for other teams where they
13:48got a little information we've seen the braves do it but they're we've seen this we've seen this
13:52before it's nice that it's just some continuity within the organization but what i will say is
13:58as much as we can say next year that david stearns is on the hot seat
14:04whoo y'all had carl's mendoza on the hot seat if things don't get up especially with the future
14:10and all these other guys like think about albert pojos was on mlb network saying i want to be
14:16manager of the new york mets and he said i don't know if he's going to be a good manager
14:19either
14:20and correct but here's here's the point this is a results-oriented business naturally so
14:25if albert gets hired by a club when core gets hired by a club whether it's the fillies or whoever
14:30if those guys do laps around the new york mets and annie green next year how do you think it's
14:35good it's going to resonate how do you think yeah like i we could take it we could we could
14:40take a
14:40wild guess you know and it will not it will not bode well and it will just further um validate
14:46what
14:46you're stating and ultimately i think that is what would lead to the axing of someone like david
14:50stearns yeah i just again just to be clear i i do not know exactly how this is going to
14:57play out
14:58um i can tell you what i think i can give you my opinion all that good stuff but i
15:04cannot tell you
15:05i know exactly that this is going to be i can't say it's a bad move i cannot also say
15:10that it is a
15:10great move i cannot say any of those things um i have just critiques with the process and we will
15:19see how this all plays out we it'll be very interesting to see how it plays out um just want
15:25to get to a couple comments before we bring a guest who's going to be joining us here uh shortly
15:28uh we've got this here from pantries once it makes sense the braves did the same thing with
15:33snicker who's closely working with the young players in the minors green is the perfect person
15:36right now to lead this team and develop the young talent pantries also adds we will have a ton of
15:42them on the roster next season between benji and mcclain scott thornton and possibly rojas and tong
15:48i understand those points how does it how do how do the players deal with the pressure
15:52how does andy green deal with the pressure those are all going to be questions that we are going to
15:57have to look at we also have another comment here from matt sodio sodio plan peon sorry he brought this
16:05trash team from garbage of plus 500 he knows handpicked development all our young talent good move
16:09great move okay you're saying it with your trust it's saying it's great it's a great move i don't think
16:15any of us know that there the addition of a gm that can has experience in pro scouting with addition
16:20of a manager with superior iron relationship to with our young players is the move here i will i
16:25do want to respond to that you've talked about this warden you talked about yesterday i know you'd like
16:30to see a gm in here i do think bringing in another voice there that has maybe that connection in
16:35the
16:35relationship between stearns green and whoever the gm is i do think that matters and i really do
16:41think he would have been gm if he was a manager i i do think that too we talked about
16:47that yeah what's
16:48your thoughts on that i think he would have been a good choice for gm because of the same reasons
16:54that uh pantries brought up right the connection between the young players i would have been fine
16:58with that he also already had the front office experience and that's one thing that's a move that
17:02kind of got taken off the board and see in that kind of hire if they'd went that way with
17:07the gm i
17:07still think all the searches they should have made broad but if they had went that way i would
17:11have understood that one a little bit more just because he has he's got some you know managerial
17:15experience but a little bit more in the front office um but here's here's what we're going to
17:20do let us bring in we have i want to hear somebody else's point of view beside ours we've given

17:50what do you make of this i'm shocked in the sense that they did not go into the off season
17:57and i think like you said earlier from what i heard earlier cast a little bit of a wide net
18:02because of the fact that andy green had already said that he was going to stay in the front office
18:08he didn't want to be manager so i didn't feel like we were going to lose him like automatically if
18:13they
18:14decided to wait a little bit and try to see if they could find something else or if they eventually
18:20went back to andy green at the end anyway i thought it was uh maybe a little bit premature to
18:24do this but
18:25i saw that also the red sox uh took the interim tag off of chad tracy today as well so
18:30maybe that
18:32gave them a little bit of motivation to do that i know the red sox are actually going to go
18:35to the
18:36playoffs we're not but you know maybe that that uh had a little bit to do with it maybe not
18:40so much
18:42i see i do think that part's different right when you have this track record in the second half
18:47and the red sox who turned their season around and are going to the playoffs that is different than
18:52yes getting a team above 500 pace yes playing good down the stretch yes playing some exciting
18:58ball i'm you're with me maybe not as vociferous as me but you're with me that you would have liked
19:04to have seen them cast a wider net does this move to you feel a little bit what i said
19:09mets-ish
19:10in that warty always uses the term proactive and i felt like maybe you can say this is proactive
19:16but in some degree i think it would have been proactive to cast a wide net
19:22yeah i i agree on i kind of agree on both ends i i think it was proactive of them
19:28to get this done
19:28now but also would have been proactive to do that both can be correct uh that that they could have
19:34did it that way as well it's just i think when it comes down to what the mets were deciding
19:39here and
19:40i was reading the article of will salmon on the athletic you know he talked about uh how the players
19:46and and and the the the front office appreciated the way he communicated with the players they
19:54the the trust that the players had built in him obviously uh one of the big things that i liked
19:58from andy green was the way he handled the media so far this year um and also you know the
20:03way that
20:04he pushed a lot of the players a lot of the young guys because you know he's the one that
20:07was with
20:08them in player development we saw uh him push zach thornton to pitch extra ratings you've seen
20:12him stick with guys like carson benj and um aj ewing especially through aj ewing slump so the fact
20:19that he's able to do that i i think that that was a big part of that a lot of
20:24the players see him as a
20:25leader and that goes a long way i mean you got to have a guy that you like in here
20:29i i thought carlos
20:30mendoza was that guy after 2024 and it just seemed to fade away from from that point on and we
20:36were just
20:36scratching our heads most of this season until they got rid of him of what he was doing and
20:41and andy green just seems to be the total opposite of that which uh i feel like is a part
20:46of the
20:47reason why uh he is going to be the manager i will say this too that um whoever now that
20:53they bring in
20:54for player development i would assume has to be somewhat andy greenish i mean the way that he is
21:00that kind of that hub between how to handle the major league talent and how to handle the youth of
21:09the
21:09core and those guys that are in the minor leagues i think that's very important whereas if you bring
21:15in a guy like let's say uh warty mentioned uh albert pujos i mean he's only known well if you
21:21see him in
21:22the wbc i mean the guy's managing stars like that's a complete roster of stars that he's managing we don't
21:27know how he can manage the other guys but you know still being said i i would have liked to
21:32have seen
21:33more of uh like you said a net at least through the offseason um especially with you know like i
21:39said
21:39with with andy green really not saying that he would leave the organization or he just wanted to spend
21:46more time with his family and be in player development so i have a lot of questions surrounding exactly
21:52how he got here with the mets in the sense of alex cora carlos beltron albert pujos and a lot
21:59of
21:59other guys are either on the bench or you know in different facets of different coaching staffs i
22:04wonder how much the mets deep dive those areas already and came to the conclusion that you know
22:09we already feel like we have such a guaranteed thing here that the um reward here is outweighing
22:16the uh risk factor you know and obviously going now to hang the market again i think that was a
22:21factor behind this too i think of that i think naturally the lockout as i was saying you dex i
22:25wonder
22:26how much does that go in hand with this at all um with the lack of you know having an
22:30entire off
22:30season to go about a thorough search maybe the way that you would otherwise want to can't really do
22:34that while also trying to prioritize player acquisition simultaneously at the start of the
22:39offseason for the you know couple weeks a month gap that they're going to have um so i look at
22:44that i
22:44also look at a mets team and steve cohen that feels like steve put his foot down on this you
22:49know i
22:49think steve really felt from the fan base and from those alike and the organization just the
22:54disappointment this year and how you know it's basically put up or shut up time like we're half
22:58decade in ownership now we have really failed to meet expectations and um the more that we've
23:03entrusted david stearns the more that he has gone at ron to this point so i think that this is
23:07also
23:08steve likely looking at this and saying hey this is working the players clearly want him um we're going
23:13to continue to be a team filled with youth moving forward because that is part of the david stearns
23:18way if there's any good pages they took out of the brewers playbook it's to build rosters that have a
23:23healthy balance of bringing up young talents every single season and having them infect your lineup
23:27or your rotation positively throughout the course of the year and andy has this perfect blend as a
23:32former player as obviously a coach in the front office where he is able to share perspectives
23:37that calls mendoza just can't to the same degree and it's not that carls wasn't a professional player
23:42too because he was but also not having the same impact that you know you look at player development
23:47and especially guys who are going to be mainstays here moving forward like let's think about what
23:53any green has done in a positive impact with not only the rotation from zach thornton christian scott
23:59who we raved heavily about at the inception of him becoming interim manager this year to the continued
24:04dominance of noah mclean and the excitement that comes to jonathan and the santucci's of the world to
24:08the aj ewings and the carson men just like these are all guys that god willing will be here for
24:12at
24:12least the next half decade right so if you're the mets you want someone that they're really going
24:17to buy into and clearly the buying has been a massive factor behind the lack of consistent success
24:23for this organization because we just watched in real time this year a mets roster that really hasn't
24:28changed in the sense of upgrading much in any manner from when mendoza was fired to andy now as
24:34manager and you're seeing the drastic difference in the way that the team carries themselves even in
24:39losses even in stretches where they're not playing their best it has not felt like a club that's
24:44dragged their feet to the same degree and yes the lack of pressure is a factor behind that but i
24:49also
24:49think that you do need to give a level of credit to any there and the way that he's been
24:53able to have
24:54this rapport with players that i think is to your point anthony very contrasting from what carlos
25:00mendoza was doing previously at the hound yeah it's it's going to be interesting i want to get some

25:57stern's move here and that maybe cohen did put a little bit of his foot down here and said hey
26:02the vibes are good let's just rock with this guy do you think that's more of steve cohen's way in
26:07that because i i didn't even think about that possibility but i could see that i think it's a
26:12little bit of both because didn't didn't david stearns bring in andy green correct so he has to he had
26:19to have i would assume look andy doesn't want to be manager how can we get him to this point

26:26like like what do we have to offer him to make him you know want to be the manager and

26:33also posted in his article that the fact that he wanted to spend time with his family but now his
26:39daughters are are in the later stages of high school getting ready to graduate uh this year and
26:45the fact that you know we don't know if we're going to be starting baseball on time right we we
26:51might not
26:51have the start of the season as early as possible so maybe those factors maybe they were able to
26:56convince him to say look we we really want you to be the manager of this team like we like
27:01the way
27:02you've been doing this what is it going to take and i'm pretty sure stearns and cohen kind of work
27:07together on that that portion yeah i i i could actually i could actually see that um i don't listen
27:14there's gonna be the folks i know there's gonna be something out there and i'm not seeing that much
27:19in the chat but there's gonna be some people that are like you should have gone with a bigger name
27:23you should have went and got alice cora you should have tried to get it i will say this even
27:28though i
27:29have criticism for the process this isn't the safe pick they could have been safe and said hey we're
27:37gonna go bigger name or nobody if we don't get a cora we want somebody to fans beltran which is
27:43someone
27:43who that's a safe thing you you liked beltran anthony i think i've talked to you about this
27:48before warty and i were for beltran to be the next manager of this team and i i don't disagree

27:54you to some degree beltran would have been a safe pick it would have had the backing of the fan

28:12i don't see him becoming the manager of this team who knows could he possibly be the general manager

28:24wonder if
28:24that's a possibility that happens and i i think a lot of met fans from what i've seen on x

28:30than willing to give andy green this opportunity because if you talk about the managers that were
28:36available obviously alex core is the big name uh do you try to convince dusty baker to come back
28:42because the mets have had this thing over the last couple decades they go with experience manager they
28:46go with a new one experience new experience and you look at the crop here and outside of beltran who
28:52hasn't had managerial experience um we talked about core and dusty baker pujos wbc that i mean i don't know
29:00how much you want to put on on managing the wbc you had yadier molina as well as a name
29:04uh there's
29:05there's a lot of catchers that that become managers as well so i i feel like they they kind of
29:12they did
29:13like a maybe uh outside net of what they thought was possible and then they came to the conclusion
29:19and i'm pretty sure david sterns like we mentioned earlier and steve cohen said you know what why don't
29:25we just make andy green the full-time manager if he wants to do it yeah it's it's really interesting
29:31and you're right and we got this comment here from uh matt satopian as well too says this ends
29:37the core and beltran craziness and uh you can't put the beltran rumors to to bed that's a great part
29:43of this core is a coach that although he's a world series winner but does not relate to young talent
29:48beltran is nonsense you say i'm sorry the relates it the relate the relate to young talent thing is
29:54hilarious to me i'm sorry can you look at that boston red sox lineup back when they won in 2018
29:59to remind me some of their star players i'm pretty sure it was like a rookie or so rafael devers
30:03i was
30:03really breaking down you know i thought wasn't he yeah this guy mookie betts i was pretty solid you
30:07know their core pieces were pretty good young homegrown talents there so i i don't i i let me put
30:14it this
30:14way the alex core stuff what is most fascinating about this is it really is like it feels like it's
30:19phillies or bust now and the question is if it's not phillies who is it going to be
30:23and what kind of impact is that going to have because again there's layers to andy signing
30:28with the mets here and how this may impact how other teams go about their searches for heading
30:34the next year and that was the main thing where i think if there's a biggest counter going back to
30:38the start of the show that you stayed dex i'm not opposed to andy per se i'm just opposed to
30:43how we
30:44went about this and if we do come to find out that core becomes philly's manager and we do come
30:49to
30:49find out that maybe someone that could have been a managerial option for the new york mets gets hired to
30:53arrival as well and we see them both really thrive and like again like i said in a hypothetical world
30:58just have more success in the mets next year it's going to be a tough reality because in in our
31:03mind
31:03that we're going to say to ourselves you know roster build aside would that have been the better route
31:08for the mets to go down and you know i would like to think that the mets did enough of
31:14their homework
31:15and reached out to enough people before making this decision is it possible that they didn't of course
31:21you know when it comes to the mets and maybe not doing things like other organizations should be
31:25doing it wouldn't be the most shocking thing however i do think that they're smart enough
31:29that they likely have you know dabbled in enough areas before coming to the conclusion that you know
31:34what andy's going to be our guy yeah i say one more thing yes you can sure steve cohen said
31:40uh in the
31:41off season probably i don't know if it was this off season last off season but or maybe it was
31:45when he
31:46when he first came board he has a lot of money but he's not going to want to overspend he
31:51wants to
31:51build from within correct and and and andy green has kind of helped facilitated that because as we
31:58know in the past before andy green got here we've heard all the right we heard a brett baity vientos
32:04alvarez and their development did not really go as well whereas now you have andy green who took over in
32:11in 2023 you got carson benj coming up you got aj ewing these guys are going to be integral parts
32:17of this team for years to come along with mclean and thornton uh and the list goes on and on
32:24of
32:25prospects that could possibly come up here sooner rather than later so i feel like steve co this is
32:31the person that they think of when it is comes time to being the manager of this team someone who
32:38can
32:38bring these kids up to go along with the veterans who he has good rapport with and uh i i
32:44just think
32:44it's the for the mets i don't know how the fan base feels but for the mets this is the
32:49best of both
32:50worlds for them when it comes to handling the media handling veteran players handling the prospects and
32:58the youth of this team and he's brought a lot of comfortability in a very short time i think you
33:02could argue and in ways i i haven't seen to the same degree with other managers dex what what's your
33:08stance on that before we wrap my my stance on what exactly um your stance on the comfortability
33:15that andy appears to have brought to the organization and what's been a year filled with
33:19turmoil it feels like he really knew how to weather restore yeah i think one of the things you guys
33:24both hit upon it for me in watching him really and and you know i think about the beginning of
33:29the
33:29season for those who watch the show warty was very disenchanted i will say with how carlos
33:37mendoza answered questions right didn't feel like he gave you uh the full honesty a breath of an
33:45answer right and i will i'm gonna make a new york sports comparison here to something that new york
33:50sports fans have recently just seen i do do a show on the knicks new york out game and the
33:57knicks made
33:57a change in manager last year and i am not saying that andy green is going to be mike brown
34:01so
34:02chill not saying that gave me excited tax see what what he's all smiling he got red already anthony
34:09he got really excited what i what i will say is and and and what he's heard me say this
34:15before
34:17with the knicks this year from covering tom thibodeau it was a breath of fresh air
34:23to hear mike brown talk about his process how he dealt with lineups how he talked to players
34:30his brutal honesty when the team sucked even in a two and nine stretch in january you saw all that
34:35i felt the same kind of vibe in listening to andy green and how he communicated to the media
34:41and the media is an extension of the fans i always say that it's an extension it's the bridge between
34:46the fans and the the team in the front office and all that stuff he was very honest very transparent
34:51we here and i don't know how you felt um anthony we loved how he handled talking about mark vientos
34:57going into september where he was just straight up blunt and was like he he better earn his at-bats
35:03and i was like that's great this is the same with kodai sanga kodai sanga too right hey there's no
35:09more free opportunities for you here you have to prove it we all see the fancy any green sees the
35:16front offices we know it's last chance baseball for those guys right at least with the mets
35:22that kind of honesty is refreshing i think it's also something the fan base can get behind
35:27i think fans like that transparency i think players like that transparency particularly
35:33young players so it's a totality i did like the things that andy green did it is refreshing i hope
35:39he keeps the same energy next year even if things get tough which i'm sure he's gonna have a tough
35:44stretcher too but i do think those are the things you can feel good about right and it is i
35:51don't
35:51want to just compare him to carlos mendoza but it was a breath of fresh air from carlos mendoza wardy
35:56was like whoa i haven't heard this kind of transparency before all season and i think players feel that too
36:02in the clubhouse man i really do and so my hope for andy green as we wrap here is that
36:07he can keep that
36:08same energy he can um uplift and continue to develop players and that the organization truly supports him
36:16because if you're going to make a move like this where you didn't cast a wide net then you've got
36:22to give that man all the support that he truly deserves here and a shot to succeed right like which
36:29means hiring a gm that's a voice maybe bringing if the diversity isn't going to come here maybe bring
36:34some more diverse voices into the front office right i think all these things matter for the
36:38mets in 2027 because it's not just in a vacuum time will tell whether this is a good hire i
36:43don't
36:44think it's a bad hire i can't say it's a bad hire i think the mets for once are looking
36:49at how things
36:51connect with their players that part of it i really do like and will that work for them going forward
36:57we'll see we're gonna we're gonna see but it's it's very good stuff we uh thank everybody for joining
