The use of AI is already widespread in schools. And while some students use it, others are worried about how the tech will impact them in the future. There are concerns too about how ai could change the human brain if it increasingly takes over deep thinking.

00:02Preparing to protest AI data centre proposals in their community,
00:07this group of young people also have big concerns about how the technology could shape their learning and future.
00:14They're boycotting it. My friends who are in uni at the moment, none of them use AI.
00:19And most of them are quite concerned about the impact that it has environmentally, socially,
00:23and the impact that it is having on their education.
00:26But students avoiding AI are the exception rather than the norm.
00:32The eSafety Commission found 78% of Australian children had used an AI assistant,
00:3891% for information and learning, 70% for writing or editing, and 68% for entertainment.
00:45Yeah, there's heaps of benefits because it makes all the information so easily available.
00:50And getting it to make a practice test with answers.
00:52In the, like, creative aspect, I hate it.
00:56There are concerns too about how AI could impact critical thinking.
01:01A study in China found while the use of AI lifted homework results by 18%, exam scores dropped by 20%.
01:10Some neuroscientists say AI can be an effective learning tool, but there's a theoretical risk that if it's used to
01:18offload deep thinking,
01:20it could impact on the creation of connections in the brain which build what's known as cognitive reserve.
01:27So we might be looking at some generations of people who have had deficit in this cognitive reserve,
01:34and then are much more susceptible to, say, conditions such as dementia.
01:38The rise of AI might prompt a rethink in how education is delivered and assessed.
01:43The rise of AI is now over on the highest level of risk is reduced.
01:43The rise of AI may market, the rise of AI must be divided by the highest level of risk.
01:45The rise of AI must be found under the highest level of risk.
01:47The rise of AI must be used in the highest level of risk.
