Two thousand meters down, in total darkness, something with barely-functioning eyes and a face built like a weapon has been hunting the exact same way for 125 million years — since before the extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs.
It can't see you. It doesn't need to. A blade-like snout packed with electrical sensors finds you first, and by the time anything's moving close enough to notice, spring-loaded jaws are already firing forward from inside its own skull at over 3 meters a second.
First caught in 1898 by fishermen who thought they'd hauled up a demon. Still barely understood today — most of what's known comes from animals that die within days of ever reaching the surface.
