The Skua is Antarctica's most hated animal. It swallows live penguin chicks whole while their mothers watch. It steals milk directly from nursing elephant seal pups. It grabs puffins mid-air and tears them apart before they hit the ground. It walked into a Giant Petrel's nest, grabbed the bird by the wing, yanked it off balance, and stole its egg while it was still fighting back.
It weighs less than 2 kg. It does not care. Known as the Pirate of the Sea, the Skua terrorizes every species it shares a continent with — seabirds, seals, penguins, and even humans. Scientists in Antarctica have documented Skuas memorizing individual human faces, singling out specific researchers who got too close to their nests, and launching targeted revenge attacks for days — ignoring everyone else wearing the same clothing. It can spend 10 months a year at sea without ever touching land. It can live up to 45 years. And in all that time, the list of animals that don't hate it stays at zero.
