00:00I'm going to get some breaking news right now for our viewers. This is involving the White House and a
00:04new edict from President Donald Trump that he would ban at least two cable networks, excuse me, at least three
00:09news organizations from actually being at the White House. That includes the cable network CNN as well as MSNOW, formerly
00:17MSNBC, as well as the online publication Politico. Kayleigh Lyons joining us right now from our Washington, D.C. set,
00:24the co-host of Balance of Power. What exactly is going on here, Kayleigh?
00:29Well, this announcement was just made by the president, who, of course, does not have an acting White House press
00:34secretary, I would mention, Romain.
00:36So it's unclear whether or not this is the president's decision alone to make or how he would enforce it
00:41if this decision in his mind were to stand at CNN, MSNOW and Politico, he says, will be bound for
00:46now on the grounds of what he describes as fake reporting.
00:50In his words, he says, fiction and lies. But he also says at the end of this post on True
00:55Social that more fake other fake news media outlets to follow, suggesting there could be more to come here.
01:01Obviously, this is a move that could easily draw court challenges, as we saw earlier in the president's term back
01:06in 2025 when he banned the Associated Press from the White House due to their unwillingness to rename the Gulf
01:14of America, Gulf of Mexico for Gulf of America after he signed that executive order.
01:20And they are still banned. Appeals court held up their ban from more intimate areas of the White House, like
01:25the Oval Office.
01:26And it's unclear whether or not that is the kind of restriction President Trump is looking at here.
01:31But again, it's Politico, MSNOW and CNN, the president says, are going to be banned from the White House.
01:36And the White House pool has been holding Romain ready to go into a health care event that President Trump
01:41is holding at the White House this afternoon.
01:43I'm not clear whether or not that's going to change the actual participants in the pool or the reporters who
01:48will be let in the room.
01:49But I would imagine most of them are going to have questions about this.
01:52And we'll hear more from the president on this shortly.
01:54Kayleigh, you were mentioning sort of the precedents that we'd seen also with the AP previously.
01:59What do you think is the time frame on here when we can hear more developments for the latest news
02:02outlets that this has happened to?
02:05Well, it's an excellent question.
02:06No one can get into the president's mind as to whether or not this is an immediate ban, although he
02:11says it is.
02:12If that means today, could that mean that these news organizations are follow with court challenges today?
02:17Perhaps we have seen other news organizations, aside from the Associated Press, be willing to take issues like this to
02:23the courts, not necessarily with just the White House, but the wider Trump administration.
02:27Keeping in mind, the Pentagon also has been dealing with issues with restrictions.
02:31It has placed on the press inside of its facilities and restrictions on actual reporting that spurred a lot of
02:40news organizations actually turning in their credentials because they were unwilling to agree to that.
02:44So we have seen issues with the press bubbling up in different pockets of this administration.
02:48Obviously, when it comes directly to the White House, the White House Correspondents Association.
02:53Also, it's likely to play a role.
02:55And I would expect that we'll get a statement from the Correspondents Association on this shortly, as well as they
03:01would be kind of one of the first lines of response as they organize media organizations' relationship with the White
03:06House at large.
