00:00What are you buying when you spend $60 on a loaf of bread?
00:05Probably not only a bread or flour.
00:07Time, love, experience, and maybe some luxury grades.
00:12We're going to find out.
00:14So we are here at Wegmans, which is one of the fanciest supermarkets in New York.
00:19We're going to buy some expensive supermarket bread.
00:22I have to compare it with my memories from German bread, maybe.
00:26So, $16 in total.
00:30Which you can get a quarter loaf of our bread.
00:35Let's get expensive bread because $16 for bread is apparently not expensive enough.
00:40No, no, no.
00:42Here we are at location number two.
00:45So we have a very well-branded, well-packaged product
00:49sold to us by someone explaining it all in great detail,
00:54where you can buy kombucha on tap or wine by the glass,
00:58or slices all carefully spread with finished butter.
01:01So we have three loaves of bread.
01:04And we are taking them all back to the Bloomberg Mothership at 731 Legs.
01:09And do a taste test.
01:11Let's find out.
01:13All right, I'm pretty even.
01:17I'm going to slice this a bit and take a bite.
01:20Yeah.
01:20And we're going to see.
01:21This is high-end supermarket bread, I would say.
01:27It's airy.
01:28I like that.
01:30It's got that lovely caraway-ry taste.
01:34We bought it just a few hours ago.
01:36It already feels as though it's going a little bit stale.
01:39Yeah, you definitely have to toast it.
01:41We're moving up in the world to the $10 loaf.
01:46There's not much going on here, I have to say.
01:48It's not, you don't have the sourness of the sourdough.
01:51No.
01:51It's not too much of a difference for the $4 more, right?
01:56Work on your bread, Wegmans.
01:59The finely-wrapped Martin Auer rye bread.
02:06Solid.
02:08This one is a little crustier.
02:11So much more gluten.
02:14I like the taste.
02:15I like the taste.
02:16It is a good loaf of bread.
02:18Yeah.
02:18Is it a $60 loaf of bread?
02:20No.
02:21No.
02:22Yeah, I think this might just be a media fustecluck.
