00:00What's your math?
00:01I'm taking 107, so it's kind of like just like algebra and things like that.
00:05I think I took math 107.
00:08No.
00:08Yeah.
00:09Four times.
00:10No, no, I took math 001 three times until they put me on academic probation.
00:18Quincy, what a year you've had, man.
00:21What a couple-year run.
00:24How weird is it to be a gold medalist and a freshman in college?
00:28I feel like it's really cool.
00:31I feel like it's really cool because I come out here, and as a freshman, you're able to lead.
00:36That's one of the biggest things I wanted to do when I came to Maryland.
00:39I wanted to be able to lead, and I feel like my teammates have seen me.
00:43They've seen the resume.
00:44They've seen everything, and just me coming down there and just being a freshman, it's kind of like weird.
00:47They'd be like, how are you gold medalist, but how are you a freshman at the same time?
00:50And so I'm kind of like leading as a freshman, but also not really saying as much, you know?
00:56Do people recognize you all over campus?
00:58Yeah, yeah, yes, sir.
00:59That's cool.
01:00What is that like in Math 107 when everybody's like, oh, that's the gold medalist?
01:06I feel like the kids are willing to help you a little bit more.
01:09They're willing to talk to you, and if you need some help, they'll help you with it all.
01:14All right, so we've got Quincy Wilson joining us as well as Baba Olagotin.
01:19Baba, what's up, man?
01:20Good to see you, bud.
01:21Good to see Quincy.
01:22Baba, this is Brian Mitchell.
01:24I don't know if you guys have met.
01:25He can reach, dude.
01:26He can reach.
01:28Baba, we got to meet, I don't know if you'll remember this, we met at the Capitol Classic.
01:31I was working that game.
01:33In the time from when we talked then in the spring to now as a freshman in Maryland, how
01:38was College Park?
01:39Everything you kind of thought it would be?
01:41Yeah, so I grew up here, and my dad owns a couple properties around the area.
01:44So, yeah, I'm definitely used to the environment.
01:46It's been really live since we've been on here on campus.
01:49Got here, like, right before I graduated, so May 29th.
01:51Yeah, I got really acclimated with just, like, the whole entire campus.
01:54It's huge.
01:54Sure, and it's big.
01:55Yeah, so just going to my classes and stuff, scootering around, you know, I'm certain Quincy
01:58said the same thing.
02:00Yeah, it's really a good family environment.
02:01You know, I really like my professors, my teachers.
02:04Student environment's really live.
02:05I like my coaches as well.
02:07Like, practice has been very competitive.
02:09So, yeah, we're going to have a really good team this year.
02:10So, yeah, I'd like to be here on campus.
02:12Both of y'all coming here with hype and a lot of stuff behind.
02:16Do you ever get a chance to talk with each other about what your plans are for your time
02:22here?
02:22Oh, the crazy thing is me and Baba are always doing stuff together.
02:25We're always going to dinner.
02:26We're always doing – we're doing everything together.
02:28You'll see us on campus.
02:29I mean, how long have you guys known each other?
02:32Well, I've seen him around, but we never really started talking until, like, this summer.
02:35Okay.
02:36Yeah, because we were both in summer school together.
02:38So, we both seen each other and we just, like, we know we're both big-time local recruits
02:41coming home to play at Maryland.
02:43And the funny thing, actually, when I committed, he followed me on Instagram.
02:46I've seen this stuff, like, everywhere.
02:47And, like, you know, I've always been, like, a fan, you know, like, in this day and age.
02:51But, now, he followed me.
02:51Like, I had a feeling he was going to commit because I see Malik commenting on this stuff and stuff.
02:57And then I seen him commit, and I was like, wow, that's crazy.
02:59He's asking, like, South Carolina, USC, and I was like, no way he's going to Maryland.
03:02Wasn't it like USC and UCLA were options, too?
03:05Yeah, yeah, all of them.
03:06Why was it important to come back?
03:08Come on.
03:09For both of you to stay home.
03:10I mean, I'll let him go first.
03:12For me, I feel like it was the whole aspect.
03:14I feel like the whole – it wasn't just the University of Maryland.
03:16I feel like it was the whole state of Maryland that came into it.
03:18You know, having the president come to my house and recruit me, I think it was super crazy.
03:23And you couldn't pass on the opportunity.
03:25You have Coach Bowman.
03:26He was an Olympic champion.
03:27He's had his resume, tells for himself, multiple-time Olympic champion, world champion.
03:32And when you're able to have those conversations on the track with a coach like that, I mean, the sky
03:37is the limit.
03:38I'm just – we've already had some great success together, went to the U-20 World Championships.
03:43We got a gold and a silver this summer.
03:44For Maryland?
03:45Yeah, when I've – yes.
03:46Wow.
03:47I've been here, so it's been really good.
03:49Yes, sir.
03:49That's great.
03:50I'm curious for you, Quincy, because, Baba, you committed first, right, in the timeline.
03:55Did seeing a guy like Baba, who had options to go anywhere, commit to Maryland impact you wanting to stay
04:02here?
04:03Honestly, when I was – I tuned into his live because I had already told Coach a couple days before
04:08I was committing.
04:09Oh, really?
04:09I was praying that he was going to Maryland.
04:11So I didn't say anything out loud because I didn't have my – I didn't commit on, like, the actual
04:15commitment day.
04:16I had a whole commitment party, so I just had to keep it quiet.
04:19But I was looking at it, and I was just like – I was hoping because my teacher was one
04:23of his coaches.
04:24And so all the talk was Georgetown, and I'm just like, man, just come to Maryland.
04:30I loved your dad's answer the night you did the commitment when your dad said the traffic's easier to Maryland
04:36than it is to Georgetown.
04:38How much was that a factor?
04:40Yeah, that was performative.
04:41I mean, it's not that big of a difference.
04:43You know, there's no really shade of Georgetown.
04:45It was close in my recruitment.
04:46But I felt like Maryland, the biggest thing was just the staff.
04:49You know how close I was to the staff.
04:50Buzz Williams, as soon as he got the job, before I even reclassified up.
04:53So when I was at 2027, he reached out.
04:55You know, he was consistent in recruiting.
04:57You know, Coach Aki Collins, he recruited me at OTE.
04:59So, like, the relationship was there.
05:01And Coach Seth Allen was another coach.
05:02You know, even though he was a GA, it was just really close.
05:05And the recruitment was so smooth.
05:07It was just like – it was a no-brainer for me.
05:08That's great, man.
05:09There's so much excitement and momentum.
05:11Now, you guys have your own sports going on.
05:13How locked in will you guys be for tomorrow night with the Hokies coming to town?
05:17Man, I'm excited for the game.
05:19You know, I was a football player myself.
05:21Yeah.
05:21So there's a lot of people that's played on both teams I used to play with.
05:24Or one of the guys I grew up basically with, you know, playing around.
05:28So I'm just excited.
05:29Were you a receiver?
05:30I played receiver and safety, but I was more of a safety guy.
05:32Really?
05:33Yes, sir.
05:33Who on earth could cover you?
05:35When did you just run past all of them?
05:37The quarterback couldn't get the ball to you.
05:38I like playing safety.
05:39I like to hit.
05:40I like to hit.
05:41Really?
05:41Yeah.
05:41I wasn't built with my physique.
05:43Wasn't ready for being like a defensive player.
05:45But like I said, I go hard until the whistle ends.
05:49I love that.
05:50Did you ever play football?
05:52Nah, nah.
05:54Couldn't even try.
05:55Just hoops forever?
05:56Take my legs out.
05:57I could be a water boy.
05:58For sure.
05:59That's it.
06:00Did you play other sports growing up?
06:01So I used to swim.
06:02Okay.
06:03And then I played soccer, too.
06:04So I was a goalie.
06:05You could cover a lot of ground playing goalie.
06:08Yeah, I didn't get scored on ever.
06:09Now, you guys are both Montgomery County guys, right?
06:11Well, I'm from PG.
06:13Okay.
06:13I'm from PG.
06:14You went to Bullets.
06:15All right.
06:16You're both DMV guys.
06:17I have a very important question.
06:19What football teams do you root for in the pros?
06:22I root for the Ravens all day.
06:24The Ravens?
06:24He said that, though.
06:25We were wondering because you're a young man,
06:28and even though you grew up in PG,
06:29like Lamar and the Ravens have been good the whole time,
06:31was it ever the Burgundy and Gold?
06:33Was it ever the Skins or the Commanders?
06:34No, I've always been a Ravens fan.
06:36I got pictures of me when Ray Lewis retired.
06:38I was crying.
06:40I have all of them.
06:41Was all your family Ravens?
06:43There were no Skins fans?
06:44No, no.
06:44All my family was Ravens fans.
06:45Really?
06:46Ravens fans.
06:47What about you?
06:47So I'm a Commanders fan, bro.
06:49There we go.
06:50Come on.
06:50It's great.
06:51But I feel like I'm a bandwagon
06:53because I just became a fan recently.
06:54That's fine.
06:55Jaden Dales.
06:55I love his game.
06:57That's fine.
06:57Eric's Scary Terry.
06:58All the players.
06:59I love Commanders.
07:00Have you contacted with any of those guys?
07:01Because I know kind of the Instagram world.
07:04Not really.
07:05But I feel like as I continue to grow in my fame
07:07and all that stuff,
07:08I definitely want to go to Commanders game,
07:10get a jersey, all that stuff.
07:11Here's my recommendation.
07:12I know a guy.
07:14We could probably make that happen.
07:16I mean, he's got a Super Bowl ring
07:18playing for the organization.
07:19But I'm guessing you guys both know Wale.
07:22He's a huge Terps fan.
07:23He's also a huge Commanders fan.
07:25That's who you want to take you around.
07:27For sure.
07:27Because he'll be in the owner's suite.
07:31That is the guy going forward.
07:33Now, another important question.
07:37Where does the gold medal live?
07:39It's at home.
07:41Locked up.
07:41I haven't probably seen it in probably a couple months.
07:44And my reason for that is,
07:46I say this.
07:47Right now we're closer to 2028 than we are to 2024.
07:50And I look at it and I say,
07:52if I keep living in the past
07:53and looking at so much things I did in the past,
07:55I'm not going to be able to get to anything in the future.
07:57So I let that go behind me.
07:59I've got to wear you 20 gold this year.
08:01Things like that.
08:02Just keep up racking up all the medals.
08:04And right now I'm just trying to go look for what's ready for the next two years.
08:09The windshield is bigger than the rear view mirror.
08:11Of course.
08:12Now that is.
08:13It's way more out there than it is behind you.
08:15Free game Friday.
08:16There you go.
08:18Very admirable attitude.
08:21However, if you got like a first date,
08:24would you break it out then?
08:25Nah.
08:26They already know?
08:29I wouldn't bring it out because, you know,
08:30then she would be wanting me for the medal.
08:32It's nothing.
08:33That's true.
08:35That's smart, man.
08:36Now you know where I would use it.
08:37When I was in college,
08:38I wasn't the best student.
08:40Okay.
08:40So sometimes you got to like sweet talk to professor
08:42to get that C instead of the D
08:44because C gets you credits, right?
08:45Would you ever pull the gold medal out in that situation?
08:48I pulled it out in ways where I'm in like a long line.
08:51Now you're talking.
08:53Yeah.
08:54Now, is it impossible for you to go anywhere
08:57and not get recognized just with your height alone?
08:59Yeah, it's impossible.
09:00Literally, bro.
09:01We got dinner one time, bro.
09:02It's like they're taking pictures with both of them
09:04at the same time.
09:05So they're taking a free picture with Quincy Wilson and boss.
09:08It's funny.
09:09And it's like when you're taking a picture,
09:10it's like one like this, one on him, one down.
09:12It's like, bro.
09:13Yeah.
09:14Sometimes you get away from the height difference.
09:17Where is the best food in College Park these days?
09:20Oh, it's Iron Rooster and Grill Marks.
09:23We go there every day.
09:24From the top two.
09:24Grill Marks is in the hotel down there?
09:27Yeah, and Iron Rooster.
09:28Oh, both of them are in there.
09:29Oh, boy.
09:29Okay.
09:30Now, do you guys stay in dorms?
09:31Like, how does this work for star athletes nowadays?
09:34We both live in apartments.
09:35Off-campus.
09:36Off-campus.
09:37Do the Knox boxes still exist?
09:39Never heard of those.
09:41In my college apartment, we had no air conditioning and we stole cable.
09:46So we just ran the cable through our kitchen into the living room.
09:49And to get from the refrigerator to the sink, you had to walk under the cable.
09:54So you had to do the limbo every time you tried to cook dinner.
09:56That's crazy.
09:57How is your limbo game?
10:01It's probably tough.
10:01I can't see that.
10:04It's been a while.
10:05Fellas, I can't thank you enough.
10:06I'm glad we got a Commander's fan.
10:08Of course.
10:08And you're allowed to root for the Ravens.
10:10You're a gold medalist.
10:13How much is L.A. going to mean to you, 2028?
10:15Everything.
10:16Everything.
10:16To do it in America.
10:17I mean, just do it for your home city.
10:19Just like how I want to stay here and do it for Maryland, I want to be able to do
10:22it in my own city.
10:23It's always the best.
10:25It's always the best to do it here.
10:26And so I started my legacy in 2024 and Maryland was for me.
10:302028, Maryland will have my back again.
10:32I love that, man.
10:33Gentlemen, thank you so much.
10:35This was tremendous.
10:36When we come back, we got Jeff's Commander song and some injury updates.
10:38Thank you very much, Baba and Quincy.
10:40This has been great.
10:41We're coming right back.
