00:00So Detroit has surrendered roughly 915 yards through two games.
00:0530 points in week one, 41 in week two, 71 allowed through two games.
00:13I don't think Detroit's going to make any type of playoff noise
00:17with this type of defense, man.
00:18It just never happens.
00:19What do you think?
00:21Tonight's game could have been easily 56 points.
00:23It could have.
00:24They had 41.
00:25They had 27 at halftime.
00:27I think the number was 27 at halftime.
00:30Yeah, 27 to 10.
00:31Yeah, that 27 at halftime.
00:33So the idea that, you know, they didn't take the foot off the brake.
00:37They clearly, off the gas, they clearly did.
00:40I think Detroit, the mask of the first two quarters,
00:44has really covered up this game.
00:47Because if you look at it, you rarely see a team lose an NFL game
00:52in the first half.
00:54That's just the nature of the sport, the way the game goes.
00:57You rarely see a team lose in the first half.
01:00This game was over at halftime.
01:02And with that offense, I can't believe I'm saying that.
01:06But I keep finding myself about the Lions saying,
01:08with that offense, I can't believe.
01:11With that offense, I'm expecting this.
01:14And it all keeps falling like a thud.
01:16So they, it's early.
01:20And they did get credit for a win.
01:22So you can't take a win away from them.
01:24They won the game against the Saints.
01:25And at the end of the year, that may end up being pivotal.
01:29But I just, I'm not comfortable with their two games.
01:33The way the Saints came back on them,
01:35the way Tyler got hot on them,
01:37and the way Josh Allen just dominated them from the jump on a short week.
01:45Think about that.
01:46On a short week, Josh Allen dominated them.
01:50So this wasn't one of them situations where,
01:52oh, they had all off season to prepare for this.
01:54Or they had the average amount of time you have to prepare for this.
01:57It's on a short week they got trounced.
01:59So I just don't know what to think about the Lions at this point.
02:02I'm not throwing them out because they won and won.
02:05But they could easily be 0-2.
02:06And we were having the same questions about them
02:08that we have about the Chargers.
02:10Like, oh, what's going to happen to them in Week 2?
02:12What's going to happen to the Rams in Week 2 when the Giants come to?
02:14There are teams with questions hovering around them
02:17because they're 0-1.
02:19We could absolutely have those exact same questions about the Lions
02:23if they did not have a good first half against the Saints.
02:26You think, I mean, I think I already know your answer to this.
02:29But do you think two games is enough to call this a real problem for them?
02:33Like, we've seen teams have some bad starts
02:35and kind of get their bearings a little bit.
02:37But I think this is a real problem, just personnel-wise.
02:42A lot of this feels like a carryover from last year.
02:45Yeah.
02:45And so some of the struggles from some of the teams we've seen so far,
02:48well, it's been two weeks, kind of two weeks.
02:51But some of the struggles we saw in Week 1
02:53and the Lions struggles from Week 2,
02:55these are carryovers from last year.
02:58So I wouldn't say that I'm just making this proclamation
03:02or this declaration after two games.
03:05I'm kind of putting together what I saw at the end of last year,
03:08which was injury-riddled.
03:10They come back this year, offensive line,
03:13a lot of them not active today, injury-riddled.
03:16The defensive side of the ball last year,
03:19I don't even know how they survived.
03:20They had so many injuries.
03:22But now we come out and we see them this year.
03:24They don't look great.
03:26They don't look great.
03:27But again, here I am about to repeat myself.
03:30With that offense, they don't need to be great.
03:33With that offense, they don't need to be great.
03:36You just got to find a way not to give up 41 and 27 in the first half.
03:41Do you think it's more so the line or the linebacking core or the secondary?
03:47Because look, Aiden Hutchinson is still pretty good.
03:51Do you think he's getting enough help or do you think it's that secondary?
03:55Because remember a few years ago when they were in that NFC title game
03:58that I was mentioning in Block 1,
04:00they had a pretty good secondary.
04:01They had a pretty stout defense under Aaron Glenn.
04:05Now I just feel like they have guys that are just there.
04:08And again, they lost Terry and Arnold because of his legal issues.
04:11But it just feels like it's not the same team personnel-wise.
04:16And I just wonder where you're seeing it.
04:18Are you seeing it at the line?
04:19Are you seeing it in the secondary?
04:21Is it coaching, do you think?
04:24What if it's just mojo?
04:27Could be it too.
04:28What if it's just mojo, man?
04:30A lot of football is confidence.
04:32A lot of professional sports is between the ears, man.
04:35And sometimes you ain't got that mojo no more.
04:37You ain't got that swag.
04:38You just ain't got it.
04:40That the it factor is one of the things in sports you can't quantify it.
04:44Either you have it or you don't.
04:46And we thought the it factor was Dan Campbell.
04:50I keep saying this about Ben Johnson.
04:52But we thought the it factor was Dan Campbell.
04:57Maybe it was Ben Johnson because they haven't been the same since.
05:01And so if we're going to be honest about this,
05:03their defense, on paper, it looks like it should be good.
05:07But all those guys are healthy now.
05:09Aiden Hutchinson looked awesome tonight.
05:11He looked like he didn't have nothing affecting him.
05:13They just got worked to start the game.
05:16So, again, when you get work to start the game, that's coaching.
05:22That's preparation.
05:24That's getting guys ready to play.
05:26That's supposed to be Dan Campbell's specialty.
05:27That's supposed to be good.
