The Buffalo Bills opened their new Highmark Stadium in style Thursday night, defeating the Detroit Lions 41-31 behind a spectacular performance from Josh Allen.
Allen accounted for five touchdowns, throwing three and rushing for two, as Buffalo jumped to a 27-10 halftime advantage. The quarterback also reached his 90th regular-season victory, joining a select group of quarterbacks to achieve the milestone within their first nine seasons.
James Cook played a major role as well, rushing for 134 yards and sealing the win with a late 1-yard touchdown run.
Detroit fought back after falling behind 21-0, cutting the deficit to 34-24 in the second half. Jared Goff finished with 327 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Amon-Ra St. Brown recorded 142 receiving yards and two scores.
The $2.1 billion stadium also features underground field heating and the world's largest stadium snow-melt system, designed to handle Buffalo's harsh winter weather.
