00:00Not an A on the sheet for the offense.
00:03Now we're going to flip it over and get to the defense.
00:06I don't know that we can quite get to A's,
00:07but I thought the defense played pretty well.
00:10The explosives were the problem, undoubtedly.
00:14If you look at...
00:16So, I don't know how you want to divide this up, B.
00:19You want to go D-line and then edge rushers,
00:22linebackers, corners, and safeties?
00:24Do you want DBs together, D-line together?
00:27I think we divide up at least corners and safeties
00:32because I thought those were two different grades.
00:35Let's start with the big boys in the middle.
00:37We're talking Payne, Kinlaw, Settle.
00:40That group that I thought...
00:42I thought they played well.
00:43I thought they did too, man.
00:44I don't think they played to A, though.
00:46No.
00:47Probably.
00:47I go B-minus.
00:48B-minus for the D-line?
00:50Yeah.
00:55It's interesting.
00:57I'm tempted to go just to a B for the guys on the interior.
01:01The one big one Saquon broke was on the edge, wasn't it?
01:05I went through the middle because the linebackers got tripped up.
01:08Okay.
01:09Chanel and I forgot the other...
01:10They got tripped up.
01:12If you look at snap counts for the D-line,
01:15and you're always going to kind of rotate these guys,
01:17Payne led with 34 snaps for 62%.
01:20Then Kinlaw, 32 snaps, 58%.
01:22Amenahou, 29 for 53.
01:25Settle, 19 snaps for 35%.
01:28Shai Tuttle got 16 snaps, 29%.
01:32I'll see your B-minus.
01:34I'm with you there.
01:35What about the edge, guys?
01:37We're talking Owe, Chason.
01:40Luvu's going to be in the linebacker group,
01:43but Josh Josephs, I thought, gave them good snaps.
01:47Josh Josephs on...
01:48All those guys are OLBs.
01:50On Sonny's sack, Josh Josephs blew up the tackle.
01:57What do you like for the edge, guys?
01:58I like the B-plus again.
02:01You said it's B-minus for the D-line?
02:03Yeah.
02:03Okay.
02:03Well, I'm just going B, man.
02:05You still get three points for a B.
02:07Whether it's B-minus, B-plus, or B, you get three points.
02:11I think I'm going B-plus for the edge, guys.
02:14You still get three.
02:15You don't get 3.5.
02:16No, it's all weighted now.
02:17The kids graduate high school with like a 4.7.
02:20Yeah, that's because they get five points when they have like a college...
02:24AP classes.
02:24AP classes, stuff like that.
02:26If you don't have AP class, you don't get that five.
02:28You get four.
02:29I...
02:29I had that when I was graduating.
02:31How many AP credits do you think I graduated with from old BCC?
02:35One.
02:36I think four.
02:39I got...
02:39In four years of high school?
02:41Yeah.
02:42My senior year, I took AP English and AP U.S. History.
02:47And how are AP scores?
02:48Is it one, two, or three?
02:50I got a three on U.S. History.
02:52That was my stuff.
02:54And I think I got one on AP English.
02:58And I still, I still have this nightmare dream, whatever you want to call it, where like the
03:03University of Maryland is contacting me that I didn't graduate.
03:06And it's because of Spanish class.
03:09Somehow my high school Spanish...
03:13Math, 001, three times.
03:16Somehow my high school Spanish placed me out of Spanish at Maryland.
03:21And I'm sure they've tightened these rules up now in the 20 years since I graduated.
03:25But my high school Spanish wasn't all that good.
03:28No bueno.
03:31Linebackers.
03:32We're talking styles.
03:34Sonny Styles in his rookie debut played 87% of snaps.
03:37And was impactful.
03:38You're talking TFLs.
03:41You're talking styles.
03:43Luvu.
03:43Chenal.
03:45Luvu got hurt in that thing, which was a blow to them.
03:47I saw Frankie for a moment in the locker room and he looked okay.
03:51One thing that worries me a bit, I don't think I saw Owens.
03:54I did see Chig for a second after the game.
03:58Where are you at on the linebacker?
04:00B+.
04:03Me too.
04:04I thought they were good.
04:05I thought if we were doing individual player grades, this is crazy.
04:10We're not doing individual player grades.
04:12Actually, weren't we going to do the BMF award?
04:14Who was the BMF of the game?
04:16All right.
04:16So we'll save that for there.
04:18Because that might...
04:19And the reason they didn't get the A in my book,
04:23it was two linebackers that took each other out.
04:26We're kind of out of position on that big run.
04:27The Saquon run.
04:28The Saquon.
04:28Yeah, I agree.
04:31Corners.
04:33I think this is going to be my lowest grade.
04:35C-.
04:36Yeah.
04:37I think it's a D.
04:38D+.
04:39I got a couple of those.
04:40You probably don't know what those feel like, but...
04:43I mean, this game was lost on explosive.
04:45See, I had one person who I think took it down,
04:47but a couple of other plays I saw in there where that grade jumps back.
04:52Rasul with the hit fumble.
04:54Should have held off a little bit of that.
04:56Rasul, give him one more step, but then knock the ball out.
04:59Would you like to see Douglas on the field more?
05:02You'll get there.
05:0317 snaps, 31% of the plays.
05:05Yeah, of course.
05:06Amik Robertson played 100% of the snaps.
05:09Mikey Sammer still was at 98% of the snaps.
05:10Amik's a little dog.
05:11I love him, though.
05:13Yo, what do they list him at versus how tall do you think he is?
05:17What is he, five what?
05:18I'm missing that.
05:19What do they list him at?
05:20Say, I'm computerless.
05:21Amik Robertson listed, I bet they...
05:22Probably about 5'9".
05:23I bet they list him like five.
05:25I think a competitor that dude is at his size.
05:27That's why, I mean, I think size means absolutely nothing on the football field.
05:32I wanted to ask you this, though.
05:33It's right here.
05:33I agree with that.
05:34But what do you make of the commanders rolling out on, you know, 55 and 54, like on basically
05:42100% of their defensive snaps with shorter corners?
05:46It doesn't make a difference.
05:47Those are the two guys you think are the best.
05:49You go with it.
05:49Even with Pickens and Lamb coming.
05:51It doesn't make a difference.
05:52Okay.
05:52You're going to have to have some safeties over the top on that.
05:55Speaking of the safeties, Nick Cross played 98% of the snaps.
05:59Jeremy Reeves played 100% of the snaps.
06:02Quan Martin played 38% of the snaps.
06:05How would you grade out the safety group?
06:07I'm going to be again.
06:09Because I think a couple plays I felt Rewo could have slid a little bit more and it made
06:13it tougher plays.
06:15But Nick Cross, if it was just Nick, it got A+.
06:20Agree.
06:20So you said B for the safeties?
06:23Yeah.
06:24I'm going to go C+.
06:25I think the Goddard touchdown, the first one, and the second one was just bad tackling
06:30on the back end.
06:33It's tough because the entire unit is a factor, obviously.
06:37But when you lose a game largely because of explosive plays, it's hard not to look at
06:42the defensive backfield.
06:43There was generally pressure.
06:45I think that whole thing with that last Goddard touchdown was not just defensive backfield.
06:50There was people sitting up here thinking they had a false start or illegal motion, whatever
06:56it was, and they weren't ready to go.
06:57And that was more than just defensive backfield.
06:59Agreed.
07:00Agreed.
07:01The special teams.
07:02I don't know how we want to divide this up because you saw real highlights.
07:06Let's just go special teams because Tress was great flipping the field.
07:11Stevens missed the field goal and got the extra point blocked.
07:15Owens had a couple true highlight plays.
07:18Amazing.
07:19I thought they were good in coverage by and large.
07:26But game came down to a two-point conversion in a game where your rookie kicker missed the
07:30field goal and got an extra point blocked.
07:31Yeah.
07:34And that...
07:34If I'm giving Owens an individual grade, it's an A+.
07:36If I'm giving the collective...
07:38I'm going to C-.
07:40I think I am, too.
07:44All right.
07:44So, rounding out the defensive side of the football, B-Mitch and I gave the D-line a B-.
07:50The edge rushers, B for Brian, B-plus for me.
07:53Linebackers were both at B-plus.
07:55Corners, B's at a C-minus.
07:57I was at a D.
07:58Safeties, B's at a B.
07:59I'm at a C-plus.
08:00Special teams were both at a C-minus.
08:04For folks that have never seen Pulp Fiction, there's a scene...
08:08Samuel L. Jackson in that movie is a true BMF.
08:14And if you don't know what that stands for, it says it on his wallet.
08:16Which wallet is yours?
08:18The one that says BMF on it.
08:20It also happens to be the B-Mitch and Finley show.
08:22So, the BMF award works here.
08:24B, who wins the BMF award for you from this game?
08:28I got two people.
08:29Okay.
08:30Sonny.
08:32Sonny.
08:32And Owens.
08:34Which one do you take?
08:37So, I also had Sonny on my list.
08:41I was going to say Antonio Williams.
08:44First ever game against a really tough defense.
08:47Leading receiver.
08:48Almost scored two touchdowns.
08:49Definitely scored one.
08:53What are...
08:54This is a question that I think we get to determine the answer.
08:59Considering we just came up with this award program,
09:01are we allowed to give multiple BMF awards out in your game?
09:07I think so.
09:08What you think, guys?
09:08Stallion?
09:09Yeah.
09:10Do it.
09:10Yeah.
09:11Do it.
09:11Yeah.
09:12All right.
09:13BMF award winners for week one.
09:15Sonny Styles, Tyler Owens, Antonio Williams.
09:18There you go.
09:18We good with that?
09:19Young Bucks.
09:20Yeah, man.
09:21I like that.
09:21I like that a lot.
09:22Hell yeah.
09:23If you look, I'm not a math guy, but collectively...
09:26You think people don't already know that?
09:29Collectively, the grades for this game,
09:33I'm guessing it comes in around a B minus, C plus.
09:36And I think that reflects what we saw.
09:41I think there were portions of it that were better.
09:43I think offensively, they got way better late.
09:45Like, if the offense was clicking early in that game,
09:48even earlier in the second half, I think they'd win.
09:52If the defense didn't have the explosives
09:54that dragged their grades down, I think they'd win.
09:56If the special teams, if the kid didn't miss a kick
09:59and get one blocked, I think they'd win.
10:01Like, they were on the doorstep of winning this damn thing.
10:05All right.
10:05BMF and Finley grades are in.
10:07What do you think of the grades?
10:08800-636-1067.
10:11Drew is in Graysonville.
10:12What's up, Drew?
10:12What's up, Drew?
10:13Hey, guys.
10:14Hey, I like this segment.
10:16When I think of the grades, I'm just going to go on offense.
10:19I think that, you know, I could grade the offense in the first half
10:23a C minus or a D plus.
10:25And I could grade the offense in the second half a B
10:29and the fourth quarter even an A.
10:32And, you know, I was looking into the stats,
10:34and, you know, they went in the first three quarters,
10:38Jaden went nine for 23.
10:40In the fourth quarter, he went nine for 11, right?
10:43The QB rating in the first three quarters was 48.
10:46And in the fourth quarter, it was 143.
10:48Totally different.
10:49So then I thought, is this a preseason game where he's knocking off the rust?
10:53And what really I think it happened is the first three quarters,
10:58they were calling David Blau offense, under center, play action, huddling.
11:02And the fourth quarter, they went to shotgun, you know,
11:05after that Chad Powers-style run that Jaden had,
11:09they went back to calling the games for Jaden.
11:11So my question for you guys is, does Blau have to call Jaden-style offense
11:16for that offense to play like that?
11:19Or is Jaden going to get better under Blau's offense
11:23because the first three quarters it was a Blau's offense
11:25and he didn't play that well?
11:27I think they're all feeling each other out, man.
11:29Yeah, man.
11:30I don't think the center or in the shotgun made a difference.
11:34I just think late in the game, you wanted to be a little quicker.
11:37But early on, there were some drops.
11:39And if they don't drop those balls, I think you're looking at a totally different game.
