00:04I have to start the conversation off like this,
00:07because I have to get serious first.

00:09The first episode, there's a lot of running.
00:12Yes.
00:13In all seriousness, do you normally kick ass?
00:16Or did you have to prepare to do this?
00:18Because I'm like, I don't think the first five minutes
00:20should be whooping ass.
00:21No?
00:22Well, what do you think it should be?
00:23I mean, we are doing a spin-off of Reacher.
00:25So we got to kick some ass.
00:27We got to come in hard.
00:28But yeah, there was a lot of running.
00:30A lot of running.
00:31Coming into the season, were you already physically
00:34prepared for what would be required?
00:38Or was it something you had to build your body up to?
00:41I was prepared because, of course, I've
00:43been doing Reacher for three years already, or three seasons.
00:46And I don't have nearly as much to do as Alan does.
00:52But I knew that I was going to in this show.
00:54So I certainly prepared, and I knew there was going to be a lot of running.
01:00They warned me ahead of time because they somehow found out that I, I don't know that
01:05they knew that I ran track, but they had maybe seen some footage that we had done in another
01:11season.
01:11And they were like, ooh, she's a good sprinter.
01:14We should take advantage of that.
01:15We should let her sprint all through the entire episode, which is what happened.
01:20I noticed that also because of Reacher and its fan base and its love and you being pulled
01:28into the new series and people get the trends for their energy.
01:32Did you feel a responsibility as an actress to, OK, I want those fans to still feel like
01:38they're a part of the journey, but I also want to create my own lane?
01:41Yeah, definitely.
01:43Of course, we want to pay homage to where we, where we originated, both from, not only
01:48from the show, but of course, from Lee Child's books.
01:50You know, for me, the biggest thing that I was worried about was how do we stay true to
01:55the character that Lee created?
01:57And then who we've been with for three seasons of Reacher.
02:01We can't suddenly make up a new character just because we're making a new show.
02:04So it had to be true for for Neely that we know, but we're just expanding upon that.
02:10We're literally showing you all of the sides of her that that we never got to look into
02:16in Reacher.
02:16And for me, I've lived with her for a long time now.
02:18So it was always there for me.
02:20There was always a feeling that Neely has her own life and she's got her own stuff going
02:26on in Chicago.
02:27Then she comes to save Reacher's ass once in a while and then she goes back to Chicago
02:31to do her job.
02:31So for me, it was just, oh, this show is just us putting a camera on this other life
02:37that she's always had.
02:39And so that's exciting.
