00:00there's still some things as much as the texans have addressed more of the things that we thought
00:03that they needed to there's still some things that they didn't and were you at all surprised
00:07by the things that they didn't in this draft 713-572-4610 i think the big places that i think
00:13of are namely running back depth um what else edge yeah those edge rushing depth i think those
00:21are the main ones some people talked about cornerback i know that they added a they added
00:25a udfa undrafted free agent yeah i have some of those cornerback but they also did not add to
00:31that cornerback depth i i felt that one felt a little bit less urgent but obviously i can
00:36understand people going hey you were incredibly healthy defensively what happens if you're not
00:40how comfortable do you feel i understand that but running back and edge felt like the places where
00:45fairly you could see fairly immediately the places that that person would slot in
00:49and they didn't they didn't draft those and we had had conversations about that were you surprised
00:53by the positions that the texans didn't address i mean i think it's silly to say there wasn't an
00:57element of surprise you know on some of these especially given the the lead up talking about
01:02edge there was a lot of buzz and it wasn't just like speculation it seemed like there was some
01:07reporting uh about you know watch the texans because they want to move up 10 spots and they're
01:11targeting an edge or or the you know this wide receiver or that or maybe uh a running back etc
01:17so
01:18yeah you're gonna be somewhat surprised but i i said it earlier i as far as like the surprise
01:24element i mean you can you you only have a certain number of picks and there's going to be surprises
01:30just every year inherently on some of these picks and and they address some with the you know with
01:37the undrafted free agents for what it's worth you know especially at running back and uh wide receiver
01:42they have a couple more coming in uh so i i think a little bit of a surprise but i
01:47don't have a
01:47problem per se with not drafting a running back or uh an edge rusher the running back one is
01:55interesting because this is a team that i mean nick cassero said it flat out once you add keelan
02:00rutledge on uh on thursday and thursday night he's like yeah we're gonna we're going to run the
02:04football this year and that it was evident that that was the case they've been situating
02:07the way that this team is built for that if that's the case though does this then tell you
02:13that they have a level of belief in jawar jordan because a team like this especially with the way
02:19that the running backs are i don't think that you're using two running backs exclusively for the
02:24entirety of a season i think you need to dip into that third and you look at the depth chart
02:28right now
02:29for this texas team and third on the depth chart would probably be jawar jordan right so if you're
02:35looking at the running back dave montgomery woody marks jawar jordan i think you got british brooks
02:39that's still in tow there i mean you can maybe go to some of the other guys that you have
02:45that are
02:46yeah there's not a lot of guys that i would turn to after those guys and go hey this is
02:51a running
02:51back and what's what's more you look at the free agent running backs and i think the most productive
02:56free agent running back uh especially if i'm talking about like rush yards over expected
03:01for last year was nick chubb are you familiar with him i am familiar with him right like you've got
03:05a 30 year old austin eckler who's had injuries a 30 year old kareem hunt who's a free agent there's
03:10a 28 year old miles sanders if that's interesting like this is one of those where i go and i
03:14know
03:14we knew running back was not going to be a robust uh you know position in the draft but i
03:20was i was
03:20kind of surprised that they did not even just add some some guy within the draft parameters to to
03:25throw in a young guy into that into that uh that room well so the the thing about the running
03:31back
03:31position is we know that they have a lot of confidence in the top two guys now i mean that's
03:36a lock and i think they should it will they should for sure uh you know with david montgomery and
03:40if
03:41there was any question about how they feel about what he marked and he had a good end of the
03:43season
03:44and all that there should be no more question because they didn't draft a running back you know
03:48if they have questions they might have prioritized you know third or fourth round pick fifth round pick
03:53at running back so i think they have a lot of confidence in those two guys we know they're going
03:57to run
03:57the ball everything they've done with the offensive line is about running the ball and you know being
04:02having those nasty guys that you know block and everything so they're going to run the ball
04:06they're making moves to run the ball they have confidence in their top two guys i think it comes
04:10down to the proverbial competition behind that you know they're just going to throw a whole bunch of
04:14two guys already uh noah whittington from oregon running backs coming in josh pitzenberger player of the
04:20year in the ivy league is running back that's coming in they have jawar jordan i think what they're
04:24saying is we love our line we love our top two guys and then there's going to be competition for
04:29that third does this not feel like the team that would just love to have ivy league running back oh
04:33yeah just yeah just the grit of a dude who yes he got a he got a really expensive player
04:39of the year
04:39in the ivy league but he's gritty right like that he's smart i will say that it does it did
04:44make me
04:45feel very uh frustrated to watch though this team pick at 123 and of course at 123 they end up
04:53getting who
04:54did they get at 123 again goodness gracious that's the fourth round that was um where you get
04:58wade wood as the linebacker who uh nick casario basically said flat out like you know his role
05:04like the role that they've envisioned because you know they draft for roles is for frank i was like
05:08oh okay so special team linebacker makes sense right but the pickup before him was mike washington
05:13jr the dude who everybody has been fawning about right there at 122 and the raiders made that jump
05:18over and i it was so hard for you not to then bring that back to nick casario on night
05:24one at
05:25the end of night two even talking about how the two the two picks that they that they moved up
05:29both for keelan rullage and for k mcdonald's it's basically nothing right they're like they view it as
05:34basically nothing those two those two picks that you move up it's not for them some level of trading
05:39up necessarily and i go yeah but the back end result is you move down a number of slots where
05:44you
05:45probably and again i don't know what their what their focus was what their concentration was what
05:49their aim was but it feels like you would have been in much better position to end up with a
05:54mike
05:54washington jr running back that people thought was interesting and you could throw into that room
05:58yeah at that spot if you could but i think that's what they're saying not especially if you didn't
06:03feel like kate mcdonald was going to go in those two picks and you were just like we want to
06:06make sure
06:06to get our guy but on the back end do you then miss out on adding adding valuable depth pieces
06:11to your
06:11team no but but i think that that speaks to like they they felt good clearly with the starting
06:18running backs and the competition that they could bring in at the third running back otherwise he
06:22would have he would have done it he did it multiple times in this draft you know get go get
06:26the player
06:26you wanted so clearly that was not a situation where he wants to go get that guy and then as
06:32far as
06:33that feels surprising that you're not gonna this the way that you're stacking up and making sure that
06:36you have not just starters but depth on the offensive line right uh the way that you're doing that
06:41you did not do that at running back which is also part of that run game i would imagine that
06:45those
06:45two places would be one and then the other place where they didn't add depth is edge which i'm a
06:50little less so i guess concerned for lack of a better way of saying it but i was i was
06:56a little
06:56surprised that they didn't add an edge because this team that is that's the front door of this
07:00operation right will and daniel are going to knock some things down right they're going to make some
07:04things shake but they like rotating guys in and you want to maintain that that you want to maintain that
07:08standard dylan horton i think i feel pretty good about they have guys in the room i just wonder if
07:13they if they have that same level of oomph when you bring in the rotation doesn't it also tell you
07:18they're going to go get derrick barnett it does feel like that i think that's they have their that's
07:22their plan like hey it is it is an incredibly important position you know on this defense and
07:27the defense is the calling card eh you know what rather than a a later mid-round or later pick
07:33let's go with what we know let's go with derrick barnett yeah and spend the money there
07:37to your point right you look at the edge rushers that are just out there that are currently free
07:41agents we've there's dudes that are productive right that you could bring in late we mentioned
07:45joey bosa who's there we mentioned uh aj epinesa dj reader hassan reddick right there's some guys
07:50maybe a little a little bit of age on that you talk about the dudes who are maybe a little
07:55bit uh
07:55younger in this and derrick barnett pops up there right derrick barnett is a dude who is productive
08:00and not quite as old as some of these other guys that we're talking about and so when you get
08:05there
08:05yeah derrick barnett 29 years of age compared to you know some of these 30 31 in the case of
08:11cameron jordan 36 year old dudes you're going hey could you bring them in at edge he's not so far
08:16he's not so old that you couldn't put him in he's a dude that knows the system that you would
08:20not need
08:21to get up to speed you know exactly what you're getting from him in the system it does feel like
08:24you're setting up for that reunion yeah in the edge room i think that's i think that's going to be
08:28a
08:28given just real quick some of the because i know people are wondering about this that don't have the
08:32list uh aaron wilson put together the list of uh undrafted free agents we knew jack stonehouse the
08:38punter that was before the draft uh was coming in uh ivy league player of the year running back
08:43josh pittzenberger uh we talked about that what does he do well as a running back i know you've
08:48gone and scouted him he's gritty he's gritty runs hard smart player i like this i want you to put
08:54together i want you to put together a fake draft profile for each one of these guys as you go
08:58all
08:58right who's the next one stanford cornerback uh colin wright uh you know local guy that's just
09:04you know from missouri cities sure he's he's just going to be able to compete doesn't have
09:08necessarily the you know the measurables uh but just the competitor but he makes plays oh play
09:14maker okay i like that i like that okay all right missouri cornerback steven hall uh signed as well
09:20can't believe he didn't get drafted big time production in missouri yeah this one just fell through the
09:26cracks uh oregon running back noel whittington uh you know here's a guy he's like so go ahead
09:33get it get in your get in your bag no commit commit oh gee all he does is produce yards
09:39does he 6.4
09:40a carry uh gets it done uh maybe one of those guys that because of his size didn't necessarily
09:45translate as much uh there's another one they brought in university of tennessee defensive tackle
09:50dom bailey was signed to an undrafted deal 150 000 bonus to sign with the texans so this is a
09:57guy
09:57that they targeted they scouted they knew that other teams didn't have the same intel so they
10:02brought him in to make sure that they got him look at that look at the draft walk itself giving
10:08you
10:08that reel which is also very fake yeah illinois wrote your sleeves up illinois statewide receiver
10:15daniel sokowitz uh has signed that's definitely how his name is pronounced it's 100 uh he was just
10:22on an undrafted deal you take a flyer sometimes okay yeah that that one you're not excited see
10:26that's you got to have one that you're like i'm not as high on this one yeah that's how you
10:29do it
10:29that's how you do the one more profiles one more if you got it you like smart guys figgy love
10:34smart
10:34guys colgate wide receiver travion trayvon saunders you you you making up places yeah you got dudes coming
10:42from uh coming from toothpaste that's crazy that's right but yeah i was i was surprised that they
10:46did not address some of these i think that there's some there's definitely a move or two free agent wise
10:51that are probably going to come from this but i'm very intrigued to see especially the running back
10:55one hit me in a weird way because i was like hey man this is this is what you were
10:58staking this year
10:59upon is the idea that we're going to run the football i would imagine that you want to be as
11:03robust
11:03as possible there oh yeah and that's right 281 said you can't forget the intangibles john lopez you got
11:08to mention did i say did i mention colgate and yale yeah yeah yeah real real smart guys real real
11:14heady players always in the right place i like
