Global BEV sales hit 71% of all plug-in vehicle sales in July 2026 — about 1.3 million units — their best share since 2022, according to CleanTechnica's tracking. Pure electrics are surging while plug-in hybrids are shrinking almost everywhere except a few holdout markets, as PHEV demand crashes in China and slows in the US following the end of federal tax credits, signaling a global shift toward full battery-electric over hybrid transition tech.

00:0019 percent that's how much of the entire global car market was purely electric in july in spite
00:06of the united states letting us all down unfortunately 1.3 million fully electric cars
00:12in a single month that was growth of 16 year on year if you add plug-in hybrids and then
00:19the number
00:19hits 27 but here's the thing hybrids are actually dying fev sales fell 11 globally in july in spite
00:27of the fact that their tech has been drastically improving this year sales continue to fall while
00:33purely electric car sales actually went up by double digits evs now make up 71 of all plug-in sales
00:42this
00:43year their biggest share since 2022 because i've been saying the same thing on the channel for years
00:47now about plug-in hybrids part of the reason why i want people not to buy them if you're actually
00:52worried about resurvey if you don't care about resurvey then it doesn't matter if you strip out
00:56china though in the united states two markets with their own strange dynamics because this year
01:00china's car market is shrinking drastically pure electric sales surged 61 percent year on year
01:07globally that is not a plateau that is an avalanche 61 percent if you just remove the united states and
01:14china now the model rankings and for the first time in ages there's real news the tesla model y stayed
01:20number one despite delirious dropping by nine percent but the model 3 it crashed 44 percent to just 19 000
01:29units and fell to 11th place its lowest position since january 2018 even the xiaomi su7 at 21 000
01:38units actually beat it now that's almost certainly though a supply problem not demand so expect a big
01:45rebound in september but it opened the door and small cheap evs stormed through it positions three
01:53through seven were all affordable little cars the gili xing yuan which is called the ex2 outside of
01:59china the beauty yen up the beauty seagull the leap motor a10 and the beauty dolphin the dolphin did 26
02:06000
02:07units it's best in nearly a year including 6 500 in brazil alone this is what mass adoption looks
02:15like evs are no longer toys for the wealthy they are actually cheaper in some cases many cases than
02:21internal combustion vehicles on the electric viking website i'll put a link in the description below we
02:27have more articles about electric cars and battery technology than any other website that i'm aware of in
02:32the world so check that out link is in the description and there you'll find our videos and
02:39analysis and articles about everything going on in the ev world the beauty song took second on the back
02:46of exports and the new ultra generation with flash charging and well also watch the leap motor a10 it hit
02:53third in china in july and exports start within months and it's a genuine top five global material type car
03:02meanwhile the only legacy car in the entire top 20 was actually the toyota bz4x at 19th i don't
03:10understand why the toyota version i think the subaru version is better but anyway two records with an
03:15australian flavor the j coup 5 hit an all-time high of 12 000 units driven partly by australian sales
03:22and
03:23the zika 7x did 10 000 its best in 20 months with 1 900 of those delivered to australia
03:32so 20 of global zika 7x sales were in australia that's pretty good now the manufacturer story and
03:39this is the big one leap motor just had its first ever six figure month doubling sales year on year
03:46up 102 percent and nearly caught geely which needed its best month since november 108 000 units to stay
03:54ahead and tesla fourth place in july its worst monthly ranking since january 2018 and counting
04:03plug-in hybrids it fell out of the monthly top five entirely for the first time in nine years
04:07beaten by leap motor toyota set a record with 50 000 units finishing fewer than 100 behind volkswagen
04:15kia set its own record at 44 900 year to date there has been 7.9 million fully electric registrations
04:24biwody leads with 14.8 percent of those tesla holds 11.8 percent geely 8.7 percent the model y
04:32has sold
04:33double its nearest rival and the bronze metal fight is the geely ex2 xingyuan versus the model 3
04:4215 000 units apart this will run the well all the way to the final quarter be interesting to see
04:48which one if the tesla model 3 sales probably will bounce back in september so it'll probably take third
04:52place 10 years ago pure electrics were 0.6 percent of the world market 0.6 five years ago four
05:01percent
05:01last month 19 it's in spite of what's happened with china in the united states this year
05:08the curve is still bending upwards and it's bending upwards very quickly

05:31talking subtitles if you speak one of those languages or you know someone who does
05:36the links are in the description and subscribing in these first weeks will really help me it'll make
05:43an enormous difference to how youtube pushes them out because at this point yeah they haven't gotten
05:47a lot of traction yet it's it takes a while for things to to start but anyway we're putting a
05:53lot
05:54of work into making this getting this content out there making this happen why does this matter
05:58well because the ebay transition is not an english language story brazil is one of the fastest
06:05growing ev markets on earth and bwd is building cars there spain and latin america are electrifying
06:12fast germany is the heart of legacy auto industry that's being disrupted and there's a lot of people
06:17who speak german outside of germany as well and india is arguably the single most important ev market
06:23of the next decade the audiences in those countries they deserve their analysis in their own language at
06:30least i think they do you can already watch my videos on billy billy hundreds of them
06:34i'd rather you watch them on a channel that i actually control though and that's actually up
