00:00What's up GQ, Josh Ayon here. These are the 10 things that I can't live without.
00:09All right, the first essential I think would be the most important to me. In my wallet I always
00:15keep two Polaroids. Now two. It used to be one but I'm not going to show you these. It's my
00:22wife
00:22and my baby. I had a baby a few months ago. I didn't, my wife did. Got to have them
00:26in my
00:26pocket at all times. They're the best. It's so cute. Having a family I think perspective wise in
00:32terms of playing the game of football has changed it. The why too has changed. Why am I doing this?
00:38I think one is to provide for my family. Two it's to show this young baby that when she's growing
00:45up
00:45how hard sometimes life can get and how hard you have to work at certain things to accomplish
00:50something that may be crazy to others. So there's a lot of reasons why I played this game but it's
00:54only added more reasons as to why I do it.
00:59Next essential I've kind of come into this journey within the last few years. Can't tell. I don't
01:05dress very loudly. I don't like to put on a lot of fits if you will but this has kind
01:11of given me a
01:12chance to express how I'm feeling this in a certain day. I've got a nice little collection going and I
01:17hope to continue to add more pieces as time goes on. Just kind of staying away from screens and turning
01:22back the clock. No pun intended. You know being able to look at your watch and tell the time instead
01:26of pulling out your phone and another screen in your face. So this is a Rolex GMT Master II also
01:32known as the Bruce Wayne in terms of the color here. I've got this one. I've got a Pepsi. I've
01:38got a
01:38couple Patecs that are near and dear to my heart. My wife has purchased a few of them for me.
01:44One was
01:44for our wedding so I wear that one on special occasions. I do have a favorite. I bought myself a
01:49watch when
01:50my daughter was born. Patec Pilot Alarm. It's the rose gold edition and it's got a chime on it which
01:56in the watch world that any chime is a pretty big deal but that's that's one I'll only wear on
02:01special
02:01occasions. It has a glass back or a clear back but it does have a case back as well that
02:07I'm going to
02:07get engraved with her birth date on the back. Man hopefully at some point that watch will be hers.
02:15Next one obviously
02:20it's got to be the Wellington also known as the Duke. We learned about the history of the Duke
02:25from Coach Brady in terms of how he got named the Duke Duke Wellington. So this is a something
02:31that's been in my life for as long as I can remember. It's one of my first memories ever.
02:36I was playing catch with my dad at a San Francisco 49ers tailgate. I wanted him to actually throw one
02:41like I you know sometimes when you're playing with a young kid you're kind of soft tossing. I was like
02:44dad throw one. I want you to throw it as far as you can and I ran down there and
02:48he threw it. It was
02:49one of those rubber footballs that kind of had like the raised abrasions on it and had 49ers all over
02:55it and I caught this thing and it roughed my forearms up like almost raw because he threw it so
03:01hard and
03:02so far and I caught it but at that moment there was people in the tailgate that started clapping and
03:06cheering me on when I caught the football. Like I get the chills thinking about it but like that was
03:10the
03:10moment that I was like this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I slept
03:15with that football
03:15and I mean till I was probably 12 13 years old and obviously it's taken me a long way in
03:21life and
03:21has given me so many highs it's given me a lot of lows but it's taught me so many lessons
03:26along the
03:26way too that I do feel like it's a microcosm of life. Some of the things that you have to
03:30face the
03:31people that you get to interact with it's just extremely special to me and it's something that I
03:35don't take for granted. Next essential I can't travel anywhere without one Theragun Pro Plus.
03:44I use this in a constant everyday state with a football because I use this to warm up every
03:49single day. My strength coach Jason Osvart in Buffalo literally continues to hand me one on the
03:55sidelines before games before practices so this is an essential part of my daily routine and to have
04:02the relationship that I do with Therabody and Dr. J reaching back 10 plus years before I was even
04:07with the brand. I was such a big believer in this before it was actually a household name. And then
04:13continuing on that note just in terms of recovery aspect we got the Therabody Jet Boots Pro Plus as
04:20well. This is essential for training camp which is coming up when you're sitting in the dorm rooms. We go
04:27to
04:27the dorms still. We're one of the very few teams that continues to go out and do that. And when
04:31you
04:31walk into our dorm rooms and like the the main common area I mean we've got 12 to 15 guys
04:37in the
04:38boots. It gets the blood blood flowing. Obviously get the compression with it. It's got the infrared
04:43LED lights inside. So a lot of benefits with this and like I said for camp especially throughout the season
04:50yes but for camp this is an absolute must. Next essential which is something that I've come a
05:00long way on. It's a journey that once you start it's hard to stop. I think you know what I'm
05:06talking
05:06about. Golf. It's the most frustrating and infuriating game in the world. You get to a point where you feel
05:14like you're pretty good and then you absolutely lose it. But it's something that again gets my mind
05:20away from maybe what's going on in my world at the time for at least four to five hours. I
05:27don't know
05:27who said this quote but there's a quote that says you don't win golf right. You just go out there
05:31you
05:31play. It's taken me a lot of cool places. I've gotten to golf. A lot of really unbelievable tracks.
05:38I think Oak Hill the east course is one of the toughest most challenging rounds of golf you'll
05:46ever play especially if it's in kind of tournament conditions. I got to play the day after the PGA
05:50Championship and I've never been on a course and wanted to quit the round until that day. I was like
05:58on hole 14-15. I was just trucking through the the rough and it was thick. I felt like I
06:03was walking in
06:04snow. Mind you it's in the middle of May so it's pretty nice at that time. I just remember like
06:09dragging my clubs and walking just super defeated and never wanting to touch a club again. But here
06:15I am still fighting with it. Again it challenges me each and every day. I want to be the best
06:20golfer
06:21that I can be just like I want to be the best quarterback that I can be and the best
06:24father the
06:24best husband. So this is just another thing that that pushes me and something I very very very very much
06:30love to do. My next essential is going to be my Beats headphones. Obviously this is more game day
06:39related. I wear these pre-game on the field. I have to have them on game day. If I don't
06:45I find a pair.
06:47But there's a certain playlist that I like to play before each and every game. It's only five songs but
06:51it like it's timed out perfectly from you know when we have our team prayer to when we go out.
06:57I have to
06:57listen to those five songs before every single game. It gets me in a really good
07:01spot. Gets me thinking very positive thoughts. It's slow old-school music that
07:06I think not many people would prefer before a game but I like to stay in a
07:11pretty calm relaxed state before I go out there because I'm so excited to get on
07:15the football field that this slows my heart rate down and allows me to I think
07:19think more clearly.
07:23All right my next essential is something that is near and dear to my heart, pistachios. I guess
07:30there's a caveat to this. My wife is allergic to nuts so having these in the
07:34house is tough and I have to eat them when I'm on the road. But this is a
07:38obviously a brand called Wonderful. My family grows pistachios and we've partnered
07:42with Wonderful and have our own family brand sub-brand coming out with Wonderful. So
07:47when I see a Wonderful box it just kind of instantly takes me to my family and to
07:51how I grew up. They're so good I mean you can't just like have one you know you
07:56just keep going. I personally like the chili roasted. I like a little spice. The
08:00honey roasted though is also fantastic and they do have chocolate covered
08:04pistachios and if you have not tried chocolate covered pistachios please go and
08:09get some and try them. They are phenomenal. All right next essential. I'm really
08:17weird when it comes to socks. I have to have really fresh pairs if like I can't
08:22wear socks with holes on it and I can't wear a like if there's a logo on the
08:26right and a logo on the left when they're on the outside of the sock I can't
08:29wear them on different socks or different feet and I can't wear the same
08:32logo if they're both on the right. Like I'll put it on and see that I messed up and
08:37there's socks out there that are not with their partner and I cannot wear
08:42them. I have to take them off and I have to go find a pair of socks that
08:45actually works and these New Balance socks are honestly the most comfortable
08:48socks that I've ever worn. I know it sounds brandy but it's the honest to God
08:53truth. A fresh pair of these when I wake up in the morning it's like
08:57someone's first sip of coffee. Like this this just feels right to me. The amount of
09:01socks and shoes that I have in general are it's it's sad to be honest. Like it's
09:07there's too many there's too many and it's a problem that I have but am I
09:12gonna do anything about that problem? Probably not.
09:16Next essential it's on my head right now excuse the hat hair 940 a-frame this is
09:22like my favorite hat of all time it is the best fitting on my head I think it
09:28looks the best on me I feel like I've tried a lot of hats in my life from
09:31little league on you know from baseball I feel like I've worn a hat almost every
09:34single day of my life and a couple years ago the 940 a-frame new errors in
09:38Buffalo so I was able to go there and try on a bunch of different hats and
09:42found this one that I feel like fits me the right way and how a hat should fit
09:45somebody everybody's got their own little taste and their own little flair
09:49some people are our dad caps I call them caps now kidding it's a joke no pun
09:54intended that was pun intended actually three on the back it's got to be the
09:58third one kind of like with my socks it's got to be precise I swear I'm not
10:04that weird another essential is the ring I wear it tracks my sleep it tracks my
10:10fitness don't wear it during games just because it might hurt I wear one of the
10:15silicon rings but yeah it does everything I need it to I check and see how I'm
10:19doing each and every day and I wear it every single day the stat that's most
10:22important to me is my calories burn making sure that I'm getting over a
10:25certain threshold and sets my own like bar like how hard I need to work
10:29throughout the day in order to accomplish that goal and if I don't
10:32accomplish anything throughout the day if I could accomplish this goal I feel
10:34pretty good it does track the sleep and I used to be obsessive about it but
10:40having a child that may wake up at two three four five in the morning I haven't
10:45looked at the sleep score one time just so I don't feel bad about myself but I
10:49feel pretty good throughout the day
