00:05Let's just round that up to 38% market share.
00:09EV sales, 38% market share in Germany.
00:12That's the highest, I believe, ever.
00:15And incredibly, the Tesla Model Y has bounced back
00:19to become the best-selling electric car in Germany.

00:23Welcome to the channel.
00:24I'm Sam Evans.
00:25We all heard about Tesla's demise in Europe
00:27and it appears that that was, well, not correct after all.
00:33The second quarter of 2026 saw plug-in EVs
00:36at 37.7% market share in Germany,
00:40up from 28.6% in Q2 of 2025.
00:44EV share is growing pretty strongly.
00:47The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling electric car in Germany,
00:51in fact, for all of the last three months.
00:55Now, if you look at the last three months of sales of EVs in Germany,
01:00Model Y didn't win by March, but it did just win.
01:0310,401 Model Ys were sold over the last 92 days, I think it was.
01:09Second place was the Volkswagen ID.3.
01:12ID.3, 10,082 sales.
01:15In third place, Skoda's Elrock with 9,740.
01:20Skoda Enyaq in fourth at 8,943.
01:23So you can see here that, yes, the Tesla Model Y was in first,
01:26but the Volkswagen grid were in second, third, and fourth.
01:30Next was the BMW iX, followed by the Volkswagen ID.7.
01:34Then you got the Mercedes-Benz CLA, Tesla Model 3.
01:37So Tesla's not too bad.
01:38If you put them both together,
01:39they sold nearly 16,000 cars in total over the last three months.
01:44Not a lot, to be honest, in Germany.
01:45But in fact, I think Tesla's probably sold more EVs in Australia
01:50during the last three months than it did in Germany.
01:52But still, it is still a good bounce back for the company.

02:16So what was after the Model 3?
02:18You've got the Volkswagen ID.4 and the ID.5,
02:21then the Mini Cooper.
02:22Surprise, the Mini Cooper sales.
02:23That's kind of a pricey current.
02:26Anyway, people like that design, I guess.
02:29Cooper Tavaskin was next with nearly 5,000,
02:31followed by the Audi A6 e-tron.
02:33Cooper Born, Audi Q6 e-tron, BMW iX3.
02:38iX3 sales, you'd think they'd be a lot higher than that.
02:40I'm guessing they're just constrained by production.
02:42Must be.
02:44Hyundai Insta, the BMW i4, Citroen EC2, Mercedes EQ8,
02:50and the Leap Motor T03.
02:54Intriguing to see, guys,
02:56that there is almost no Chinese cars in this list of EVs.
03:01Now, don't get me wrong, the plug-in hybrid list,
03:03there's heaps of Chinese cars.
03:04But the EVs, I mean, you've only got Leap Motor there.
03:08There's no MG.
03:10There is no BYD.
03:13There's no XPeng.
03:14There's no Zika.
03:16No NIO.
03:18I mean, very interesting to see that Chinese EVs
03:23not really getting any traction in Germany.
03:26Plug-in hybrids are.
03:27Yeah, part of the reason is because plug-in hybrids
03:29are not getting taxed.
03:30But that's about to change, by the way.
03:31They're about to apply the EV tax on Chinese-made vehicles
03:35to plug-in hybrid Chinese-made vehicles as well.
03:38So that will change.
03:39It's going to be tricky for some of those companies.
03:41So the big news here, though,
03:43is not whether the Chinese are dominating in Germany.
03:45Who really cares, to be honest?
03:46The big news here is just the fact that EV sales are increasing.
03:50Nearly 40% market share in Germany.
03:52That's without affordable Chinese EVs.
03:55There's not yet.
03:56I mean, if you look at the price of Chinese EVs in Germany,
03:59they are literally double or more than double the price
04:03that they cost in China.
04:05Double or more than double.
04:07So that's really what's holding back, I think,
04:10more EV adoption in Germany.
04:12But still, EV prices continue to go down,
04:17and that will push adoption even more and more.
04:20So the reason this matters, you know,
04:22Norway's obviously 99% or something like that,
04:25but Germany's a much bigger car market than Norway.
04:28So these are the kind of car markets we need to go all in on EVs.
04:32I mean, the UK is now over 33%, 34%.
04:35We just need to get them up to that 50% point,
04:38and I think then people are going to start going,
04:39well, okay, it's time to give up internal combustion.
04:42It's time to just go all in on EVs.
04:43It's going to happen very, very quickly, I think.
04:46The automakers that are not ready for this,
04:48not ready for, you know, 80% plus EV sales,
04:52they're going to have a real terrible time
04:54over the next five years.
04:55It's going to be really difficult for them.
