00:00I was thinking, oh, something should be done with these letters, because there's some interesting stuff in there.
00:03So, 2017 happened to be the 100th anniversary of Armistice, World War I.
00:10So I wrote a one-man show about that, using those letters, and went around the school division to perform
00:19it.
00:20And this was quite well-received.
00:23I was still thinking there was a lot more letters and something should be done with them.
00:29Well, as time went on, technology developed, and it became possible to scan these pages, these letters, and have software
00:40analyze what they said.
00:42Because one of the problems was it was difficult to make out some of this handwriting.
00:50It was shaky and yellowed.
00:53And so, it's a software developed to do this.
00:58I started to scan the pages and then have the software analyze it.
01:02And it wasn't perfect.
01:03I still had to double-check it.
01:05But it was enough to speed up the process significantly.
01:10So, McCaskill War is a collection of those letters transcribed from their original handwritten pages into TIF written.
01:20And with all the pictures and postcards that these gentlemen sent along.
01:24So, if you want to have a primary source material of World War I, this will be for you.
