00:00I love getting older. Yeah, things are going to change and things are going to sag, but, like, you're alive.
00:09My favorite part of creating Rare genuinely was because I didn't know so much about what, you know, was happening
00:18to me.
00:19Meaning, I was seven years old in a makeup chair. That's just not normal and weird.
00:23But I was around it my whole life, and I never knew how to do it.
00:27And so I have videos of me and my friends where I'm making tutorials I wanted to post on YouTube,
00:36but they're, like, really fun to play with, and I just wanted to be a part of the conversation.
00:42But I knew if I was going to enter the world of cosmetics, it needed to also have a meaning.
00:49First, I want products that are great, easy to use, not complicated.
00:54And on top of it, we've been able to create the Rare Impact Fund, which is thriving, and that makes
01:02me happiest, for sure.
01:04It's so nice to be able to donate, and that is very important.
01:08But having tangible evidence that we've been doing things for the communities that we connect with,
01:16and we're constantly looking for new people to start ideas with and see what we can do and help in
01:24the mental health space,
01:26because it's extremely important to me.
01:27I think for me, I still am discovering certain parts of my brain, and my attitude towards mental health is
01:35constantly growing,
01:36and I think it's important to grow with it and understand the logic behind it, even when you're in, you
01:44know, maybe an episode,
01:46which I've, you know, been able to be grounded in and rooted in my DBT work and working with my
01:54therapist.
01:54There are so many ways, but also just creating the coping skills yourself is really important.
02:00So I just try to work on it.
02:01So it's every day.
02:02I think I see the light every day.
02:04I just get closer and closer and keep chasing it.
02:07I think I have had people in my life that have unconditionally loved me,
02:13and even when they were not understanding exactly what I was feeling,
02:18I felt seen and I felt really loved.
02:21So they were confused, but once I found out, you know, got my diagnosis and I feel free and they
02:29understand and it made sense.
02:32So just sticking it out with someone, being next to them in their hardest moment means more than, you know,
02:40a thing you could do.
02:46Getting older has been so fun.
02:48I'm not scared at all.
02:50I don't get that feeling.
02:52I love getting older.
02:53Yeah, things are going to change and things are going to sag, but like, you're alive.
02:59You know, I think age is just a number in many ways.
03:01Half 2016 glam and 2026 glam.
03:05I gotta be honest, the 2016 throwbacks and all of it is so much fun, but people get really intense.
03:13I always make this joke where I think people want to freeze me in time to that period of my
03:19life.
03:20I don't know, maybe it was, well, it was probably more interesting because I'm now chilling, which is great.
03:26But it was just hectic.
03:28It was such a hectic period in my life.
03:29And of course, I had to rock a smoky eye.
03:32I was trying to be cool.
03:34Now I do a smoky eye and it just looks a little different.
03:36I think people always want me to look the way I did and that's just not going to happen.
03:42I don't know what I'd say to my younger self, but I have a 13-year-old sister.
03:46My sister is so much cooler than me.
03:48She's 13 and has more confidence than I do.
03:51So she is actually so thrilled to try things, but she also knows she doesn't need it.
03:56So I think I would just tell her, like, you're beautiful exactly how you are.
03:59But try anything you want.
04:01She loves coming to the office and having a field day and that makes me happy.
04:06So overall, I feel like I would just say have fun and enjoy it.
04:12If it's making you feel something, you know, like, oh, I need this to be pretty.
04:18That's not really true.
04:19I think everyone's pretty and beautiful the way they are.
04:23You know, the older I've gotten, the more I've realized that it is super important to take care of your
04:27skin.
04:28And so I like facials and I love things that help it just look better and that feels better.
04:33I'm just going to go in a little bit like that and then blend, blend, blend, blend, blend.
04:38I usually will use, you know, a primer, whether it's the illuminating primer I have or actually I don't really
04:46use the primer as much as I used to because I just use like two pumps of the foundation, kind
04:52of brush it all over.
04:53And then I use bouncy blush and I use my eyebrow gel and my mascara and lip oil.
05:00I actually was terrified to release the foundation.
05:03We had one before previously and it definitely needed some love.
05:10I was very proud of it.
05:11It worked so well with certain skin types.
05:13And we had, you know, 48 shades and it was just really important to make it very inclusive.
05:20But at the same time, I had to let it go and then start something new.
05:26But I kind of felt inspired by Hung, who's one of my makeup artists.
05:31The way he applies the foundation makes it look airbrushed and beautiful and soft.
05:37So that's what I wanted the foundation to feel like, which ultimately when he puts it on me and it
05:43works, it makes me very proud.
05:45I wore it on my wedding day.
05:47Yeah, it was, it was also kind of good for crying, I realized.
05:53I did a lot of that.
05:54So, and it held pretty great.
06:00I think it's very important for me to space things out.
06:04I think when I was younger, I felt like it was 90 miles an hour.
06:08It was just fun.
06:09And I felt, I only felt good when I would work.
06:13Now I, I need to be sane.
06:16Now I need to genuinely take time to appreciate my life.
06:22And that's why I took a step back from music.
06:25So as much as yes, I've been busy.
06:28I think I've balanced it really well.
06:37My husband, he happens to be extremely more advanced in that world than I am.
06:44And I really appreciate his advice and his guidance.
06:47But he never took control of anything.
06:49If anything, I wanted him to.
06:52And he just said, no, I want your decisions to be your decisions.
06:57And it was very easy.
06:59I don't think I would make every album with him or always do music with him.
07:04But I loved it.
07:05And we have a memory now.
07:07We've done something together.
07:08I think we're still in the honeymoon stage.
07:11I love it.
07:11It just feels so wonderful to have a partner that actually genuinely listens and just meets
07:17you right where you are, whatever that mood or day looks like.
07:22And that's all I could ask for.
07:23I just need him and I love him.
07:26So it's pretty great.
07:27He is a very joyful human.
07:29He's very fun, spontaneous, and he loves to talk.
07:34He took a boat to see me in London.
07:38He's very romantic, but also equally stressful if you're the wife.
07:41We're just hoping he's safe.
07:43I have a handkerchief.
07:44I'm crying.
07:45I'm, you know, waving him off and I'll be seeing you.
07:50Yeah, it's my life.
07:54This is the sixth birthday of Rare.
07:57It actually has a cute meaning to me because Only Murders, season six, I just finished.
08:02And it was so fun to, you know, have a refreshing new season and have it be completely separate
08:09from other places.
08:10I have to be honest, it was pretty hard being away from home.
08:14But I was with my other family.
08:16What if I talk to ghosts?
08:20Uh-huh.
08:21Um, say more about that.
08:24I just ask Meryl, like, acting stuff and, like, some of the choices that she's made.
08:28And I always make a joke and say, what would Meryl do?
08:31She's the best.
08:32She's, like, just not only is she the goat, she happens to be the nicest person you'll ever meet.
08:38And she's always laughing, she'll be singing, and even if she's, you know, has on, like,
08:45has downtime, she's always doing something, like knitting.
08:49So cute.
08:50She's so cute.
08:51They've shown me by example what it means to have dignity, to have class, to understand
08:57that the world doesn't always have to be a serious place.
09:01I'll ask questions and I have genuine thoughts and they don't make me feel silly for asking
09:06them anything.
09:08Look, they all have families and they've lived life in a way that I never have.
09:15So I think maybe that's why I'm not afraid of getting older because it, people have made
09:21it look really good.
09:25What am I supposed to see in this decade?
09:27I just want to be happy.
09:28I just hope I'm still doing things that I love and I hope that if I stop loving what I
09:33do
09:34that I will stop.
09:34I actually never really place value in what I do because it can destroy you instantly.
09:40I like to be appreciative of everything that comes my way.
09:44So I just hope for great things.
09:48That's about it.
09:50I love where I am now and it feels incredible.
09:53I feel very lucky and I enjoy every day.
09:56I love where I am now and I love where I am now and I love where I am now
09:56and I love where I am now and I love where I am now and I love where I am
09:56now and I love where I am now and I love where I am now and I love where I
09:56am now and I love where I am now and I love where I am now and I love where
09:56I am now and I love where I am now and I love where I am now and I love
09:56where I am now and I love where I am now and I love where I am now and I
09:56love where I am now and I love where I am now and I love where I am now and
09:56I love where I am now and I love where I am now and I love and I love where
09:56I am now and I love and I love and I love and I love and I love and I
09:56love and I love and I love and I love and I love and I love and I love and
09:57I love and I love and I love and I love and I love and I love and I love
09:59and
