03:01Hello, everybody, and welcome to this episode of the Fro Wrestling Podcast.
03:05I am Dr. Fro.
03:06I'm very excited to bring this episode to you because we just saw the closing of AAA, Lucha
03:12Libre AAA's TripleMania 34 Night 1, and I can't wait to get into it before I do that.
03:17If you have questions, comments, something you want me to touch on in the future episode,
03:21the best way to do that is through the Fro Wrestling Sound Offline 267-642-1160, and I
03:26will get to those questions or comments in a future episode.
03:29In the meantime, we're going to go through TripleMania, all the happenings, what went
03:32down, and cover the rest of the day's news and rumors.
03:35We're going to start with the day's news and rumors.
03:36That way, I can really get into TripleMania.
03:38One, Samantha Irvin, former announcer for WWE.
03:41When she announced her departure from WWE and she left there, she was given a 24-month
03:45non-compete clause.
03:47And unlike the WWE talent contracts for the wrestlers, this one does not come with salary
03:52without pay.
03:53So she's been going 24 months with nothing, and her contract apparently runs out.
03:58That no-compete clause runs out in October.
04:00In the meantime, she's been working on independent music.
04:03She's got a song called Make Me that she released earlier this year.
04:06She wrote over the COVID time period.
04:08And once her deal is up in October, she's going to be free to do whatever she'd like.
04:13And I would imagine she may want to go and do something with her husband, Ricochet, in
04:17AEW.
04:18Because one of the big reasons she wanted to leave WWE in the first place, yes, her husband
04:22was leaving, and I'm sure that was part of it.
04:23But the other thing was, is that she wanted a more substantial role on screen.
04:27She didn't just want to be an announcer.
04:29She wanted to either be a manager, an advocate of some sort, get involved in some way, shape,
04:33or form.
04:34And WWE simply wasn't interested in that.
04:36Now, maybe she'll get that opportunity now, once this non-complete clause runs out in October,
04:40to actually contribute more to the show.
04:43Got to send out some well wishes to somebody who's very special to the wrestling community.
04:47I remember him debuting for WWE in 1989.
04:50Prior to that, he was in parts of Florida, did little stints in the NWA and things like
04:56that, little regional territories back in the territorial days.
04:59But I'm talking about Fred Ottman, known throughout the world to other people by the name of Tugboat,
05:03Typhoon, Shockmaster, Big Steel Man.
05:06All those names apply.
05:07He's a friend of mine on Facebook.
05:10Got to send him out some love.
05:11Fred Ottman posting that he is in the hospital.
05:13He was taken to the emergency room.
05:15We don't really know what the severity of his situation is.
05:19He did post a message online, hoping to get well very soon.
05:23So, prayers, well wishes, get well soon.
05:26It's going out to Fred Ottman, aka Tugboat, Typhoon, and Shockmaster.
05:30And I throw the Shockmaster in there because no matter how much he fumbled coming through
05:33the wall, it was still thoroughly entertaining.
05:35And that's what wrestling is all about, is entertaining the fans.
05:37He has always done that.
05:39I'll be honest with you.
05:40I always thought that they did a short feud with he and The Undertaker.
05:43And I thought they missed the boat.
05:44I thought he and The Undertaker had such great chemistry.
05:47And this is right when The Undertaker first got to WWE and they didn't stick with it.
05:51They pulled a plug on it relatively early in The Undertaker's career.
05:54I would have loved to have seen more of that.
05:55I always thought he didn't get enough of a main event opportunity.
05:58I thought he had that level of skill and then eventually moved into being one of the
06:02natural disasters, became a WWE Hall of Famer as one of the natural disasters with
06:05Earthquake, John Tenta.
06:07But I really thought early in his WWE career, he really had more to offer than they gave him
06:11a chance, but Vince was hung up on the Hulk Hogan bandwagon, you know, the Hulk Hogan train.
06:16And I understand that.
06:17I do.
06:18But I've always thought the world of this guy.
06:19He's a world-class human being.
06:21Such a nice guy online.
06:23Always shares wonderful insights.
06:24So tugboat, get well sued, Mr. Ottman.
06:27We are all pulling for you, bud.
06:29And feel better.
06:30Ric Flair in the news again.
06:32For two reasons.
06:34One, he's suing a digital company for signing a, basically giving rights to his name and
06:41likeness in exchange for a six-figure payout that he was never received.
06:46So he's suing for $10 million over his name and likeness being used.
06:50That's one thing he's in the news for because he keeps making these ridiculously horrible
06:54decisions.
06:55Clicking on emails and giving away his personal information and having bank accounts getting
06:59hit by fraud and that kind of thing.
07:01But this is just one more layer to it.
07:03But then on top of that, he's also in the news because he said some very confusing comments.
07:08He talked about how he's back in WWE.
07:11He and Triple H hugged it out.
07:13They made amends and he'll be at the Royal Rumble.
07:16Insinuating that for whatever reason, he would be able to, it's implied to some people he'll
07:24be at the event and he's somehow, maybe Legends contract or something, signed with WWE.
07:28I don't know if I buy that.
07:29September of 2025, he made it clear he was still under contract to AEW, even though he
07:34hadn't made any appearances since the Mongo McMichael moment when Mongo McMichael passed
07:39away.
07:40No word really on when that contract was going to run out.
07:43He didn't really do much for them in the terms of the entire contract.
07:46We stopped hearing about his energy drinks and things like that.
07:49So maybe he got freed up by AEW.
07:51Maybe his contract ran out and now maybe he's finally migrating back to WWE.
07:55I kind of hope that's the case because let's be honest, the guy's done a lot for the business
07:59and I get it.
08:00He has a litany of issues.
08:03I understand that.
08:04I'm not giving him a pass in any way, shape or form.
08:07But I do think that he could do more for the business in WWE than he can in AEW, at
08:12least
08:12right now in terms of what he's capable of doing.
08:14And heaven forbid he tries to wrestle again.
08:16I think WWE is where he needs to be, where somebody can get him to temper those notions
08:21and stay out of the ring.
08:22It's time for Rick to hang it up for good.
08:24From there, let's get into Triple Mania because I'll be honest with you, I thought this was
08:28a really great night one.
08:30Not overloaded with matches.
08:31There's a good number, but nothing too super consequential because you're saving all that
08:35for tomorrow night.
08:36And I cannot wait for tomorrow night.
08:38After everything I saw tonight, tomorrow night is going to be phenomenal.
08:40The first thing I noticed when you see the stream, and you can go to YouTube right
08:44now, Lucha Libre AAA and check it out.
08:46Now, the place is jam-packed in Las Vegas.
08:49It looked amazing.
08:51It looked like the fans are thoroughly engaged, very into the matches.
08:54You could hear them reacting to the big moves all throughout the night.
08:58The very first match is a six-person tag team match.
09:01I'm calling it a six-person or a trios match, but this is mixed gender.
09:04And also, I don't know how to say this.
09:06There are regular-sized wrestlers.
09:09There are mini-sized wrestlers and women wrestlers in one match where we have Adelicious
09:15and Masqueria Sagrada and mini-vikingo.
09:20They defeat Lady Shiny.
09:22They defeat Jack Cartwheel and mini-abysmo-negro, which I thought was a great way to start the
09:27show.
09:28I was a little surprised that mini-vikingo is the one who gets the pin by doing an inward
09:34450 splash on mini-abysmo-negro, but it hit on all counts.
09:39It was very exciting to watch.
09:41I really enjoyed everything they did with the match, especially considering what we're
09:45talking about here.
09:45Some of those smaller talents, especially down in Mexico, Masqueria Sagrada and Masqueria
09:52Dorado, both of them, are just incredible.
09:56These guys know how to go, and I love seeing them wrestle.
09:59So this was really, really solid.
10:01From there, we get a tag team, four-way tag team elimination match.
10:05Los Americanos end up winning by last eliminating Fraxium.
10:09Before that, they eliminated the LWO and the Tokyo Bad Boys.
10:14And the Tokyo Bad Boys, some people I saw online were like, who are these guys?
10:18They typically wrestle for a Japanese company called Gleet, but they have done matches for
10:24AAA before.
10:25This is not some new tag team they put together.
10:28And I did see reports ahead of time there were going to be some unsigned wrestlers going
10:31to AAA and performing for Triple Mania.
10:34Maybe these guys aren't signed and are just doing a one-off.
10:37I don't know.
10:37I'm pulling for some of that tomorrow night when there's still an open challenge for the
10:41AAA World Tag Team Championship for the War Raiders.
10:43I'm hoping we get a real surprise in that match.
10:46But this tag team match, dude, the action doesn't stop.
10:50It's non-stop.
10:51It's going and going and going.
10:52Super physical, high-flying, crazy stuff.
10:55Really great match.
10:56And when it got down to Los Americanos versus Fraxium, I could have watched that for another
11:0045 minutes.
11:01It was really action-packed.
11:03Tons of high spots.
11:04Tons of real physical stuff.
11:05This was Smash Mouth Wrestling.
11:07It was amazing.
11:08From there, a match between multiple women for the winner getting Arena Duranas Championship
11:14opportunity at Worlds Collide, we see Fabi Apache, Hiedra, and Natty all fall to Roxanne
11:23Perez of the Judgment Day, who will now get a championship opportunity at Worlds Collide.
11:28And I think this was the best move for them for her.
11:31They teased some dissension in AAA after the match with Hiedra and Flammer.
11:38Flamer, Flamer, I don't even know how they pronounce it anymore because depending on whether
11:41you're listening to English announcers or the Spanish announcers, you can get that either
11:46way.
11:47But that match is going to be phenomenal.
11:50And I would not be surprised if Roxanne Perez wins the championship at Worlds Collide.
11:54And then she's in Judgment Day with the Women's World Champion, the Intercontinental Champion,
11:58the AAA Women's Champion, Reina Duranas Champion.
12:01You know what I mean?
12:02And they just start racking up titles.
12:03If Don Mysterio retains.
12:05And we'll get to that in a little bit.
12:07But I think it was the right move to put it on Roxanne Perez.
12:10Even though I'm a little frustrated that a lot of these matches that include WWE people
12:13and AAA people, it seems like WWE people are the ones who come out on top all the flipping
12:17time.
12:18From there, three-way match, La Parca, Laredo Kid, Mr. Iguana for the AAA, oh gosh, I forget
12:26which championship it was now.
12:27I apologize.
12:29But middleweight champion, I believe.
12:32I could be wrong.
12:32I think it was middleweight championship.
12:34But La Parca is the champion going into the match.
12:36Again, tons of high spots.
12:38People love Mr. Iguana.
12:39If WWE doesn't sell more merch for that guy, they really need to feature him more on mainstream
12:44WWE television because he is so over.
12:46You could be moving those Iguana dolls everywhere.
12:49The match was great.
12:50Solid top to bottom.
12:51I really thought Laredo Kid was going to come out as the winner, especially after he put
12:54on such a great showing in Raw during the tournament.
12:57That did not happen.
12:58La Parca retained.
13:00From there, six, I was going to say six-man tag team, AAA, the AAA World Trios Championship.
13:07I'm still struggling with the Trios being the name.
13:09I'm old school.
13:10I still want like six-man tag team champions.
13:13I like that.
13:14It has a better ring to me.
13:15But we get the champions, Psycho Circus.
13:19They're going to be taking on Los Peros del Mal.
13:22We're talking about Daga.
13:23If you don't know who Daga is, he used to be the fiancee or maybe even the husband.
13:27I forget if they actually got married to Tessa Blanchard.
13:29As well as Berto and Angel.
13:32And they are accompanied by Carmen Petrovich.
13:35This match, fantastic.
13:37The only thing I didn't like is the ending.
13:39The ending of the match, you have interference on the outside, a distraction for Psycho Clown
13:46who battles all the way into the back.
13:48And you end up leaving two guys in the ring from Psycho Circus who the numbers game is going to
13:53catch up.
13:53And I'll tell you what.
13:54The one dude in Psycho Circus is, I mean that boy is enormous and that dude can move.
13:59Diving off the turnbuckles, hitting huge splashes and things like that.
14:02That guy's got a great skill set.
14:05But in the end, we see new AAA World Trios champions as Daga, Berto, and Angel pick up the win
14:13and take the titles home.
14:15In the main event, stipulation is, it is Rey Mysterio versus Omos.
14:21If Rey Mysterio wins, Omos can never wrestle for AAA again.
14:25If Omos wins, he is reinstated.
14:27If you didn't know, he was suspended previously because of an altercation he had.
14:31And this was the big match of night one.
14:34This is the main event.
14:35And here, I got mixed emotions about this.
14:38Rey still looks like, oh my goodness, he looks like he's still a 20, 25-year-old guy working out
14:43there.
14:43I don't know how he does that at his age.
14:46His gear tonight looked very reminiscent of the Halloween Havoc purple gear that he wore back in the day in
14:51WCW 1998.
14:53It was really interesting to see that.
14:55And everything about Rey's performance tonight was perfect.
14:58Omos, after all the years that he's been doing this now,
15:01I really feel like his skill set should have improved more at this point.
15:05And I'm not talking about, like, lumbering around the ring.
15:07The guy can move.
15:08He can.
15:09His physique is fantastic, especially for a guy 7'4".
15:12He looks amazing.
15:14But he just doesn't do anything impressive.
15:16Regular elbow drops, big boots to the face, splashes in the corner.
15:20I guess that's some things that are staples of big guys.
15:23But I just want to see something out of the guy that matters, that's different, that has a better flair.
15:28The match was not bad.
15:29It was well-constructured for somebody like Omos, who doesn't have a lot of...
15:33He's not as athletic as he'd like him to be.
15:35And he can't fly around the ring, or they don't let him fly around the ring, one or the other.
15:39The finish of the match, I mean, we have El Grande Americano at ringside, as is Dom Mysterio.
15:45And, of course, Dom Mysterio gets involved, pulls Rey out of the ring towards the end, brings El Grande out.
15:51He attacks Dom.
15:53It leads to Dom getting a chair and attacking El Grande Americano.
15:57That, I'm sure, is going to play into tomorrow night's match, where I actually thought...
16:01My opinion has changed.
16:02I thought El Grande Americano was going to win for weeks, months.
16:05And now I'm actually teetering.
16:07I'm thinking Dom might retain, because of the Roxanne Perez thing.
16:10Because you could parlay that into Dom and Roxanne, versus Liv and somebody else, if you split up the Judgment
16:16Day.
16:16Otherwise, you could have four champions in Judgment Day.
16:18Everybody's got a belt, except for JD.
16:21Poor JD.
16:22But I think that might make more sense, in a lot of ways.
16:25So, I'm really not sure what's going to happen tomorrow night.
16:27But, in this case, El Grande Americano gets laid out.
16:30So, that's going to play into tomorrow night.
16:33Rey Mysterio gets his hands on the chair, waffles Omos over the head after a ref bump.
16:37And I really thought they were going to give Rey the win.
16:39But, after a great sequence of moves, 6-1-9, splashes off turnbuckles, all that stuff,
16:45Omos does regain control, boot to the face, the choke slam, and he pins Rey 1-2-3.
16:51And he is back in AAA.
16:53He hits about three elbows on Rey, which I thought was kind of silly.
16:57I thought maybe it would bring somebody out.
16:59And, honestly, the word was, going into this show, that there are going to be television executives in Las Vegas
17:04watching this show.
17:04And that's why they did this in Las Vegas.
17:06If that's the case, this would have been a great spot, when he's attacking Rey after the match,
17:10to turn the lights off, hit the gong, and have The Undertaker be standing in the ring.
17:13Since you know he's in the building, because he's the lead booker.
17:15And that would have been a great closing element.
17:17He didn't have to get physical, because I know he doesn't want to, but just have him standing there.
17:21So, the guy, like, backs down and leaves the ring.
17:23I think would have paid in spades, especially when it comes to the corporate executives watching the show.
17:28I think they would have loved that star power.
17:30That being said, Omos leaves.
17:32And a few seconds later, they have a stretcher in the ring.
17:34They put Rey in a neck brace.
17:35They strap him down to the stretcher.
17:37And Omos decides to turn around, charge back to the ring.
17:40He beats everybody up.
17:42Rey's laying there on the stretcher.
17:43He can't move, because his arms are strapped down.
17:45Omos smiles at him on the ring apron, tears off the neck brace,
17:49and then picks Rey up in the stretcher and chokeslams him through a table.
17:54Phenomenal way to go to end the program.
17:56Don Mysterio looks shocked.
17:58He really did.
17:59Almost to the point you question whether he was wondering if his dad was okay,
18:02which was very strange.
18:04This was a great way to close out the show.
18:06It adds so much intrigue to tomorrow night.
18:08I can't wait to see it.
18:09This is probably one of the few episodes we've done that's exclusively,
18:13focused on the AAA show.
18:15And I'm not sad about the fact that we're doing this one,
18:17because this was really good stuff.
18:19I, in a lot of ways, think this may be one of the best shows I've seen
18:22in any company for quite a few weeks.
18:25This was great.
18:25Scale 1 to 5.
18:26This is like 4 3⁄4 stars, about as close as it gets.
18:29I thought everything on here was amazing.
18:31I really did.
18:32The action was great.
18:33And by the way, the one person I got to talk about,
18:36who I don't really bring up very much, is Jack Cartwheel.
18:39He's never been on the main roster in WWE.
18:41He's in AAA.
18:42AAA, that dude can move.
18:45I'm sorry.
18:46That guy deserves a much bigger platform.
18:48I don't know why they're leaving him toil down in AAA.
18:51Love his moveset.
18:52Love his athleticism.
18:54Love the acrobatic stuff he does.
18:56I'm looking forward to someday seeing Jack Cartwheel in at least NXT,
18:59hopefully on SmackDown or Raw.
19:00That's somebody who I think you could give a big level title to,
19:04and people would buy into it.
19:05So my kudos on Jack Cartwheel for right now.
19:08That's all the time we have for this episode.
19:10Check back with us next episode.
