00:01So I think everyone comes out of their shell this time of the year and we all after a cold
00:09winter, we all celebrate the first colour of spring and Floriad recognises that timing.
00:16So spring has sprung a little early this year. Has that thrown a spanner in the works for you at
00:23all?
00:24Oh, I think there's still lots, plenty of colour on display here as you can see behind me.
00:30We, yes, it has sprung early and that is completely out of our control, but we encourage everyone
00:37to continue to come and experience the event itself.
00:41Can you take me through a little bit about the preparations for Floriad?
00:47When do you sort of start planning and planting for the show?
00:52Yeah, the concept plan is discussed and packaged up in 18 months prior to the event itself.
01:00And us, our gardening team receives the designs in early, mid-February to late March and then
01:08construction starts March to April.
01:12Such an incredible, you know, beast of preparation to deal with.
01:18This is your first year as the head gardener, Kira.
01:22What sort of pressure comes with this role?
01:25Yeah, there is an immense amount of pressure as we do need to ensure that there is something
01:30to show.
01:31Thankfully, the weather conditions have been kind to us this year, especially being my first.
01:38And I'm sure there's lots to learn along the way as we look into 2027.
01:44Yeah, absolutely.
01:45So this, so Floriad starts tomorrow.
01:49What's the highlight for you for the festival this year?
01:53What do you hope that people will really get out to experience?
01:58I think this year's focus is the theme of Feast of Flowers.
02:02So there's a lot of food, wine, dining experiences to be had.
02:08I truly encourage families from all around Australia, all the world to come and enjoy this
02:14spectacular event and make memories with their family and loved ones along the way.
