00:03Canberra's sky lit up in colour this morning as hot air balloons took to the sky.
00:09The balloons lifted off at dawn before flying over Lake Burley Griffin.
00:13The events drew thousands of people from the capital and beyond,
00:17with families rugging up against the early chill to watch the spectacle.
00:21Others kayaked for views from the water.
00:23It's beautiful, it's lovely getting up early in the morning and it's super exciting that they took off.
00:27It's a great time to come to Canberra, I tell people all the time this is the time to come.
00:32This year's feature balloon is Finlay the turtle, which received big cheers from the crowd as it took off.
00:38The balloon and its pilot travelled from the UK to raise awareness about turtle conservation efforts.
00:44There's not many places in the UK that we can take a balloon over such a big lake like this,
00:47so hopefully we're going to get some nice pictures and some nice videos of the balloon going across.
00:51He says he hopes Finlay brightened people's morning.
00:54Just giving joy and smiles to everybody, I mean there's lots of crazy things going on in the world at
00:58the moment,
00:58so if we can just give a bit of joy and happiness to everybody by seeing Finlay smile across Australia,
01:02then that's job done for us.
01:04The Balloon Spectacular is Australia's longest running hot air ballooning festival,
01:08and will continue for the next nine days.
01:11We'll be Canal 20 gefunden on As .
