00:00I have all the goals for this season.
00:01MVP, Super Bowl, win a lot of games, and have fun.
00:06What's up GQ, this is Joe Burrow.
00:09These are my 10 essentials.
00:20We got a hat.
00:21I like to grow my hair out sometimes,
00:24and sometimes that comes with a little bedhead.
00:27So usually, take a shower, put the hat on backwards,
00:31or a headband, that kind of makes my hair
00:33the way I want it to look.
00:34What makes a good hat to you?
00:35Well, it can't be too bulky, because I have a small head.
00:38If it's too wide, big, looks odd.
00:45I like it to be firm, so it keeps its structure
00:50when it's on my head.
00:51I probably have 30, 40 hats or so.
00:54If there's ever a cool one that I see, I'll buy it,
00:57or a lot of them are gifted.
00:59Big hat guy.
01:02My next essential are my sunglasses.
01:05Rimless is pretty much my style.
01:06That's a lot of trial and error on that one.
01:11So I have blue eyes.
01:12When I was a kid, I went to the high school football camp,
01:17and everything I did when I was little,
01:19I had sunglasses on,
01:20because my eyes are very sensitive to light.
01:23I was the only kid in the camp with sunglasses on,
01:25and Sam Smathers, our youth coach,
01:27decided to nickname me Shady.
01:29Ever since then, I've kind of just worn sunglasses,
01:32because number one, I thought it was cool.
01:34Number two, my eyes are very sensitive, so sunglasses.
01:43My next essential, the football.
01:46It has brought me many good fortunes in life.
01:49Wouldn't be here talking with you guys without this football.
01:53I can throw it very accurately,
01:55kind of far, not as far as most.
01:58I usually keep one in the back of my car just in case.
02:01You never know.
02:02Now, weirdest place I've played football in a cornfield in,
02:07I think that was Logan, Ohio.
02:09I really liked Mike Vick.
02:11I liked Randy Moss.
02:12Those were the two jerseys I had when I was little.
02:15I really liked Reggie Bush.
02:17I really liked Drew Brees.
02:19Those are the four.
02:20Those are my four favorites.
02:21What do you think you'd be doing if you weren't playing football?
02:23I like to think that I would have figured it out in a different sport.
02:26I just liked playing sports with my friends
02:29and hoped that would work out.
02:30Do you have any goals for this season?
02:32I have all the goals for this season.
02:34MVP, Super Bowl, win a lot of games, and have fun.
02:39Next up, my chess board.
02:40I started playing chess in elementary school
02:43when it was indoor recess.
02:45If it was raining or snowing or whatnot,
02:47my classmates and I would often play chess.
02:50Specifically, my friend Ash,
02:52who I haven't talked to in a while.
02:54Ash, I hope you're doing all right.
02:55We would play chess.
02:57That kind of started my love for it.
02:59And then I didn't play a ton for a while.
03:01Got back into it.
03:02During COVID, I went down the whole rabbit hole of the openings
03:04and the YouTube videos and whatnot.
03:07And got pretty decent at it.
03:10And maybe one day I'll try to go to some tournaments
03:13and improve my skills greater than what they are right now.
03:17What is, like, your other thing?
03:18I use the London, and I use the King's Indian.
03:21The measly pawn can become whatever you want it to become.
03:27I mean, I'll play it before games.
03:28Does it help my decision-making process?
03:31I don't know.
03:32But it certainly forces you to critically think, plan ahead,
03:38plan your moves to put yourself in a good position for the future.
03:41Next essential, Body Armor Fit.
03:44It's a sparkling sports drink.
03:46It's a drink that's healthy for you,
03:48so you can drink it all day.
03:49A little pick-me-up in the day with the caffeine.
03:52You want to take it at lunch,
03:53get you through the rest of the workday.
03:55Perfect.
03:56You're a little dehydrated.
03:57You've got caffeine and electrolytes.
03:59It's all-day hydration.
04:00Take it in the morning.
04:02Take it in the evening.
04:04Maybe not at night before you fall asleep
04:07because it's got the caffeine,
04:08so you're not going to sleep great.
04:14Good stuff.
04:17Another one of my essentials,
04:20the sneakers.
04:21When I hurt my toe this year,
04:24I was very limited in footwear options,
04:27and these, fortunately, were wide enough,
04:30comfortable enough to house my injured toe without pain.
04:34They're pretty dang comfortable and soft and sturdy.
04:38They saved me some discomfort this year.
04:42Next essential, I got my lip balm.
04:45My lips get dry, man.
04:47It's, uh, they've always got dry.
04:49When I was a kid, I used to lick my lips so much that my mom used to make me
04:54put band-aids on my lips
04:56because they would get so chapped and red, and that was very uncomfortable.
05:00So I've been putting chapstick on since I was a little child.
05:03I needed it because my lips would crack, bleed, all of the above.
05:08Didn't need as much lip balm in Louisiana or lotion, that's for sure.
05:15When I travel, if I can fit everything into the duffel, that's ideal.
05:20I hate packing.
05:21That's one of the things that I passionately hate in my life,
05:25and the duffel, as long as it's a quick trip,
05:29saves me a lot of very uncomfortable feelings in my brain.
05:37I don't like counting out all the underwear and socks
05:40and making sure that I have extra underwear and socks in case things go wrong.
05:45I don't like carrying the suitcase to the car.
05:48I don't like carrying the suitcase to the plane.
05:49I don't like anything about it.
05:51The rolly suitcases are bulky and annoying to deal with,
05:58so the duffel bag, it's great.
06:02I always have my bracelets on.
06:04Is there yourself a sentimental person?
06:06No, I don't think I am a sentimental person.
06:08This is kind of all the only thing that's sentimental to me in reality.
06:12A lot of people that are special to me have given me these along the way.
06:17I have one from every stage of life.
06:20They're with me, I play in them, I'm wearing them all the time,
06:24shower, going to bed.
06:25I haven't taken some of them off in over 10 years.
06:29They mean a lot to me because they come with memories of places and people.
06:34This band here was from the Bengals.
06:38It is a band I associate with my first year in the NFL, which means a lot to me.
06:43This one, somebody special to me gave this to me on my high school graduation party.
06:48It used to say Bowser on it.
06:50Character from Mario, but that's kind of faded after 10 years.
06:55This one is from my high school football senior year.
07:01They gave this to us.
07:02I've had several of these breaks, so I've had to make those custom a couple times.
07:07This one, somebody special to me gave this one to me.
07:11And then this one, it's pretty self-explanatory.
07:15Never take them off.
07:20Another essential, got my water bottle.
07:23Always got to stay hydrated.
07:25You know, I'm working out quite a long time throughout the day and often early in the morning,
07:29so you got to stay hydrated.
07:31Make sure you're getting the nutrients that you need to perform to your highest level.
07:36And establishments could do a much better job of creating refillable water stations
07:41for people like me that carry something like this around.
07:47Okay, guys, this is about it.
07:50Thanks for watching.
07:52Hopefully, it was kind of interesting.
