World record set for mass Vulcan salute at London's Science Museum

Hundreds of Star Trek fans set a new world record for the most people performing a Vulcan salute at the same time on Tuesday (September 8) evening. 934 participants at London Science Museum performed the salute simultaneously, holding the gesture for one minute. The salute was made famous by Leonard Nimoy's character Spock. It involves raising the hand with the middle and ring fingers parted. Some people also shouted the traditional phrase to accompany the salute: "Live long and prosper".

The successful attempt was confirmed by an official Guinness World Records adjudicator. Actor Martin Quinn, who plays Montgomery Scott in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds", attended the event and thanked those taking part.
