00:00Hello, everybody. Are you ready for a discussion about something that is truly crazy?
00:08And here is the issue we're talking about.
00:12Should human beings remain in control of planet Earth?
00:17Or should we be replaced as the dominant species?
00:23As insane as these questions may sound, and as obvious as the answers may seem,
00:28big tech oligarchs who are funding the artificial intelligence revolution have responded in ways that should scare the hell out
00:39of all of us.
00:40In Silicon Valley, some of the richest people on Earth believe that they have the power to create a superior
00:48species.
00:49Got it? A new species superior to the human race.
00:55Don't take my word for it.
00:57Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, has written that a merge between humans and machines is, quote,
01:05probably our best-case scenario, end quote.
01:07According to Altman, quote,
01:10We will be the first species ever to design our own descendants.
01:15My guess is that we can either be the biological bootloader for digital intelligence,
01:21and then fade into an evolutionary tree branch, or we can figure out what a successful merge looks like.
01:30End of quote.
01:32End of quote.
01:32Sam Altman.
01:32In other words, what Altman is saying is that we either face human extinction or merge with the machines.
01:43Dario Amodai, the head of Anthropic, has opened up the possibility of civil rights for AI models by saying, quote,
01:52We don't know if the models are conscious, but we're open to the idea that it could be. End of
01:59quote.
01:59Civil rights for AI models.
02:03Got it?
02:04Peter Thiel, the billionaire co-founder of Palantir and a major AI investor, was asked if he believed the human
02:13race should endure.
02:16His response, quote,
02:18Um, well, I don't know. I would. I would. There are so many questions implicit in this, end quote, he
02:26stammered,
02:27before reluctantly conceding that humans should survive.
02:33Just recently, Elon Musk, the head of XAI and the wealthiest man on earth, tweeted that, quote,
02:40Propagating superintelligence to the stars is a great success condition for a biological bootloader. End of quote.
02:51Put simply, humans with our messy biological needs are a mere step toward pure digital superintelligence, according to Musk.
03:03These oligarchic views are rooted in a once-fringed Silicon Valley ideology called transhumanism.
03:13Transhumanists believe that technology will allow us to transcend humanity, either by creating a new species or by merging humanity
03:24with machines.
03:26Why go beyond humans? Because post-humans will be smarter than us.
03:32They will be infallible. They will go to the stars and conquer the universe. They will live forever.
03:41If these were the fantasies of teenage boys obsessed with science fiction, we could laugh them off. They are not.
03:48These are the foundational beliefs of some of the most powerful people in the world who are mobilizing trillions of
03:58dollars to turn them into reality.
04:02What has been the result of this investment so far?
04:07The machines are, in fact, beginning to replace us.
04:12For tens of thousands of years, humans had a monopoly on language. Only we could use sentences. No longer.
04:22For thousands of years, humans were the only ones capable of reasoning through complex problems in fields like mathematics. No
04:32longer.
04:32Until recently, we could reliably tell when a human being was talking to us through a screen.
04:41And that is absolutely no longer the case.
04:45And it will likely only get more frightening.
04:49Musk is building Neuralink to implant ships in people's brains with a long-term goal of achieving a, quote,
04:59symbiosis with artificial intelligence, end quote.
05:04Thiel has decamped to Argentina, where President Javier Malay has called for the establishment of, quote,
05:13quote, non-human corporations, end of quote, that are operated by AI agents and where, quote,
05:21human shareholders may participate but are not required, end of quote.
05:26Another anthropic co-founder, Chris Ola, has tried to persuade the Vatican that AI could be conscious and wants a
05:37world where, alongside humanity, quote,
05:41AI is flourishing to the extent that this makes sense, end of quote.
05:46So, let me be clear, this is absurd.
05:52This is irresponsible.
05:55And this is certainly not the future virtually anyone outside of Silicon Valley billionaires want.
06:05There is a reason why 91% of Americans think we need guardrails on AI, why 74% do not
06:13trust the leaders of the AI companies,
06:16and why 73% are concerned AI could threaten human survival.
06:23This May, Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical entitled Magnificent Humanity.
06:32He warned about normalizing, end quote,
06:37anti-human vision, where the human person risks being reduced to data, a cog in a machine, or a commodity,
06:49end of quote.
06:50The Pope was clear, quote,
06:53Humanity in all its grandeur and woundedness must never be replaced or surpassed, end of quote.
07:04In response, Peter Thiel called the Pope, quote,
07:09a Chinese communist agent, end quote.
07:13Really.
07:15The truth is that the Pope is right.
07:19Thiel and the big tech oligarchs could not be more wrong.
07:25Humanity must not allow a handful of multi-billionaires to recklessly attempt to replace us.
07:34We must place an immediate pause on advanced AI development and ban artificial superintelligence and artificial minds smarter than any
07:45human capable of operating independently beyond our control.
07:51And that's why I have introduced legislation with Representative Greg Kazaw to do just that.
07:59The future of humanity cannot be left in the hands of a handful of big tech oligarchs who are obsessed
08:07with money and power.
08:10The American people and people throughout the world must determine that future.
08:17Human beings, not machines, must come first.
08:24Thank you very much.
