00:00Well, it is a massive moment in terms of German politics.
00:03It sent shockwaves across Europe, across the world,
00:06this Saxony-Arnholt election.
00:09And when you drill into the data, the research on this,
00:12you see important messages being delivered.
00:17First of all, you see in this election,
00:21turnout absolutely exploded.
00:23So turnout was close to 80%.
00:26It was close to 18 points higher than five years before.
00:30And you can see there absolutely massive turnout.
00:34And there was some speculation.
00:34Well, what did that mean?
00:36Was that an anti-AFD vote?
00:38Would it work against the party?
00:40In actual fact, what you can see here from the research
00:43is that people who had previously not voted
00:46had come out in big numbers to actually support the AFD,
00:52including a lot of young people.
00:54You can see here, the AFD by a country mile,
00:58the most popular party with young German voters
01:01in that part of Germany.
01:03And you can see the left party there, second,
01:06but some way behind.
01:07And you can see in terms of the AFD's vote,
01:09who voted for this party.
01:1161% of workers is an unbelievable number.
01:1653%, so a majority of those aged 35 to 44,
01:20a majority of those aged 45 to 59,
01:24a majority of entrepreneurs and a majority of men.
01:28We did not expect this to happen in this manner.
01:32Of course, we will have to accept the result.
01:35These are the rules of our democracy.
01:38But with the day of yesterday,
01:41not only things have changed in Saxony and Hall,
01:44but all over Germany.
01:46The result is going to have an impact on the international scale.
01:56We see from where the congratulations came yesterday.
02:03This shows how much attention the results provoked yesterday
02:09when 60% of the electorate with a high participation of voters
02:16giving their vote
02:23vote for a party that questions the democratic institutions in our country.

04:11In fact, what you can see here is older voters in Saxony-Arnhalt
04:18actually were the least likely to support the AFD.
04:24And in terms of the final results, well, this is what happened.
04:29Close to 44% of the vote for the AFD.
04:33The Conservatives absolutely collapsing their vote share more than halving.
04:37A very distant second place there.
04:40It looks like the Social Democrats may have scraped third place,
04:43just ahead of the left party, just ahead of the Greens.
04:45And the BSW party, the left-wing Conservative party,
04:51actually, it seems, scraping some seats over that 5% minimum threshold,
04:57which would mean, and you require a majority here, 42 seats is what you need.
05:03Well, you can see the AFD, it looks like we'll get 39,
05:05so they're three short of a majority.
05:08The BSW getting five could be enormous in terms of if there is a deal done.
05:15But of course, we'll have to wait and see how that all plays out.
05:19And the AFD's rise to become the most popular party nationally across Germany,
05:24clearly backed up in this regional vote.
05:29Responsibility is something that we as the alternative for Germany are aware of.
05:35We take this very seriously and not only in the state level,
05:51but also within the federal level.
05:57What we aim for is a government contract.
06:02And we think that with a distance of 10% that we have between the alternative for Germany
06:10and the CDU, the CDU is not going to be able to win federal elections.
06:17We hope that for the next federal elections, we will reach at least 40%.
06:24Concluding, as you can see, based on the results,
06:27Germany is looking for a change in politics.
