00:02Vice President J.D. Vance says he wouldn't call the U.S. conflict with Iran a war and he won't
00:08say when the fighting could end. Vance made the comments Thursday during his first appearance at
00:13a White House press briefing. Asked how much longer the conflict could last, Vance rejected
00:18the word war. I wouldn't call it a war. Right now there is no active shooting. I recognize there
00:23have been places where this has flared up. Major combat operations, again, major combat operations
00:29lasted for about six weeks. And since then, we destroyed, of course, their nuclear facilities
00:35with Midnight Hammer. With Epic Fury, we destroyed their defense industrial base for producing weapons
00:41and also a lot of their conventional military. And then we made it harder for them to rebuild that
00:45nuclear program. But when you ask when will this end, you're asking me a question like when will
00:51the Iranians stop shooting at ships? I think the reality is I don't know the answer to that question.
00:56You'd have to ask the Iranians. Vance was also asked about Iran's claim that a U.S. strike this
01:01week hit a wedding party, killing four civilians and wounding dozens more. He says he's extremely
01:07skeptical of that account. The U.S. military says it's investigating and that it does not target
01:13civilians. And the economic impact of the fighting continues to grow. The national average for diesel
01:19hit an all-time high this morning, $5.85 a gallon. That's up 17 cents in just two days as
01:26the Iran war
01:27disrupts global energy markets and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
