00:02After threatening more strikes just hours earlier, President Trump is now saying a peace deal with Iran could be just
00:09days away, calling it a great settlement of the war with Iran.
00:13That's where we begin this morning. Trump claims Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Muttabah Khomeini, has agreed in principle to a
00:21framework for peace that would extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
00:25That's a sharp turn from Thursday morning when the president was warning of new attacks, even floating the possibility of
00:32taking Karg Island, the hub for most of Iran's oil exports.
00:37It's a very strong memorandum of understanding. That is a little conceptual, but it's something that's going to get done.
00:44And if it doesn't get done for any reason, which I can't imagine that not happening, they want to sign
00:48it as much as I do or more.
00:50I would say they want to sign it more, maybe a lot more, but it's a very detailed memorandum of
00:56understanding, also agreed to by many other countries that have great influence over them.
01:01And everybody wants it done. So it's going to get done.
01:05Trump says Vice President J.D. Vance could travel to Europe within days for a signing ceremony.
01:11The proposed framework, a 14-point document, would reportedly extend the ceasefire for 60 days, reopen shipping through the Strait
01:20of Hormuz, and ease some sanctions on Iran while negotiations continue.
01:25Iranian state media has also published details of what it describes as a draft version of the memorandum.
01:32But this morning, Tehran is not confirming the deal is done.
01:35Iran's foreign ministry says no final agreement has been approved and accuses Washington of continuing to change its demands.
01:43That skepticism follows a week of escalation that saw U.S. warships fire Tomahawk missiles at Iranian targets.
01:50Iran respond with attacks around the Gulf, and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remain heavily disrupted.
01:56For now, questions remain about whether this is a breakthrough or just the latest step in a negotiation that has
02:03repeatedly appeared close before falling apart.
