A sacred text was banned from the Bible — yet it described the deep ocean floor centuries before science could. What did Enoch actually see?

00:00There's a book the church banned 1600 years ago. For most of that time, nobody cared.
00:05But this one book refused to die. Then, in 1947, everything changed. That year, the Dead Sea Scrolls
00:12were discovered at Qumran. Inside that ancient library, in 11 separate copies, they found the
00:17book that had been sentenced to death. Why did the church throw it out? Because its content was
00:21considered dangerous. The book is called the Book of Enoch. And what it claims to describe has
00:26haunted scholars for 2000 years. First, who was Enoch? According to the Bible, he was the
00:32great-grandfather of Noah. He lived 365 years, then he didn't die. The text says God simply
00:38took him. And the Book of Enoch is the record of what he saw during that time. The most
00:42disturbing passage isn't about angels. It isn't about the final judgment. It's a description
00:47of the bottom of the ocean. Remember two numbers, 200 BC, and 1977. Every strange thing in this
00:54video comes from those two numbers. Where is the book today? In northern Ethiopia, in the
00:59Oxum region, in the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion. That collection of manuscripts hasn't
01:04left that building for over 400 years. When Rome removed the book from its canon, the Ethiopian
01:08Orthodox Church refused to follow. They kept it in their scriptures. So today, if you want
01:14the complete Book of Enoch, there's one true source, those manuscripts. Now here's the first
01:18strange thing. How deep can ancient people dive? Even the best free divers could only reach
01:23about 30 meters. The seafloor averages 3,800 meters. The deepest point reaches nearly 11,000
01:30meters. Between them, there isn't just distance. There's absolute darkness, and hundreds of
01:35atmospheres of pressure. Before 1977, no living person had ever seen the bottom of the deep
01:40ocean with their own eyes. That's the first impossible thing. Because the Book of Enoch,
01:46chapters 17 through 19, describes the seafloor in specific detail. It doesn't say, it's a dark
01:51place. It gives materials. In chapter 17, Enoch is carried to a place beyond the sea.
01:57Above it are waters, below it are waters. The ground there is dark stone, smooth and cold.
02:03In chapter 18, he sees pillars of fire falling from the depths of the earth. Beyond them stands
02:08a great house built of ice and crystal, surrounded by walls of fire that never melted. The house
02:12has a door he cannot open. An angel tells him inside are the angels who once married humans,
02:17sealed within. Enoch never explains it. He just records it. Like someone on the scene,
02:23writing a report. Now here's the part that makes your hair stand up. Let's match those
02:27descriptions against modern oceanography. First, dark, smooth, cold stone. That's basalt.
02:34The ocean. Floor is almost entirely basalt. Humans only confirmed that with deep sea drilling
02:40in the 1960s. Second, the pillars of fire. In 1977, the submersible Alvin, exploring the
02:46Galapagos rift, saw hydrothermal vents for the first time. Two years later, cameras captured
02:51black smokers, jetting superheated fluid at nearly 400 degrees. A 2000-year-old text calls
02:56them pillars of fire. Third, the meeting of the water above and the water below. Seawater seeps
03:02into the basalt, is heated by the earth, and erupts back into the sea. That cycle is still
03:06taught in every oceanography textbook. Three descriptions. Three matches. You're thinking
03:12this can't be coincidence. But what comes next is even stranger. The truly unsettling part is what
03:18happened in 2020. The Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology went to the South
03:22Pacific Gyre to take sediment cores. That region is the most barren stretch of ocean on earth,
03:27sometimes called an ocean desert. By all logic. Nothing should live down there. Below tens of meters
03:33of sediment, they drilled into rock hundreds of millions of years old. That's when dinosaurs still
03:38walked the earth. And inside this ancient layer, they found living microbes. Not fossils. Living cells.
03:45Given nutrients, these cells could even begin dividing again. But slowly. A single metabolic cycle
03:51could take thousands of years. The lead researcher described their state like this, not really alive in
03:56the usual sense, but not dead either. The text had said the deep holds things that are still breathing.
04:01Science dug up things that are still breathing. Now, before you jump to ancient prophecy, let me
04:06give you some cold water. The real answer is far more interesting than ancient people having visions.
04:11First, ancient people had never seen the ocean floor. But they had seen volcanoes. Around the
04:17Mediterranean, there were volcanoes everywhere. Black lava, fire shooting into the sky. Moving a volcano to the
04:23sea bed. Requires no magic. Just imagination. Second, by then the Greek myth of Tartarus was already
04:30widespread. A place beneath the earth and sea, sealed by metal gates, holding defeated gods.
04:35A door that cannot be opened wasn't new. It was public material. Third, and the most important,
04:41survivorship bias. The same book also says the sun rises through one of six eastern gates and sets
04:46through one of six western gates, 364 days a year. That claim is wildly wrong. The book contains
04:52hundreds of descriptions that don't match reality. Nobody repeats those. But the three that do match
04:58have been quoted for two thousand years. So it isn't that Enoch saw the ocean floor. It's that we,
05:03two thousand years later, aimed his words at the ocean floor. But that doesn't mean the text isn't
05:07breathtaking. A person two centuries before Christ, in a house with no electricity, no glass,
05:13no submarines, pieced together a picture. Of the deep sea using volcanoes and legends. It took
05:18humanity two thousand years and a titanium pressure vessel to actually see that picture. Between the two,
05:23there isn't inspiration. There's an entire industrial revolution. And here's what should genuinely chill you.
05:29We assume strangeness lives only in ancient books. Then in 2020, reality dug out a rock, hundreds of
05:35millions of years old, with something living inside it. Taking one breath every thousand years.
05:40Waiting, from before the dinosaurs died, all the way to today. Is the thing up here, watching us,
05:45aware of us. We have no way to know. But that thousand year breath is real. A person in 200
05:51BC wrote a
05:52vision. A person in 2020 dug up reality. And so far, reality has been winning.
06:05a dream start with us.
