Closing a 117-meter breach was easy. The last 3 meters? Pure chaos. Here's why the water fights back hardest at the very end.

01:43So closing the breach is not a matter of simply dumping rocks into a hole.
01:47Engineers have to read the depth of the water, the velocity of the flow, the condition of the riverbed, and
01:51the shape of the gap, then choose their method.
01:54Sometimes they build a working road from the banks, pushing machinery forward toward the dragon's mouth.
01:59Sometimes they seal the gap from the sides, gradually raising the underwater floor.
02:03Often, they combine both.
02:05And the material matters too.
02:07Big boulders are heavy enough to stand against the current and form a stable skeleton.
02:11But between those boulders are gaps, small channels that water sneaks through.
02:15So you need smaller rocks to fill the cracks, then fine material and anti-leak layers to seal it tight.
02:21It's like building a wall, big stones hold the shing, fine material blocks the gaps.
02:26Lose either, and the wall fails.
02:28So why not just dump a mountain of giant rocks and be done with it?
02:31Because heavy machinery can't simply drive into the middle of a flood.
02:35Workers must first build a stable platform from the bank, then inch forward.
02:39And even a boulder, dropped onto an unstable base, will be rolled away by the current before it can settle.
02:44The first hundred meters weren't just sealing the gap.
02:47They were building that road to the last stretch.
02:49At the very end, it becomes a race, a race between two speeds.
02:54How fast the workers can place material, and how fast the water can rip it away.
02:58If scour wins, every loji drop is swallowed.
03:01Only when the filling out paces the washing can they seize the moment and slam the dragon's mouth shut.
03:06But even then, it's not over.
03:08The new dam looks solid on the surface, but deep inside it's full of voids.
03:12Water can still seep through, grain by grain, carrying away fine particles and carving a hidden underground channel.
03:18That's called piping, and it can silently collapse a dam from within.
03:22So after closure comes reinforcement, sealing, anti-leak treatment, and constant monitoring to make sure the water stays on the
03:28right side of the wall.
03:29The final truckload of stone makes the gap vanish on camera.
03:33But the real fight, the one nobody films, is against the water you can't see.
