00:00Hey, how y'all doing? Everybody good?
00:01Everybody good. Thanks for joining us.
00:03Listen, I love y'all. I love y'all.
00:05I am a fan. I do watch.
00:08I do pay attention. I do hear everything
00:09that you guys do say and talk about.
00:11So I just want to say it's an honor to be with you guys.
00:14Man, it's an honor to have you, man.
00:15So can you tell us a little bit what you got going on Wednesday
00:17for the fans with DraftKings?
00:19Well, for one, Wednesday,
00:21I'm giving out free gas. The location
00:23on where the gas will be available for those
00:26that are in Miami, it'll be from 10 to 2,
00:2810 a.m. to 2 p.m.
00:30The location is going to be giving out Wednesday.
00:31And listen, I'm helping everybody fuel up.
00:33I'm helping everybody fuel up down here in Miami
00:37for the start of football season.
00:39So wherever you have to drive,
00:40if you're not a Dolphin fan,
00:41if you have to travel anywhere outside of Miami
00:44to go watch a game, I'm going to make sure
00:47everybody in the state of Florida,
00:48if you have time to come through,
00:50you have gas to do so.
00:52Ocho, I just want to thank you personally
00:54because you did a great job recruiting
00:56for the Heat this year.
00:59Thank you for that.
01:00Thank you for that.
01:01Did I not guess everything right except LeBron?
01:04I was two, three months in advance.
01:07I was two, three months in advance.
01:08I can't give away my sources.
01:10I think the admin who leaked,
01:12I think LeBron was coming to Miami as well.
01:14Honestly, I think LeBron was coming here.
01:16But the admin that leaked it a little bit early,
01:18a tad bit early, being a little too hasty,
01:21made him pivot and go to Philly.
01:24I'm standing on it.
01:25I hope that's not the case
01:27because I don't want an intern
01:28like being the guy who cost us LeBron James.
01:31But how fired up are you to have Giannis,
01:33to have Klay for this season,
01:34like the new buzz to team up with Bam?
01:36What do you think about this upcoming Heat season?
01:37I'm excited.
01:38I'm excited.
01:39For me, obviously, for those who know
01:41and have been watching me throughout the years
01:43on Nightcap on the show,
01:44I haven't been much of a basketball fan.
01:46But the fact that I've had to pay attention
01:47to the game of basketball
01:48now that I've been doing Nightcap
01:50and having to talk with it with Unc and Iso Joe,
01:52I've become a fan of the game
01:54and understanding the nuances
01:55and being able to talk basketball.
01:58So now that I've become a fan,
01:59I actually enjoy it
01:59and become more of a student in a sport
02:02and trying to learn how everything works
02:03outside of people just running up and down the court.
02:06And now I'm excited for the season.
02:09I have a better understanding of what I'm watching
02:11and why they're doing certain things.
02:13So I understand that when we're playing
02:15in the spacing for Klay,
02:16it's going to be so great
02:17because inside the post and the block
02:19is going to be occupied
02:21with Bam and Giannis
02:23allowing Klay to do what he's always done.
02:25And we don't need Klay to look like he did at Golden State.
02:27We don't need that.
02:28And a wide open Klay can hit shots.
02:30He can create.
02:31I mean, obviously, Hardaway Jr.
02:33and the rest of the supporting cast
02:34is going to be phenomenal as well.
02:36And I look at us
02:38in a totality of competing in the East.
02:43I think we're going to do well,
02:45even though the East is kind of loaded now.
02:49You know, with Boston, obviously,
02:51they're good.
02:52Philly now has improved.
02:54The Knicks.
02:55But I think we can make a run.
02:57I think there might be one more splash.
02:59There might be one more splash
03:01that Spolstra and Pat make.
03:04I'm not sure if it can still happen,
03:06but it might be one more splash.
03:07And just know I said it first if it does happen.
03:10So you think that they got
03:11one more harpoon out there
03:13for a possible whale down here?
03:15Yeah.
03:15Yeah.
03:16One more.
03:16One more.
03:17E-Roy, that scoops is galore, dude.
03:18Can you believe it?
03:19I think they're just going to get another big
03:20because, you know,
03:21they do need somebody to come off the bench.
03:23Some depth.
03:24Yeah.
03:24Okay.
03:25Some depth.
03:25So that's really going to be it.
03:29Some people say,
03:30what about Kyrie?
03:38You like that suggestion.
03:40Well, the problem is,
03:41is, you know, I like Wiggins.
03:44Okay.
03:45I like Wiggins.
03:46Yes.
03:47And I think you talking about Wiggins,
03:49Bobby Portis,
03:50you might have to give them up.
03:53And that's where I'm like,
03:56I don't think you give up Bobby Portis
03:58because I don't think you give up Bobby Portis.
04:00I think there are other pieces that you can give up
04:03to be able to get Kyrie
04:05and someone who's exceptional,
04:07great at facilitating when he wants to create.
04:09He can create on his own,
04:10but he can be great at running the ship.
04:14Right.
04:14I mean, I don't know.
04:15I don't know.
04:16You would probably know better than me
04:17because your knowledge of the game
04:18is much more at an expertise level than mine is.
04:22I'm just starting out, honestly.
04:24Well,
04:24I just know the basics.
04:26Well, I want to ask you about what you do.
04:29And that's wide receivers.
04:31Yes, sir.
04:32And I'm going to say this.
04:33One of the problems that I have with wide receivers now
04:37is they can run,
04:39they can get open,
04:41but they can't catch
04:42because as soon as they get hit,
04:44their hands stop working.
04:45And back when we played,
04:47Yes, sir.
04:48that was identifier of who could play the position
04:51and who couldn't.
04:51And who can't.
04:52Right.
04:52And so there's nothing to separate them.
04:54So you got all these fast guys
04:56running around the middle of the field,
04:58knowing they can't get touched.
05:00One hand in the air.
05:01Yes.
05:02Being pretty.
05:03Hey, we used to take notes.
05:05Oh, 55 in camp.
05:07I mean, 85 in camp.
05:09He think he can one hand it.
05:10Yeah.
05:11Let's see that second week of camp
05:12when somebody lay him out.
05:15So how do you separate
05:17the wide receivers?
05:19Because, you know,
05:20they going in there like
05:21they don't have to worry about nothing.
05:23Yeah.
05:23And then when it gets to critical times in the game,
05:26their hands stop working.
05:27Yeah.
05:27The funny thing about it is
05:29the receivers are separating themselves.
05:31You know,
05:32there's a certain it factor that you can't coach.
05:34There's a certain it factor that you can't teach.
05:36And the ones that are the best,
05:37the cream of the crop,
05:38they separate themselves on their own.
05:40The Jamar Chases,
05:41the Justin Jeffersons,
05:42the JSNs,
05:43the Poole Nakulas,
05:44the Devontae Adams,
05:45who is still going.
05:46You got some young bulls that are coming along.
05:48Luther Burden,
05:49you know,
05:52Christian Watson,
05:53right?
05:53Christian Watson.
05:54Did I say that right?
05:55I think so.
05:56Come on, Green Bay, CJ.
05:57Green Bay.
05:58His name is Watson, right?
06:00Yeah.
06:00Yeah.
06:01Hey,
06:02those dudes are separating
06:04Emeko Buka
06:05down in Tampa Bay.
06:06So you can tell
06:07who the cream of the crop is.
06:08And I call those receivers
06:09that make their
06:10offensive coordinator job easy.
06:12Because when I really need it,
06:14and I need you to line up,
06:15and I don't want to have to scheme
06:17or script you open,
06:18I need you to get it off the muscle.
06:19Those are the few players
06:21that can do it.
06:22Now,
06:23everybody's not able to do that,
06:24and I heard you talk about it before.
06:25That's where
06:26offensive coordinators'
06:27expertise come into play,
06:29having the scheme players open
06:30that don't have the skill set
06:31to be able to get open
06:32on their own
06:33and man-to-man.
06:34Chad,
06:34this Dolphin season,
06:36everybody thinks
06:36is going to be tough,
06:37but what could maybe make it fun
06:39is Malik Willis.
06:40He's got, like,
06:41all these rookie receivers.
06:42How tough is it going to be
06:43for him to, like,
06:44bring all these kids along with him?
06:45Chris Bell comes back
06:46quick from the ACL.
06:48They like the kid at Texas Tech,
06:50but what are you thinking
06:51with Malik's first year down here?
06:53Is it going to be a tough one?
06:54It's going to be tough, boss.
06:55It's going to be tough.
06:56I can tell you one reason
06:57why the Miami Dolphins
06:58went and got Malik Willis
06:59because when Jordan Love
07:00went down,
07:01you understand how well
07:02he looked in Green Bay,
07:03how he kept that ship afloat
07:05and was able to steer them
07:06in, you know,
07:07with a couple of wins
07:07until Jordan Love got back.
07:09But you also have to understand
07:11what Malik Willis had
07:12at his disposal
07:14when he did take that ship over.
07:15He had a quality group
07:17of receivers
07:18that had played before.
07:19They're like a four-by-one team
07:21and everyone had their own niche
07:23and what they did extremely well
07:24in that offensive scheme.
07:26You know,
07:27now you come to the Dolphins.
07:28Now,
07:28I do like the receivers
07:29that we do have,
07:30but they are young.
07:32Most of them aren't proven
07:33and all of them
07:35are going to have to play
07:35their best consistently
07:37for us to have success.
07:39What was the one thing
07:40when you first got into the league?
07:42And it's hard for me
07:44to ask this question
07:44because I kind of know.
07:46Yeah.
07:46Like when you got into the league,
07:48it was the first thing
07:49you had to do
07:49was learn how to get off jam.
07:51Press coverage.
07:52They don't even have
07:53to do that anymore.
07:54No.
07:54So what do you think?
07:56Like that transition,
07:58what is the thing
07:59they're going to have
08:00to pick up on
08:01that will separate them
08:03or let you know
08:04these young guys
08:05are getting it?
08:07You know what?
08:08The funny thing about it
08:08is it's not even up to them.
08:10Honestly,
08:11it's up to the coaches.
08:13Those that are calling the plays,
08:14those that understand.
08:15You play to your players' strengths.
08:17When you have a team of receivers,
08:18let's say you have five receivers,
08:19you have five receivers,
08:20all of them aren't going to
08:21do the same things
08:23the same way.
08:24You have some that are good in press.
08:26You have some that are good in off.
08:28You have some that are good in slot.
08:29You have some that are good
08:30in short areas.
08:31Some are good in intermediate
08:32and some that are good
08:34in deep balls.
08:34So you have to understand
08:35what players are put
08:37in one position.
08:37All it is,
08:38every game is simply
08:39a chess match
08:40between coordinators.
08:41Putting your players
08:42in the right places
08:43and playing to their strengths.
08:45Now, sometimes
08:45players that have weaknesses,
08:47it's hard to hide
08:48their weak.
08:48It's hard to hide
08:49those weaknesses.
08:50That's where you get exposed.
08:52So when you have
08:53your Jamar Chases
08:54or your JSNs,
08:55your Justin Jeffersons,
08:56it makes your job easy
08:57because they can do
08:58any damn thing.
08:59The problem is
09:00when you don't have
09:00that kind of talent,
09:02that's where coaching
09:03comes into play.
09:04Right.
09:05Chad O'Josico joins us
09:06with DraftKings
09:07ahead of DraftKings
09:08game day this Wednesday
09:09for exclusive offers,
09:10free gas in select locations
09:11to kick off the football season.
09:14It's going to be helping out
09:15all the fans down here in Miami
09:16coming up on Wednesday,
09:17giving out some free gas.
09:18Canes are starting up
09:19on Friday, Ocho.
09:20Very excited about this season.
09:22They came so close
09:22to the natty last year.
09:23They bring in Mensa
09:24from Duke,
09:25but Malachi Tony,
09:27I was speaking of DraftKings,
09:28I was looking at,
09:29yeah, I was looking at,
09:30I was looking at Heisman bets.
09:31I was like,
09:32they're plus 4,000
09:33to win the Heisman.
09:34I mean, he can run touchdowns,
09:35he can throw touchdowns.
09:36I feel like if there was like,
09:38everybody knows
09:38there's a quarterback award,
09:39but if there was one kid,
09:40the way he burst
09:41on the scene last year,
09:42do you think there's any shot
09:44Malachi Tony could have
09:45Heisman hopes this year?
09:46Absolutely.
09:47I mean,
09:47if he were to do it,
09:48he would have to be the feature.
09:50Week in and week out.
09:51I don't care who we play in.
09:51He has to be the feature.
09:53They have to funnel
09:54the entire offense through him,
09:56and it's a possibility.
09:57Now, I'm not sure
09:58if that's the way
09:58Cristobal wants to do things,
10:00but they can,
10:01and they can move him around
10:03in so many different ways,
10:04and again,
10:05scheming him open,
10:06even though he's a player
10:06that has a skill set
10:07that doesn't need it,
10:08but that could possibly
10:10be the only way
10:11that he could possibly
10:12win the Heisman.
10:13He would have to take over
10:14every single game,
10:15whether you're playing
10:16a small team that's not ranked
10:17or whether you're playing
10:18one of the highest ranked teams
10:20that they will have
10:21on the schedule.
10:21I don't know the schedule
10:22I have it in front of me,
10:23but as long as he shows up
10:24week in and week out,
10:25there's a possibility.
10:28Well, a fantastic job
10:29this summer with Recruit
10:30for the Heat, Ocho.
10:31Appreciate the time, man.
10:32Anything else you want
10:33to let us know about Wednesday
10:33for the fans
10:34and what you got coming up?
10:35Listen, Wednesday,
10:36I mean, obviously Wednesday,
10:38we will announce,
10:38DraftKings,
10:39we will announce
10:40where the location will be,
10:41again, for you guys
10:42to come and get gas
10:44to start the new season,
10:47and that's pretty much it.
10:50Appreciate it, man.
10:51You're doing a great job
10:51with Nightcap.
10:52Thanks for giving us
10:52some time this morning.
10:53Appreciate you, Ocho.
10:54Thank you, guys.
10:55All right.
