00:00It's my fault.
00:02There isn't much from the Bills' cuts, or even from the entire preseason, that really seems like important.
00:14Other than health, which, you know, we don't know.
00:17Isn't that bad?
00:17Right, it's very good.
00:18In fact, there was Friday we mentioned this.
00:22There's an account out there, Sal and I talked about it, that is saying the Bills' injuries through the summer,
00:31the whole of training camp and the preseason games, 47% fewer injuries reported than last year at the same
00:41time frame.
00:42Based on what?
00:44Practices missed?
00:45Yeah, who left practice, who's not going to participate, that kind of thing.
00:49They had a much longer list.
00:52I don't know if the frequency was like the same guys multiple times over and over.
00:56Like, you know, he's out, oh, he's back, oh, he's out again, that kind of thing.
00:59Harrison Milano.
01:00Yeah, right.
01:01Last year.
01:02Right.
01:03Missed almost all of it.
01:04Right.
01:04But they had a pretty smooth ride, and yeah, there's nothing.
01:08I don't think anyone, I mean, maybe, I mean, if you care a lot about Nicole Hardman, he played his
01:16way off.
01:16I mean, if he catches a couple of more balls, he had drops, I think, in every game, or a
01:21drop in every game.
01:22And if that doesn't happen, maybe he's contending for a sixth wide receiver spot, or maybe even the fifth spot,
01:28I don't know.
01:29But he's never been good.
01:30But he's never been good, and, you know, they could have had him as a punt returner, like whatever.
01:33There's a way to the roster for him if he were more dependable, maybe.
01:37But other than that, yeah, no.
01:39I mean, you know, the guys that flashed are the guys that always flashed that end up getting cut.
01:44You know, Macklin had the big play against the Browns.
01:47Maybe he comes back on the practice squad.
01:49The running backs impress maybe both of them.
01:52Wheeler?
01:52Come back.
01:53Wheeler and Frank Gore Jr.
01:55They both, you know, everybody except Toriano Pride cleared waivers.
01:59So they can bring any of these people to 16 spots.
02:02So, I mean, they got a lot of room.
02:03Um, but, yeah, like, people that flashed didn't make it, but that's pretty typical.
02:10And nothing really bad happened.
02:11And the Bills didn't claim anyone?
02:14No, not as of yet.
02:15Which I, well, no, they didn't.
02:17That's over.
02:18The first round is complete.
02:19Right.
02:19And was posted.
02:20Right.
02:21They didn't do anything.
02:22They didn't do anything?
02:22No.
02:24Yeah, I mean, like you said, I think none of those guys ever really is going to mean anything.
02:29Probably.
02:30Probably, yeah.
02:31That happens every year.
02:33Um, the injury thing doesn't even mean anything to me either.
02:37Like, you had, unless somebody wants to school me on it, like, you had Hairston and Milano
02:42go out and miss the whole thing, and those were projected starters.
02:46And there might be some calculus here where, like, that mattered, and the Bills didn't lose
02:51anybody this, did they?
02:53Anybody at all?
02:54This preseason that was supposed to start?
02:56Like, no.
02:57Gardner-Johnson was good for a day.
02:58I mean, Gardner-Johnson, McGovern, Bishop.
03:01McGovern.
03:01Like, McGovern is maybe the biggest one.
03:04That's right.
03:04Shakir and Coleman ended, like, the run-up to the final preseason game, those guys weren't
03:09practicing.
03:11So, and, you know.
03:12That's right.
03:12That's right.
03:12And we're still, we're still more than a week away from an actual injury report where
03:18Joe Brady has to commit to, or the team has to commit to telling you, like, what the
03:22injuries are and what kind of time frame maybe we're working at.
03:25Or at least I'll have to say, like, their status for the game, the opener on the 13th.
03:31That's next Wednesday.
03:32But between now and then, we're still in the same situation we've been in all along, which
03:36is, like, we don't really know how seriously any of those guys are hurt.
03:39Has anything changed your feelings about their chances?
03:47Not even just from necessarily within the Bills, but just sort of the whole picture.
03:53Around the league and, yeah, yeah.
03:54Like, is anything, so Houston, I think Houston, tell me if you think of somebody better for
03:59this.
04:00Houston might be, Bills week one, the team in the AFC playoff picture that's had the most
04:08news that's bad.
04:09Like, they lost a starting receiver, Jaden Higgins, for the year to a knee injury in
04:15practice already in August.
04:18They went and got Kayshaun Boutte from New England.
04:22Booty.
04:23Now it's Booty.
04:23Change your name before it gets, you know, to be too late.
04:27I like that move for them.
04:29I think that's a useful player, I think.
04:32Fine.
04:32They kept two running backs and maybe three receivers.
04:38That's it.
04:39Like, Houston is set up to do more of that, and they have time.
04:44I mean, Booty was early enough where that made sense.
04:47It was widely predicted that they would do that, and they didn't really give up very
04:50much, and so that's week one, and they have David Montgomery and Woody Marks, period, at
04:56running back.
04:57Like, just two guys, which is maybe the only team in the league that stopped at two.
05:01I mean, rare if maybe somebody else did, but that's kind of interesting that they did.
05:06And at receiver, they are Nico Collins, who's, you know, better than any of our guys.
05:13Then you have Booty, who's okay.
05:17He'll start.
05:18Yeah, I think he's a good, he's a decent enough idea for a number two receiver to me.
05:22And Jalen Noel, who was a rookie last year that slides in because Higgins is hurt.
05:29Well, that's my booty's there.
05:29And what is Tank Dell's status?
05:31IR.
05:31Okay.
05:32He'll miss the first four games at least.
05:34He's not healthy.
05:35Right.
05:35So, no Tank Dell, no Higgins.
05:38Like, they're short.
05:40Now, I don't know if that's how anybody sees them beating the Bills, but it's not great.
05:46Yeah, I think if you see the Bills having a tough time in that game, it's more because they can't
05:52function on offense.
05:53You know, that's been the case the last two years.
05:56Even though they had a decent enough chance to win the game last year, despite that, they had a very
06:03tough time blocking that team up front.
06:05It's like, when I think about that game, it's not, oh, no, C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins are going
06:10to, you know, Collins is going to go for 12 and 180 and two scores.
06:15I don't think, I mean, it could happen, but I think if I can overcome their defense, I'm going to
06:20have a decent chance of winning that game.
06:22He got the Bills on a big one two years ago, and then he was hurt on the play.
06:26Yeah, I think so.
06:27And it was gone for five weeks after that touchdown.
06:30Is that right?
06:31Yes.
06:32Yes.
06:32I think that is exactly right.
06:34Do you think, as we get closer to week one, the line hasn't moved at all, like, the entire summer?
06:40One and a half?
06:41One and a half.
06:42Does that sound right?
06:43Would you play the Bills at minus one and a half in Houston?
06:47I don't love it.
06:49I, you know, me with lines, like, I sort of want to, no pun intended, read between the lines, and
06:55the fact that they're favored there, having lost there as often as they have, and, you know, new coach, whatever
07:02else.
07:03Defense and transition.
07:05Like, that's a Josh Allen respect.
07:07I think that's what that is.
07:09One and a half.
07:10It's never moved.
07:12I don't think, I don't think I would bet the Texans because of that.
07:17Like, you're at home.
07:18You've kind of dominated this rivalry.
07:21I mean, they've been a playoff team three years in a row.
07:26I feel like that's a game that I would, if we were, well, we will eventually, the Friday before the
07:31openers, we'll be, you know, setting up to do picks.
07:34Can't wait.
07:34That nobody cares about and remains unsponsored.
07:38I don't think I would even, it's just like, I'll leave that game over there.
07:42What time is picks now?
07:44Oh, that's right.
07:45By the time we get to that.
07:47Next Friday.
07:47Where our schedule is changing.
07:50I don't know.
07:50We're going to have to figure that out.
07:525.30?
07:53I don't know.
07:54I don't know what we're doing with that.
07:555?
07:55You can't do it at 5.
07:585.30.
07:58I don't think.
07:59I think it's 5.30.
08:00Yeah, or like 5.40, you know, break early and whatever.
08:04It's got to be at the tail end.
08:08And we each have one in the bank already.
08:10Yeah, I've got the Bears.
08:12Yours is way better looking than mine.
08:13Your buddy is going to start for Atlanta.
08:17Panics, Junior?
08:17I think so.
08:18Okay, good.
08:18It sounds like it.
08:19You have the Bears, minus two and a half at Carolina.
08:23That's still the number.
08:24I have Atlanta, plus two and a half at Pittsburgh.
08:27Now it's three.
08:28Oh, I was early on that.
08:30Sam would not be pleased.
08:31Tough.
08:32But it sounds like Panics, if he's healthy.
08:34He might not even be healthy.
08:36Tua seems to have lost that job against Air.
08:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:41I kind of feel like maybe you could have seen that coming.
08:45I never thought it made sense.
08:47If Panics is healthy, for them to pivot to Tua.
08:50When you were talking that way a month ago or so, I just thought,
08:54I don't know, that just seems nuts to me.
08:56I mean, Panics, there still is an investment there,
08:58and he hasn't, he should not be out of runway yet.
09:02Like, he's been hurt more than he's been bad.
09:04I think he has been good.
09:06Like, it's not like you're like, oh, wait, wait until he's back.
09:09But I think you still want to give that some room.
09:12I mean, it was a first-round pick two years ago.
09:13New coach and Tua signing was one where I think we all kind of went,
09:18well, why else do it?
09:20Are you signing him as a veteran backup?
09:22Maybe.
09:23Because he's a lefty.
09:24It never sounded like that.
09:25Don't match your left-handed starter.
09:26It never sounded like that, but maybe he's just been that bad
09:30that they're not going to do that.
09:31I mean, nothing official from Atlanta.
09:33Right.
09:34No.
09:35Not on the Bills' schedule anyway.
09:37Okay.
09:38We'll talk about some of the odds going forward here.
09:42Aaron Donald signing with the Rams,
09:44and what did that do to the Bills' place in the Super Bowl picture?
09:49Sal Capaccio at four.
09:51Mike Schopen, the Bulldog here.
09:52Lines are open for your calls at 803-0550.
09:55Most important, most interesting takeaway from the preseason
09:59or the whole training camp preseason experience for you, perhaps,
10:03and we'll do what we've done a lot in weeks and months,
10:08which is try to kind of size up their chances and the AFC East,
10:13the AFC overall, the NFL.
10:15Lines open for your calls.
10:16We'll look for what you have to say next.
10:18This is W.
