00:00Daily devotional, Sunday, August 23rd. When you feel like you're slipping, God's mercy will hold
00:09you up. His comfort will fill your soul. Today's scripture, if I say my foot slips, your mercy,
00:19O Lord, will hold me up. In the multitude of my anxieties within me, your comforts delight my soul.
00:27Psalm 94, 18 through 19. There are moments in life when we feel steady, confident, and strong.
00:38Then there are moments when it feels like the ground beneath us is beginning to give way. Maybe
00:46you're carrying a burden you don't know how to handle. Maybe you're worried about tomorrow. Maybe
00:53something you thought would work out has suddenly changed. Or perhaps your mind is simply overwhelmed
01:01with so many thoughts that you can't seem to find peace. Psalm 94 reminds us what to do in those
01:11moments. The psalmist doesn't pretend that he never struggles. He admits, my foot slips.
01:18That's an honest picture of what walking through difficult seasons can feel like. Sometimes our
01:25faith feels strong. Other times fear begins creeping in. We become discouraged. We question what will
01:35happen next. We may even wonder how much more we can handle. But notice what happens when the psalmist
01:43begins to slip. Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. His confidence isn't in his ability to hold onto
01:53God
01:53perfectly. His hope is in the mercy of God that holds him. When your strength begins failing, God's mercy
02:02hasn't failed. When your confidence becomes shaky, God's faithfulness hasn't changed. When you don't know what
02:11tomorrow holds, God is already there. God meets us in our anxiety. Verse 19 becomes even more personal.
02:20In the multitude of my anxieties within me, your comforts delight my soul. The Bible doesn't ignore
02:30anxiety or pretend that God's people never experience overwhelming thoughts. The psalmist describes a
02:37multitude of anxieties. Not one worry. Many worries. Perhaps you understand exactly what that feels like.
02:46One concern leads to another. Your mind begins imagining possibilities, replaying conversations,
02:55worrying about circumstances, and trying to solve problems that haven't even happened yet.
03:02But the psalmist discovered something greater than the multitude of his worries. The comfort of God.
03:10God may not immediately remove every circumstance causing you concern,
03:14but he can meet you right in the middle of it. Through his word, his promises, prayer, and the assurance
03:22of
03:22his presence, God reminds us that we aren't facing our circumstances alone. Jesus is our greatest assurance.
03:32Ultimately, our confidence in God's mercy points us toward Jesus.
03:38At the cross, God demonstrated the depth of his love for us. Jesus gave his life for our sins and
03:45rose again,
03:46so that everyone who places their faith in him can receive forgiveness and eternal life.
03:53When circumstances tempt you to wonder whether God cares, remember what he has already done through
04:00Christ. The cross reminds us that God's love isn't determined by how easy today feels. His love has
04:09already been demonstrated. And because of Jesus, we can approach God with our fears, worries, failures,
04:17and burdens, knowing that he hears us. Today's encouragement. If you feel like you're slipping today,
04:24don't spend all your energy trying to convince yourself that you're strong enough. Turn to the
04:31one who is strong enough to hold you. Tell God what's frightening you. Tell him what's keeping your mind
04:38restless. Tell him what you don't understand. You don't have to hide your anxiety from God. Bring it into
04:47his presence. When your thoughts multiply, return to his promises. When fear tells you that everything is
04:56falling apart, remember that God's mercy is still holding you. When you cannot see what happens next, trust
05:06the one who already knows. You may feel like you're losing your footing, but you haven't slipped beyond the
05:13reach of God's mercy. Heavenly Father, thank you for your mercy that holds me when I feel like I'm slipping.
05:21You know every worry, fear, and anxious thought within me. When my mind becomes overwhelmed with things I
05:29cannot control, help me turn my attention back to you. Remind me of your faithfulness and fill my heart
05:38with the comfort of your presence. Give me wisdom for the things I can do and faith to surrender the
05:46things that are beyond my control. When I feel weak, hold me steady. When fear becomes loud, help me hear
05:55your promises more clearly. Above all, thank you for Jesus and for the hope, forgiveness, and eternal life
06:02I have through him. Today, I place my burdens into your hands and trust your mercy to carry me through.
06:12In Jesus' name, amen. What worry or fear is making you feel like you're losing your footing today, and how
06:21can
06:21you intentionally place it in God's hands and trust his mercy to hold you steady? Today's truth, you may feel
06:30like you're slipping under the weight of fear, worry, or uncertainty, but God's mercy is holding you
06:39steady. His comfort is near, and his faithfulness will not fail you. Leave an amen if you're trusting God to
06:48hold you steady today. Share this devotional with someone who needs God's comfort and encouragement, and
