Transcript
00:11karshan anderson coming up in a sec we'll get to the uh the jaylen duran uh report uh from an
00:16nba insider and nobody else is jumping on this so i'm not quite sure what to make of it um
00:22but
00:22we'll play it for you and get your two cents also people uh we'll talk to the people about bark
00:28in
00:28the park if it's if you're if you're not a dog owner and you walk in and realize it's bark
00:32in the
00:32park which it was last night with dogs everywhere do you is it awesome is it no different or is
00:39it
00:39oh my god what a terrible night to be here i think it's going to depend on if you like
00:45dogs if you have
00:46a dog you're going to love it and you're going to feel jealous that you didn't bring yours if you
00:50like dogs you're probably going to love it oh look at the doggy over there yep but if you don't
00:55like
00:55dogs or you don't have one then it might be a nuisance 248-539-9797 all right uh i want
01:01to play
01:02this this is from uh who's a reporter jake fisher jake fisher from the stein line with mark stein
01:11noted nba analyst and insider and he put this out there yesterday regarding where things stand right
01:20now with the pistons and restricted free agent jaylen duran
01:25and he put this out there
01:31thank you for stopping by ladies
01:35oh thank you
01:36yeah
01:40yeah
01:40yeah
01:45yeah
01:45yeah
01:46yeah
01:50yeah
01:51yeah
01:51yeah
01:51yeah
01:52yeah
01:52yeah
01:52yeah
01:54yeah
02:03okay
02:06nobody else is reporting this let me be clear on this jake fisher and mark stein
02:11are pretty good nba insiders
02:16i i'm a little shocked
02:18that it's for that if this is true four and forty
02:23i could see it being four and forty
02:28total if he hits all his incentives
02:32i would i could see there being incentives
02:35which would make sense
02:37but i don't know
02:38why you would take a hard line and have it go this far
02:41for either side
02:44if it were going to be four and forty
02:46well if you're jaylen duran's side i think you're doing
02:50cartwheels
02:50if that's the case
02:51i would agree
02:51even though
02:52i think they'd jump at that
02:53it's still a far cry from what the max offer could be
02:56but they know they're not going to get the max
02:58but if
02:59let's say that
03:00i mean what is the max
03:0152 or something like that
03:02for a player like duran at this point
03:05i thought it was 56
03:06but whatever yeah
03:07whatever it was
03:08it was north of 50 right
03:09so if it's
03:10if it's 55 or whatever it is
03:11and the pistons were offering 35
03:15if
03:15if they settle on 40 i guess that's not
03:17too surprising
03:19you know because it's still far less than the max
03:21and it's a
03:22it's a negotiation
03:23it's a little bit more with perhaps what's been reported
03:25that the pistons have offered
03:26or
03:26or what they think the pistons have offered
03:29um
03:30but i'd still be
03:31i i guess i i would raise an eyebrow
03:33you know when he brought this to my attention last night
03:35i was a little surprised
03:36like really
03:36yeah
03:37um
03:3840 a year for duran
03:39i mean
03:39i know some people are going to be upset by that
03:42if this ends up being true
03:43right
03:44because they don't think he's worth the money and all that
03:46i still go back and say
03:48he's 22
03:50and
03:52i'm going to
03:53bet on the side of
03:55you're not defined as a 22 year old
03:58you haven't peaked as a 22 year old
04:00when it comes to your athletic prowess
04:01in the national basketball association
04:03now i know that there are some players that
04:06that did
04:06or they just didn't
04:07they
04:08well i mean the definition of peak is you just don't get any better
04:10i know there have been some players in the past that
04:12haven't gotten any better
04:13but i would guess
04:15that the
04:16vast majority
04:18of
04:19nba players
04:21improved after the age of 22
04:23so i'm going to bank on that
04:24rather than look at
04:26deandre ayton
04:28as an example
04:29and say
04:29well that's
04:29that's the guy
04:30that i'm going to hold up
04:31and say
04:32well he's just that
04:32i don't
04:33i think
04:34durin still has a high side
04:35kang what do you make of this from jake fisher
04:38uh
04:38i actually
04:39i know it's just basically an opinion of someone he trusts
04:42but i actually think that
04:43that opinion is probably going to be
04:45end up being pretty accurate
04:46i think that
04:48things started off rocky
04:49because that's how
04:50how negotiations go sometimes
04:52he was eligible for a huge max
04:53which the business were never going to offer
04:55and now the question was after that was
04:56what is he really valued at
04:58if he hits the open market
04:59and what would teams would offer him the restricted max
05:01i don't think anyone
05:02that we know of
05:03offered him the restricted max
05:06so
05:07the pistons know
05:08kind of where his value is
05:09and they probably want to be lower than that
05:10but at some point
05:11you do have to play the game
05:12and keep the player happy
05:13and i think that
05:14finding the middle ground
05:16is
05:16ending up going to be around
05:1740 million a year
05:18and if you would have told me
05:19before this whole thing started
05:21that jaylen durin was going to sign for about
05:2338 40
05:24i probably would have took it
05:25and i've been incredibly happy
05:26but i do want the player back
05:28and you do have to
05:29in this day and age
05:30you do have to
05:31quote unquote
05:31overpay to keep some of your guys
05:33you know
05:33and in the long run
05:35we all know
05:35it might not work out
05:36but i do agree with you gator
05:37he is so incredibly young
05:38it's not like
05:39it's the end of his career
05:40and we know the back half
05:41is going to be regrettable
05:42that's not necessarily true here
05:44because he could be
05:45playing well enough again
05:46where he is getting
05:47a huge second contract
05:49so i think in the end though doug
05:52after all this is said and done
05:53because it's been a rocky road
05:54to get here right
05:55i think this is probably
05:56where they end up
05:57around close to 40 million per year
05:59to keep durin happy
06:00and and the pistons
06:02they don't max him out
06:03and so and then they can go pay a SAR
06:05and maybe get a free agent
06:07or make a big trade
06:08and take on some more salary
06:09i i'm a little torn
06:11and mostly lean towards
06:13i'd be disappointed in the pistons
06:15because i think that's a bit high
06:17um
06:18regular season jaylen durin
06:20it's a bit low
06:20playoff balein durin
06:21it's a lot high
06:22do i think he can get better
06:24yes
06:24and i suppose
06:26over the course of a contract
06:28five six million a year
06:30doesn't make or break
06:31but it would make me wonder
06:33well what was all the headache
06:34and the acrimony for
06:35well the other
06:36just trying to get the best deal
06:37you can i guess
06:38but the other thing to keep in mind
06:39is that the nba
06:40does not have a hard salary
06:41no they don't
06:42so if you're going to sign
06:44your own free agents
06:45you can go above that cap
06:46and um
06:47you'll pay a luxury tax
06:48and it seems like tom gores
06:50isn't opposed to doing that
06:51for the right players
06:53and we'll see what ends up
06:54happening with jaylen durin
06:55but hopefully it happens soon
06:57because i don't want this situation
06:59to continue to linger
07:01like the dylan larkin situation is
07:03and the dylan larkin thing
07:04could get ugly
07:04you know from the fan standpoint
07:06sure
07:06248-539-9797
07:08all right let's get to your phone calls
07:10you want to keep talking pistons
07:11we got people
07:12that want to get in on the
07:13bark of the park thing
07:14if you're not a dog owner
07:15and you walk in
07:16it's bark of the park night
07:17like it was last night
07:18is it awesome
07:18is it no different
07:20or is it
07:20oh god
07:22let's go to jordan
07:24in detroit
07:24hi jordan
07:25hey fellas
07:26how y'all doing today man
07:28what's up
07:29it's good
07:30man listen
07:30it's uh
07:31oh i don't have a pet
07:32but i have my daughter
07:33man my daughter
07:34loves the tiger gang
07:35so we go often
07:36but she does not
07:37like dogs at all
07:38so it would have been
07:40an oh god
07:41what did i do
07:42because she's
07:43not only that
07:44she's the type of young lady
07:46she's only 11
07:47so automatically
07:48she's going to think
07:49that i was pranking her
07:50on purpose
07:50just to give her
07:51opportunity to be scared
07:52but no
07:53it would have been
07:54a little bit different
07:55now like you spoke earlier
07:56said if they're in a
07:57certain section
07:58i might get her
08:00from stopping
08:00stopping her
08:01from jumping off the ledge
08:02but if they're going
08:03to be everywhere
08:04throughout everywhere
08:05she's going to have
08:06a freak out
08:06the good news is
08:08they're not
08:08they are confined
08:09to the section
08:10in the upper deck
08:11and right field
08:12on the first base
08:13side there
08:14that's where they're at
08:15and i would imagine
08:16if you were in the
08:17section next to it
08:18and you weren't happy
08:19about being next to them
08:20you could talk to an usher
08:22and they would be
08:22more than happy
08:23to move you
08:23into another section
08:24that would have been great
08:25because like i said
08:26i would have had no problem
08:27you know me
08:28as an adult
08:28you know it's an animal
08:29it's a pet
08:30but for some odd reason
08:32i don't know man
08:32i never had a
08:33i never
08:34well i didn't have any
08:35dogs while i had my
08:36children before i had
08:37children and i was
08:38a single man
08:38yes
08:38i had my dogs
08:39i had my animals
08:40i had my pets
08:41but now she's never
08:42been familiar with it
08:43so just to be able
08:44to go on bark night
08:45oh she would have
08:46lost it
08:46she would have just
08:47i mean not to say
08:48she would have just
08:48went frantic
08:49and just went running
08:50around screaming
08:50and hollering crying
08:51it just would have
08:52been the fact that
08:53oh god dad
08:53you just knew
08:54did you know
08:55there were some
08:55animals here
08:56you know there
08:56would have been
08:56a thousand and
08:57one questions
08:57but she would have
08:58loved the game
08:59you know maybe i could
09:00have got her a good
09:01slurpee
09:01and a nice little
09:02some peanuts
09:03and everything like that
09:04she probably would have
09:05been fine for a little
09:06while but
09:06we would have been stuck
09:07in an area where
09:08they're just barking
09:09and breathing over in
09:10the area where we
09:11were sitting at
09:11oh yes
09:13barking and breathing
09:14barking and breathing
09:15is a hysterical term
09:16jordan thank you
09:17for the phone call
09:17ryan's in lansing
09:19and next on 97.1
09:20hello ryan
09:21hello ryan
09:21it was
09:23i was
09:24first of all
09:25i think it's kind
09:25of poetic
09:26that um
09:27last night
09:28that was the first
09:29game in a while
09:29that i didn't watch
09:30and i'm not a dog
09:32guy
09:32so it's kind of
09:33poetic that
09:34it was a bark
09:34in the park night
09:35but um
09:37my whole experience
09:38with dogs
09:39i used to work
09:40at a retail chain
09:41that lets you
09:42take in dogs
09:43if it's on a leash
09:44and the dog people
09:45they were the worst
09:46customers man
09:47so i don't know
09:49it would just
09:49it would just give me
09:50too much flashbacks
09:51too much trauma
09:52from that experience
09:52all of the dog poop
09:54i had to clean up
09:54all the
09:55the dog urine
09:56i had to clean up
09:57the barking
09:58people coming in
09:59with no leash
10:00like
10:01it would give me
10:02way too much
10:03of a flashback
10:03to that
10:04but um
10:05i mean yeah
10:06if they're in
10:06their own section
10:07that's fine
10:07but
10:09that was my
10:09whole experience
10:10with that
10:10the dog customers
10:12they were the worst
10:12ones
10:13when you say that
10:14that they were
10:14the worst customers
10:15did you already
10:16list all the reasons
10:17why they were
10:18the worst customers
10:18or was there
10:19anything else
10:22um
10:22the other thing
10:23was just
10:24they uh
10:24a lot of times
10:25people their dog
10:26would you know
10:27do its business
10:28in like a random
10:29aisle somewhere
10:30and they just
10:30wouldn't tell you
10:31about it
10:31so you'd be
10:33going on stock
10:33in shelves
10:34and there's
10:35just a turd
10:35in the middle
10:36of the aisle
10:36that you come
10:37across
10:38i don't understand
10:40i don't understand
10:41people you know
10:41i mean as a dog
10:42owner there's
10:44responsibility with
10:45that and
10:45and as a person
10:47who absolutely
10:47loves dogs
10:48and loves animals
10:49i don't know
10:50why people feel
10:51the need to bring
10:51them with them
10:52everywhere they go
10:53oh i'm going
10:54shopping to target
10:55i'm gonna bring
10:56the dog
10:56no
10:57i'm going to
10:58home deep
10:58i'm gonna bring
10:59the dog
10:59don't
11:00like the only
11:01place i think
11:01you should be
11:02bringing your
11:03dog is maybe
11:04the pet store
11:05where you're
11:06gonna go get
11:07dog food or
11:07whatever
11:07and hey
11:08you want to
11:08because they
11:09they welcome
11:10that they
11:10encourage that
11:11if you go to
11:11like premier
11:12pets or
11:12something like
11:12that but
11:13otherwise i
11:14don't i
11:14don't get
11:15it
11:15for the non
11:16dog owner
11:17when you show
11:17up at bark
11:18in the park
11:19night didn't
11:19realize it
11:20is it awesome
11:21is it no
11:22different or
11:23is it oh
11:23god no
11:24248-539-9797
11:26also got that
11:27jalen duran
11:28soundbite how
11:29would you feel
11:29about a four
11:29year 160
11:30million dollar
11:31contract that
11:32jake fisher
11:33from the mark
11:34stein podcast
11:35the stein line
11:36said that's what
11:38he's still hearing
11:38will go down
