00:41tickets for the preseason the preseason opener so my wife and one of my sons went then we got four
00:46tickets for the second the peasant practice right and i took all three of my sons so now we've all
00:50my whole family has been in the building nice and uh the rest of the season is going to be
00:54on
00:54television so i'm okay with that i thought it was great i loved it there but i you do want
00:59to get
00:59in there and check it out i gotta get in there you want to know what people are talking about

01:02they're calling the shows yeah right i i've not had the experience yet i i just i will be interested

01:08like just the the building like the architecture of the building i just build houses so it's kind of
01:13an interesting thing to me um and i just you know it's the bill's new stadium i gotta i gotta

01:37season regular season september 13th and we're getting set for it by checking in with bill's head
01:43coach joe brady who spoke today before practice um and we've been working our way through it since
01:48three o'clock um and i don't feel bad about that because it's like we just have him on the
01:53show the
01:53whole time yeah we're pausing it we're taking your phone calls at 803-0550 and just kind of kicking
01:58around some bill's thoughts as we're getting closer to the regular season so let's return to that we do

02:16the nfl obviously you've been around it before yeah whatever this position what has it been like
02:21for you yeah it's um it's no it's it's not it's not easy at all it's honestly it's harder now

02:27the head coach because before it was really hard on me for the the 40 guys i was coaching now

02:32and um i i don't take what i do lightly and with the work that these guys do for me

02:38that's why i you know i've always struggled you know you guys have heard when i when people say
02:43it's just a preseason game or especially preseason three when it's like oh it's preseason three it's
02:48like no no this is these guys like lives and some of these guys might not ever play football again

02:52so um that's my job is to give them everything that they got you know going in there and so
02:56that's
02:57part of the reason why we're doing some of these joggers for some of those guys is so that they
03:01can
03:01whether it's for the buffalo bills or for not they're going to get to put their best performance
03:05out on the football field on thursday and so you're trying to balance the hey get the buffalo
03:09bills continuing where they need to go with some of the guys that haven't got a lot of the reps
03:12and then also getting these guys fresh to go and no it's not it's not fun conversations as part of
03:17it comes with the job but um you know i owe it to those guys to um give everything i
03:23got to let
03:24them go out and compete and be at their best on thursday
03:38yeah i mean you know obviously you never want injuries but um there there's a body of work
03:43um none of these injuries have are you know uh from a timetable that uh it's going to be out
03:49for
03:49you know where it's going to impact roster decisions and um you know you try to take
03:54into consideration the body of work and not just kind of hey where things are right now and
03:58um excuse me but uh i i've i feel really good about our offensive line and the depth that we
04:03have and the versatility of the guys being able to play inside and outside guys that can play guard
04:06and center um you know again you always want your starters to roll but there's there's a confidence
04:11level of knowing that you guys yeah guys in the back end that can you're not going to blink if
04:15they have to go in where's cj and are you concerned at all that he and cole haven't had as
04:21much
04:21probably timing the field together as you would want getting into the season yeah i don't know if
04:27concern is the right word but like yeah i mean the reality is you want you know you're in a
04:32new
04:32defense and you know you got you know cb you know you haven't between maxwell cole and you know cj
04:39you
04:39know you haven't had some of your starters in there on a consistent basis and um but they've played a
04:44lot
04:44that you know like cj's played a lot of football and um it's like all right well we can't control
04:48you
04:49know them being out on the football field right now with some of the injuries but how do we
04:52manufacture um and it's really just the communication right we know they all can play
04:56the techniques and whatnot it's like hey what are they all on the same page speaking both verbally
05:00and non-verbally or for you know we're going to play on the road and then we're going to play
05:04thursday night at home and it's going to be loud and do they have the body the body language to
05:07speak
05:08to each other and be able to understand what that means and so that's why we do all these
05:11doctors at the end of practices that's why we have the intentionality is for these guys to go in
05:16there and to be able to hear them kind of talking and doing some of those things you know they're
05:19they've been really intentional about doing extra on their own yeah it's not live you know there is
05:24something about being able to go out there and i don't want to say it's a concern but obviously you
05:28wish you know you had all those guys out there but um you know i'm sure you guys have probably
05:33heard
05:34from cj once or twice and he'll be ready to go that secondary stuff i think is going to be
05:40very
05:40interesting to watch as they get closer to the season and even thursday to me and we'll get into
05:46that with carl jones because that's his that's right up his alley he's a db he's a db played at
05:50syracuse um and he's awesome at talking about the position and all the little stuff i've never spoken
05:56to him i just like him on tv he seems cool he's great he's great i'm i can't wait i'm
06:00gonna ask him
06:00about the non-verbal communication stuff because i think that's going to be fascinating and i am i am
06:08once again i was this way last year at the at the end of training camp with i think it

06:13bishop missed time last year too right yep he has to play the tampa game to build up the calluses

06:18and i i remember being very worried about is he gonna know what he needs to know is he gonna

06:25comfortable with what he needs to be comfortable with and the one thing that gave me a lot of solace

06:31that was that sean mcdermott was the head coach and that sean mcdermott was the the db whisperer he
06:38was mr safety and mr cornerback like he made those guys great and he got them to understand what he
06:44wants to do and i think that's going to be a another sort of revealing moment out of okay how

06:53does jim leonard really have the chops that everybody's saying he does because he played safety
06:59we all know that like he he was great and he was very exciting and and that is his number
07:05one i
07:05think trait that we all talk about is like well he's very good at you know explaining how the game
07:10works and what he wants from his scheme and all that and to me being faced immediately with the
07:16challenge of all right your starting safeties are both going to miss time at different times
07:21through camp your second year first round corner is also going to be out for a good chunk of time
07:27and he was out last year for a good chunk of time and you got to catch all these guys

07:32let's see it and check out the schedule not going to be any you know sort of warming up to

08:43scary but i was running well it's a non-contact it was a scary looking non-contact thing
08:50but then i feel they didn't cart him off he got up i think i don't remember now i know

09:45for a while man like we're trying nobody's in traction right nobody's been hospitalized we're
09:51we're good here yeah um let's all pump the brakes you know what i expect every single one of these
09:55guys that that ridiculous list of players that zach has been reading during the updates but i expect
10:01every single one of them to be a hundred percent ready to go on the 13th when uh when the
10:06bills take
10:06on the texans no probably not but i think most of this will be resolved it's it's august it's it's

10:50what we want what are your so through two preseason games what is your general impression of this team
10:55i'll give you mine real quick and then yeah then it's your turn just the first two drives of the
11:01carolina game i watched receivers running wide open unlike anything i've seen in recent memory
11:08with the bills unlike anything i've seen since digs and davis worked together um and i don't know if
11:14that's brady unlocking things if that's uh development and josh if that's brady changing
11:19his approach because he doesn't have to answer to mcdermott anymore um or if they have improved
11:25the receiving core that much i mean dj moore is a tremendous addition and we saw that on the what
11:30second play of the carolina game where he's just standing alone underneath and then goes for 32 yards and
11:36um it it just the vibe looks right on offense the defense
11:42it looks different and there are so many moving parts and especially with the defensive backs as
11:47he's talking about everybody's hurt people are in and out of the lineup this isn't the real team yet
11:51but from a schematic standpoint even though they're pretty vanilla right now it still looks to be a more
11:58aggressive group and a more aggressive approach so i mean i couldn't feel better i know it's just two
12:02preseason games and that caveat exists in everything that we're saying right now but um i'm i'm very
12:08pleased with everything that has happened so far yeah i i think it'd be hard not to be but i
12:14am
12:15i am very heavily in the camp of like it's the preseason i i i don't really care that much
12:23about
12:24anything i've seen no new problems have popped up i guess that's great and that's good there's been
12:29nothing that i've seen that necessarily is oh i'm a little worried about that maybe i take that back
12:37i i have not seen any real quarterback pressure in in a significant way aside from a couple of good
12:44plays from deon walker um and i remember landon jackson got a nice tackle for a loss in the second
12:49game but it's very pedestrian from the line so far and i think if there was one thing we would
12:56ask
12:57that improves this season it's that on the defensive side of the ball and i would have
13:03even if it's just okay there's greg russo beat a guy there's a guy they got to a quarterback awesome
13:09i just haven't seen really any of that change to throw forced him off his spot doesn't even have
13:14to be a sack yep it's felt very comfortable for all the quarterbacks they're playing for the most
13:18part even though you know deshaun watson stunk it up i think it's been a little easy back there
13:23um so if i had to pick some if i did nitpick something that's probably it if you're trying
13:27to find an uh-oh there it is right and i don't really take any whoo-hoos out of this
